So you play the shift against Pache but you pitch him away. Got it..

Would this be Kirk's call?

Jays aren't likely to eat the rest of his salary...

Probably not. Would hate for this guy to be a guaranteed loss almost every outing and miss the playoffs by a game or two. At some point, if he continues to be a liability, they need to remove him from the equation. Yes... It's only been 2 starts this season. But the signs have been there for much longer.

I think he gets til May at least. But yeah can’t keep running him out there if he can’t get past 4 innings without giving up 5

I think Vladdy is asking to hit 3rd. They tried him a bit at the 2-hole in spring.

Still, pretty easy decision to have Chapman or Gurriel hitting 1st today if that is the case.

Yes. Vladdy has told the team he prefers hitting third.

But then again so did Bautista and yet Gibby still had him hit second when it made sense to do so.

Vladdy prob wouldnt fight it or anything

Given the absolute garbage quality umpiring we've been subjected to this season I didn't think it would be possible for an umpire to make the rest of the dipshits calling balls and strikes in Jays game to seem competent by comparison. I honestly can't recall a single game impacted to the same degree as today's game was. Jays pitchers were consistently squeezed on pitches well within the strike zone and A's pitchers received calls several inches off the plate all game long. This was a total travesty.

It was nice for Charlie to finally stick up for his team but what in the hell was he thinking not using Springer in the 6th when they had him ready to pinch hit? A run there could have made the difference for the victory.

What an absolutely frustrating game to watch (endure?). Pitch after pitch all you could do was shake your head and wonder what the f*** was going on. The bias seemed so blatant and it never stopped...the whole game. Charlie needed to get tossed in the 4th or 5th. It might have made the Ump more accountable, gotten the crowd more fired up and motivated his team to have a "f*** this ********" chip on their shoulders for the rest of the game. Atkins needs to put the bongos on time-out until Charlie puts his leadership hat on.

The Jays are 27th in umpire favour, which isn't surprising to anyone who has watched the team over the years.

First and second are big shockers, New York and Boston. Both teams receive several extra wins from the umpires year after year after year. It's nice to have some data to confirm that.

Didn't the players vote against robo umps? Kind of hard to feel for the players when they support umps botching calls.

This is unacceptable, mlb is a s*** league.

Back in the old days it was said that players were totally okay if an ump called the outside pitch as a strike so long as he was consistent to both teams. So if the ump calls a pitch 3 inches off the plate outside to a righty bat - that's fine so long as he does it for both teams.

The problem was that Ryu was actually throwing strikes and they were called balls and Oakland was throwing several inches away and he was calling them strikes. It's hard to win when you have to fight the opposing team as well as the umpires.

Ideally, the Jays could send Ryu down to AAA to get him back on track. His velocity seems okay - and he seems to have a decent break on his curveball though it seemed kind of slow at 68-69mph.

The sad part is for only ~$5 million more a year they could have Robbie Ray. I really would have liked a:

Ray

Berrios

Gausman

Manoah

Kikuchi

Rotation.

So be it.

... I mean, time exists, so no for ~$5M more they could not have had Robbie Ray.

bichette leadoff, espinal or biggio 2nd is the play

tilapia when he plays should be 9th, nowhere else

We could play the SSS game and say Ray has been worse than Ryu, lol. Seriously though, if Ryu doesn't find his command we're in a tough spot, he might be cooked.

Terrible lineup construction for Biggio. Biggio has a much better chance of walking at the bottom of the order, than he does in front of Vlad

Bichette gets on, threat to steal, Biggio has longer AB than most, pressure on defence

Bad logic. If Bo is on, you aren’t putting Biggio on in front of Vlad without a fight

I really don't think it's been that bad. He's faced double digit missed calls in both of his starts. Those calls are huge for a guy like Ryu.

Biggio is the kid in little league that you hit 9th because he can walk. The kid in front of him might be a worse hitter, but you want the obp for top of the order. This is basic lineup construction from 6u lol

This issue predates this year though, obviously he'll have more rope, and I'm hoping he can get that pinpoint control back. Ryu can't work from behind all game or he will get killed. We'll see, mate.

Biggio bang your wife, bro? Oh wait...

actually insane, < 70% and no repercussions.

I am not even remorseful that umpires responsible for the above would lose their jobs to robo-umpiring.
