Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 It’s unfortunate he has to Catch Manoah. Jansen should be the #1. Wouldn’t be shocked if Jansen actually DH’s in Game 1. I'm fine either way. If Mahoah is comfortable with Kirk, I wouldn't mess with it. They should both be in the lineup anyhow and I think they both will be. People's moods move with the wind, Jansen is hot again, Kirk is cold, so people want him instead of Kirk, but it could easily flip on a dime at any given moment and Kirk could go red hot again. They are both fantastic catchers and hopefully they both are hot in the postseason.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 The lineup configuration is definitely going to be Whit at 2B and Tapia in LF. The club has soured on Biggio (and he hasn't been great offensively recently) and I don't know if Espinal or Gurriel will be ready to play by Friday. I don't even think it matters with Espinal as I think they are going to roll with Merrifield regardless. Tapia and Gurriel is more of a question mark, but at this point I doubt Gurriel will be ready to play LF. I don't know if it will happen, as the Jays have been reluctant to DH Jansen even with a 3rd catcher on the roster, but the lineup in every playoff game better have both Kirk and Jansen in it. The only scenario where they shouldn't do that is if Springer is hurt and needs to DH to keep his bat in the lineup, but if Springer can play CF, then it would be criminal if both catchers are not in every lineup.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Neither probably see any playoff innings. Rotation: Manoah Gausman Stripling (Berrios) Bullpen: Romano Garcia Cimber Bass Mayza Phelps Pop White Kikuchi? Kikuchi should be better than what he is. He's got the 2nd highest K/9 for RPs since he's moved to the bullpen. He's at 16.74 K/9, only topped by Edwin Diaz at 17.36 K/9. Hader is 3rd with 14.58 K/9. Minimum innings was set to 10.

harvey16 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Looks like they might get the game in tonight! Weather will clear by 9pm, so maybe just a delayed start
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 It’s quite impressive that all of these guys have a wRC+ > 110 Jansen Springer Guerrero Hernandez Kirk Bichette Merrifield Chapman Gurriel And Espinal and Biggio are at 99 and 96 Very impressive.

Forget starting. in his last 8 games, his numbers are really good. I know it's a SSS and nobody really trusts him, but there's certainly a possibility he plays a big role in the playoffs. 12 IP 13 H (.440 BABIP) 22 K (16.5 K/9) 4 BB (3 BB/9) 2.86 FIP 1.43 xFIP

To be honest I was thinking he would not even be on the roster until I saw these numbers.

His average exit velocity is 90.8 MPH with a 48% hard hit rate, so the .440 BABIP isn't all just bad luck.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Kikuchi should not be on the WC roster. Perhaps later rounds in case of mop up innings. There just isn't enough of a sample to draw enough trust in him. I don't know, if he goes out tomorrow and dominates over 5 innings, maybe you ride him while he's hot and put him on the roster, but I could see this guy falling to bits when the pressure of a big moment arrives.

Yeah, I doubt he's on the roster. ALDS/ALCS and WS are much different than the WCS.

Yeah probably makes sense to have extra position players. Some pinch runners and maybe 3rd catcher so we can sub Kirk out if he gets on base? Maybe Gurriel on the bench as a pinch hit option
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Yeah, I doubt he's on the roster. ALDS/ALCS and WS are much different than the WCS. Yeah there are no throwaway games in the WCS Even if you go down 8 runs you don't throw in the towel and use your worst pitcher In the longer series you can punt a game if you are getting pummeled. Or take a mild risk and use your worst P if you are up huge.

Forget starting. I couldn’t believe it either. The team really needs to take a hard long look at him this offseason. This is something that should be fixable. How do you strikeout so many guys, but also give up so much hard contact. Is he hanging every 2nd slider? Is it a certain pitch that is getting hit hard? Does he sometimes forget he’s pitching in a game and it’s not a bullpen session? Is he actually the best pitcher in the league and just so bored he’s not interested?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Hahahaha... Easily the worst lineup of the year And appropriately so!
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Mitch White has no excuses, this is easily the best fielding lineup the Jays have put out all year.

If you look at RP samples from the last few years with 10+ IP and then sort by K% and eyeball for RPs who have had TONS of Ks but posted poor ERA and FIPs (read: got hammered while getting tons of Ks).... you don't get many but you see guys like Ray Black, Zac Rosscup, this s***** version of Craig Kimbrel... And his Stuff+ numbers support this 104.8 stuff+ and 94.3 command+ Compares to guys like Jordan Holloway, Matt Barnes, Jared Solomon, Gregory Soto, Yoan Lopez, Tyler Matzek, Andrew Wantz, Michael Fulmer, Jovani Moran, Corey Knebel There is no longer much reason to believe he can be a good starting pitcher. But there remains some reasons to believe he could even out into a pretty good reliever. Some of those reliever names are actually solid enough to help a good team.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 That is one ugly ass lineup lol

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 This is f***ed up? Last day of the year a DH, in a meaningless game?
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Easily the worst lineup of the year And appropriately so! Charlie would be jealous at the shear mediocrity of that lineup.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 What if the weather is s*** tomorrow too? Does their Thursday off day get f***ed?

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 This is f***ed up? Last day of the year a DH, in a meaningless game? St. Louis 1/2 game ahead of us, still matters for WS
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Disappointing if they have to play 2 on Wednesday. Seems pointless since it does absolutely nothing for either team, and Orioles fans are likely already checked out and won't even come to either game. I guess as mentioned it has to do with tiebreakers with the Cardinals. I know Schneider likes to use a lot of relievers normally, but with the WC round starting on Friday and being three games in a row, the important members of the pen may have to go all 3 games, so wasting them tomorrow in either game would probably not be the best idea. Let White and Kikuchi take it on the chin tomorrow, have them go 100+ pitches regardless of performance.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Huh... so Wilner's f***ed??? Vague tweet... Make us play a DH tomorrow?? Wtf MLB
