Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 I haven't been paying attention. JBJ, Zimmer, Tapia - have any been DFA/non-tenders/released? That's our real logjam of inadequacy In the MLB, Jays haven't done anything yet. They'll be cutting likely 4 or 5 guys, 3 guaranteed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 In the MLB, Jays haven't done anything yet. Well something has to give with those 3 obviously I really want a better 4th OF who can play CF and hit
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 They seem to really like Whit but he makes the most money and maybe after the good finish to the year they can get more for him than they gave up? But again, they seem to like him a lot. Biggio, on the other hand, they clearly do not. I kid about him a lot but he was buried on the depth chart all year and couldn't even beat out Tapia for playing time. Granted, the entire industry might be pretty down on Biggio so they might not get anything for him via trade but it seems like he's clearly the low man on the totem pole and obvious trade bait so I would think he is most likely to go. I actually think trading Espinal makes a lot of sense as he would likely bring back the most value. Whit could start the year as the primary 2B with the expectation that Barger will be up some time during the year. Biggio feels like a guy the Rays would snag somehow, have him put up a 5 WAR season hitting 3rd in the lineup, then trade him again for 2 pitching prospects, 1 of which wins cy young in his rookie year.

JBJ's been long gone. Whit Merrifield and Lukes for the time being. LHB Conforto IS available.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Well something has to give with those 3 obviously I really want a better 4th OF who can play CF and hit Wouldn’t mind Trading Teo for Flexen as rumored if we used the savings to go after someone like Nimmo or Conforto

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Wouldn’t mind Trading Teo for Flexen as rumored if we used the savings to go after someone like Nimmo or Conforto Flexen has an awful statcast page. Hard pass. I would rather sign Senga & Heaney, trade Teo for RP and trade 1 of the C for a CF (something like Kirk+ for Caroll)

Just going off that rumor, not sure if there’s any legs to it

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 That wasn't a rumour, just a trade suggestion by MLBNetwork. Yeah looking past the ERA, Flexen’s numbers are gross
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 Craig Biggio's son moving further and further down the depth chart. Just non-tender him already. Why non-tender a 2-3 win player that's cheap and will likely see a wee bit of a boost with the shift rules next season. He's basically the left handed version of Whit Merrifield, with slightly less defensive prowess. Biggio is a guy you defiinitely dont want to ditch for nothing if you dont have to.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 If his last name wasn't Biggio none of you would care. But because he's the son of a Hall of Famer and had a good year with a live ball in 2019 you all act like he's some legit MLB asset. There's a reason the Jays brass doesn't play him. The guy is a slap hitting flyball hitter with a weak arm. He can take a walk but his OBP is still going to suck because he struggles to put up xBA's north of the Mendoza line. Last year he was below Whit, Espinal and even Tilapia on the depth chart and this year he'll get passed by Barger and others. Trade this guy to the Astros for a ham sandwich for all I care.

The question isn’t is Cavan Biggio good, the question is whether or not a 1.5 win player is worth 3M. The answer is yes.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 The team did seem like they soured on Biggio a bit last season. Wasn't playing 2B much over Merrifield/Espinal, and they seemed reluctant to try him in the OF despite Tapia being the one they were using instead. So if the team trades Biggio this winter, it wouldn't surprise me. Non tendering him is not happening though, and it shouldn't.

Does anyone actually care about how his dad is? Doesn't impact my thoughts, or anyone I knows thoughts, on him as a player.

Yeah, trading him isnt the end of the world, it wouldnt really surprise me, but non-tendering him would just be patently dumb.

Yeah, I mean posters on here can all say “I want to see what Biggio can do based on 2019” .. and “trolls” can have their opinion.. but what’s fact is that the Jays don’t think anything of him. It’s really hard to dispute that based on how he’s deployed
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 Tapia, Zimmer, and Griffin DFA'd. Zulueta, Horwitz, Barger, and Martinez added.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Zimmer and Tapia officially have been DFA'd. The Blue Jays have designated outfielders Bradley Zimmer and Raimel Tapia for assignment. Toronto also released left-hander Foster Griffin. In corresponding moves, the Jays selected the contracts of righty Yosver Zulueta and infielders Addison Barger, Spencer Horwitz and Orelvis Martinez.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 Zimmer and Tapia officially have been DFA'd. Too slow.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Too slow. Said no woman, ever.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Got to find a way to hang on to Biggio until at least 2024. Once roboumps come in, Biggio will be a revelation. Book it.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 THat puts the Jays at exactly 40 active players, looks like they won't be selecting anyone in the Rule 5 draft unless a trade happens between now and then.

Looks like the Terminator is headed for another divorce.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Why the f*** would Milwaukee add Jon Singleton.... yes THAT Jon Singleton to their 40 man to protect him from the rule 5 draft?
Dagagad Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Hopefully Martinez makes it through the rule 5 ok. Its interesting they kept Capra and lukes. The espinal/biggio/whit/barger thing will sort itself out i think. Barger can stay down for a month, and whit and cavan presumably can duke it out.
