Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 If Kirk gets traded and the return is fair I'm all for it Jonny Boy. Unlike you Jansen Fanboys I just want what is best for the TEAM. I don't oddly devote myself to one good but incredibly flawed player while actively rooting that the team trade 23 year old silver sluggers or the #1 prospect in all of baseball like you guys do. As long as you agree trading Kirk for a fair return might be the best course of action I don’t care about the rest. Kirk had a great season but his body is a legit concern and cashing in on his value now while hes young and under control for a long time is just a much bigger asset than Danny Jansen. Especially if they view Moreno as the long term solution at Catcher. And Danny Jansen remains a solid cheap capable veteran option who might have even more upside with the bat. If you can get a really good long term Outfield piece for Kirk you make that trade. That trade doesn’t exist for Danny Jansen.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I personally don't care who gets traded. At the end of the day, Kirk has the most value - control + proven at MLB stage - if you want someone big/substantial/relevant for the future, this is who will get the job done. Jansen would not net much, 2 yrs of control (~10M), history of injury, pure pull-hitter - you'd have to trade him to a contender like Astros/Guardians/Giants, maybe Mets (but I presume they'll give Alvarez a full year) and the return won't be much at all at MLB level (maybe a blue chip prospect). Astros would be the best to get that done with Vazquez out, but what are you going to get really - they aren't giving up any of their elite bullpen (had to get the trade done before Brown was promoted, but they didn't want to move him then as he was one of the hotter hitters we had) or starting (considering JV prolly won't sign with Houston since he's looking for a Scherzer contract). Maybe Barber? But he isn't MLB ready for a year or two. Moreno, on the other hand, untested. So he would be someone who wants to contend soon and want to let go of contracts that expire before their contention window. This is super limited wrt OF (LHB) or SP. Maybe Marlins (Lopez) or Pirates (Reynolds)? But even then, it'd be a hard sell. Also consider that bigger bases and pitch clock = more steal game, means we need someone who can throw people out, who by all scouts' standards, Moreno is best. And dude is fast, so can also steal/not get into double plays. --- Jansen brings game-calling (of the 3 catchers, pitchers are most comfortable with him barring Manoah, considering their ERA/FIP over the season has been lower by 1 or more with him catching than Kirk/Moreno). Kirk brings framing (can't undersell it obviously when you have pitchers that feast at the lower strikezone, but this might only matter for a year or two with challenge system and possibility of robo umps) Moreno brings the pressure of throwing runners out, so perhaps less run game against him. TL;DR if you want someone good, Kirk is on the block. If you want fodder, trade one of the other two. Its not about trading Kirk cause of some bias against him, its more that he is the best candidate for a trade that could fill a gap we have with someone legit, versus dumpster diving.

Wait, are you actually suggesting that trading a top 5 MLB prospect is going to bring back a garbage return?
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Wait, are you actually suggesting that trading a top 5 MLB prospect is going to bring back a garbage return? Yes, that's exactly what he's saying, and I hope the Diamondbacks are listening. They have a top 5 prospect they absolutely need to trade for a garbage return.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Looks like the Jansen Fanboys have got their panties in a bunch tonight lol In a sea of endless Jansen Fanboy posts some sensible takes like mine might come across like I just "LOVE" Kirk and "HATE" Jansen. But if all you Jansen Fanboys upgraded your eyeglass prescriptions to the same level as your hero you would see that I'm just posting FACTS. Kirk is a 23 year old silver slugger whose comparables are all HoFers. That's a fact. Danny Jansen gets hurt multiple times every year. That's also a fact. Here's a few more facts for you: I don't think the D-Bags need a C as much as you guys hope (and I certainly wouldn't be overpaying for Kirk if I were running that team) and I've also come up with some perfect trade scenarios involving Jansen that get us a backend SP and ace reliever. But of course you fanboys are all as blind as Jansen himself so you don't see it. Now excuse me while I go and win yet another Fall Darts League Championship and you guys can get back to arguing about your dream lineup of Crag Biggio's son at leadoff, Cody Bellinger hitting 2nd and Danny Jansen batting cleanup lmao Any fights at the Fall Darts League Championship?

Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Swanson interview on this link, He's PUMPED!! He talks about Houstons crowd did not compare to Torontos in the playoffs, our potent young lineup, improvements he did to his pitches including watching video of Gausman, and much more its a good listen on the link. Starts about a minute and a half in. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/new-blue-jay-swanson-excited-to-pitch-at-outrageously-loud-rogers-centre/ New Blue Jay Swanson excited to pitch at 'outrageously loud' Rogers Centre Erik Swanson does not know much about Toronto, but he knows this: it’s loud. Very, very loud. The Blue Jays’ recently acquired relief pitcher appeared on Sportsnet 590 The Fan with Ben Ennis and Blake Murphy on Monday and said he could not get over the noise generated at Rogers Centre during the Seattle Mariners’ wild-card series in Toronto last month. “The first thing I noticed when we started playing there is how outrageously loud that place is,” said Swanson, who was part of a deal that saw outfielder Teoscar Hernandez head to Seattle last week. “And I noticed that from when I was there in ’19 as well. Having a playoff game there was one of the coolest environments I’ve played in. We went to Houston right after and I didn’t think Houston compared to Toronto as far as environment goes.” Swanson, 29, who is from Fargo, N.D., was out hunting when the trade happened. Spotty cellphone coverage made informing the right-hander about the deal a challenge. Eventually, Mariners GM Justin Hollander got through and “got the point across.” Swanson admitted that the deal caught him off guard and he “wasn’t quite sure what to think about it at first.” After a chat with his wife, he got excited about the change. “I’ve played in Toronto twice now. My first time back in ’19 and then obviously for the wild card this year,” said Swanson. “I love the area. I haven’t had a ton of time to explore it, but for the little time I’ve spent there, I’ve said it both times I’ve been there, I really do like the Toronto area. It almost kind of feels like home a little bit." Two players that could help his transition are starter Kevin Gausman and closer Jordan Romano. Gausman because Swanson admired how he developed his splitter so much that he developed one of his own, and Ramono because of the chance to pitch ahead of him. “Obviously, I’ve seen Romano from afar and the guy is electric,” Swanson said. “To be next to him and part of that bullpen is super exciting.” Maybe in a playoff game, with a packed Rogers Centre all cheering for him instead. “Definitely looking forward to that and being on the other side of it.”

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Gallo has been worth almost 7 times the amount of Bellinger in terms of WAR over the past two years. Kiermaier has been worth almost 5 times as much in that same span. Just wanted to point that out before anyone starts thumbing their nose at Gallo or KK.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Kiermaier has a zero percent chance to hit though. Atleast the other 2 have upside with the bat and could hit 40 homeruns if everything clicks right.

I have no problem with either guy (Gallo/KK) as the 4th OF… if we also go get someone like Nimmo/Conforto or Carroll/Thomas to be the everyday player

Kiermaier has out hit Bellinger by quite a bit the past two years....he's also the superior defender and baserunner compared to the other two as well.

But in his case if he’s getting 10+ mil he is going to be the starter. Again, if we get Bellinger i’d also prefer someone like Conforto to split time at LF/RF/DH
