Runner on third, less than one out

Is my job to hit the ball as hard as physically possible?

Or is it to look for a pitch that I can drive to the OF?

Runner on second, nobody out

Or should I be looking to drive the ball to the right side?

Two strikes

Should my approach be to hit the ball as hard as physically possible

Or to try and barrel up the baseball?

They are not mutually exclusive

True, shorten up and make contact and barrel the ball hard... :P

So clearly the players, coaches, Atkins and even Shapiro himself read this thread and it was just the jolt they needed to get their s*** together. Good job you guys.

Good post CD. This team looks like a bunch of one dimensional hackers right now aside from a few.

I don't agree at all.

Bo literally changes his stance with two strikes.

Vlad always adapts and is very good at just putting the ball in play when he needs to.

Tapia is a slap hit contact loser.

Kirk has a great approach all the time.

The others, sure they always try to hit dongs but even that is working for Springer and Jansen.

Gurriel and Chapman and Teoscar are lost. But Chapman, it's more of a swing path and launch angle problem...

Easy champ, lol.

Well it’s something to think about. Am I wrong?

If there was zero merit, why did Springer feel the need to comment, after a losing streak/hitting slump. It was the 2022 JD moment when he said this isn’t the try league.

Springer is not the issue, agree there.

MLB ranks:

K% - 14th (as in, 14th lowest)

BB% - 19th (as in, 19th lowest)

BABIP - 26th

Hard hit% - 5th

Oppo% - 10th

GB% - 11th

If the team was truly a bunch of "one dimensional hackers" who should be trying to "go the other way or up the middle instead of trying to pull the ball" more then the numbers would NOT look like this.

Seriously, do you f***ing dorks even look at Fangraphs before you type this stuff?

In fact, you could argue that the PROBLEM is that guys like Bo and Vladdy are NOT TRYING TO PULL THE f***ING BASEBALL ENOUGH

WHERE IS CITO GASTON

STOP TRYING TO BE PERFECT HITTERS WHO CAN AIM BALLS THE OTHER WAY INTO THE GAPS AND HIT .330!!!!!

JUST PULL THE BALL FOR HOME RUNS

YOU HAVE MASSIVE POWER AND MASSIVE BAT SPEED

LOOK AT WHAT DANNY JANSEN IS DOING

WHO ARE THE TWO BEST REGULAR HITTERS ON THE TEAM? GEORGE AND DANNY

WHO HAS THE HIGHEST PULL% OF REGULARS ON THE TEAM? GEORGE AND MOTHER f***ING DANNY

I SWEAR TO f***ING GOD I AM GOING TO SNAP AND BAN ALL OF YOU

DEAR MATT CHAPMAN - GET THE f*** OUT IN FRONT AND PULL YOUR FLY BALLS. STOP HITTING THEM TO CENTREFIELD YOU f***ING MORON

DEAR VLADIMIR GUERRERO JR, AND TEOSCAR HERNANDEZ, AND BO BICHETTE - START ELEVATING THE BALL MORE YOU f***ING IDIOTS

Blue Jays were 30th in RISP… We all agree they will get better and are better. But to gloss over their struggles by showing numbers in an aggregate is being obtuse.

Did Laika get the wrong drive through order at Tim Hortons this morning?

I think they used coconut milk instead of almond in his Café au Lait at Starbucks

It's like he never watched the 93 Blue Jays, who won because 3 guys hit .330... or the 2018 Red Sox... or the 2022 Red Sox... all winning (2022 on their way) because their top 3 guys hit .330.

I do admit there are lots of ways to win... having guys hit .230 with a .290 on base will work too if they pull a lot of homers and Gaussman and Manaoh put up 16 WAR together.

Just glanced at Martinez, Devers, Boegartz fangraphs pages and they don't seem to be 'pull-dat-ball' to any special level. In fact they are pulling it less than Guerrero/Springer/Bo.

I'm not glossing over their struggles at all.

I am just illustrating in really a rather irrefutable way (IMO) that your premise for how to fix them is flawed. Like, woefully flawed. Let's recap:

- Teoscar, Bo, and Vlad are already doing what you want them to do to a fault and they would probably be significantly better hitters if they instead tried to pull the ball more often.

- Jansen and Springer are already doing what you DON'T WANT THE TEAM TO DO and they are having great results

- Even Espinal is having great results by making a process change that is the precise opposite of what you are preaching; he is intentionally trying to hit the ball harder to the pull side and it's working

- Kirk is already an all fields hitter

- Matt Chapman is probably physically incapable of transforming into the player you want him to be because of his uppercut swing. I think the shortest path to success for him is just to get in front a bit more so he has less FBs to CF and more to LF.

A lot of the RISP numbers are just noise, luck, and nerves from younger players. Like, they have a .204 BABIP with RISP, a big chunk of that is just bad luck.

They need to be better with RISP but most of what needs changing is just between the ears. Trying to ham-fist approach changes onto previously successful hitters is how you break a team. They need to relax. If by "stop trying to hit home runs" for you means "calm down" then sure they need to calm down but this is a team of sluggers and they should absolutely be trying to send baseballs into orbit please and thanks.

Man, if the bats are starting to come around then this team could be poised to go on a serious run here.

The starting pitching has been fantastic, if they start getting run support the W's will start piling up.

For good this time I hope.

What a useless complainer. Good riddance.

Not sure. Last I saw he was pointing out the Buxton was only hitting .200. Then boom. Gone off the face of the earth. lol.

Who is better Buxton of Matt Chapman? Buxton I guess because he is closer to .200. Screw the advanced stats.

Buxton pull % - 57%

Laika advocating for a 'pull-dat-ball' team that ends up 2nd in homers but 7th or something in runs is interesting.

With good pitching it would work. Would have worked in 2010 if they kept Roy.
