BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Didn't realize until now we have 2 "extra" games this week vs Tampa. 5 games in 4 days Glad they're at home!!! Catching 3 of them the next 2 days on some biz. Excited and also scared shitless. Rays can be so frustrating to play against. We had a good road trip but losing winnable gms like yesterday is disappointing with sched winding down, and W's vs TEX at a premium. Still a big believer home wildcard matters a lot, especially if we have to go to the House of Horrors.

It always seems they are the definition of "try-hard"... if this wasn't the highest level of sports you could knock them for it...
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 yesterday sucked Perez got so many calls
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Total at bat and thus game changer. Tell me again about the charm of the "human element" and their various "strike zones" behind the plate. So done with them. Consistency on what is a ball and a strike for both teams with robo technology will improve competition and make the game better overall. After a season or two people will only wonder why it wasn't brought in sooner - just like the NL DH.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Given his speed, LF is possible He doesn’t have the power to profile in an Outfield corner. Second Base makes more sense. But he should catch. It doesn’t necessarily need to be here.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 (edited) 69% called strike accuracy, lmao. 17 of 54 called strikes were wrong... Imagine being that bad at your job with no repercussions. Edited September 12, 2022 by Spanky99
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 With Tampa getting healthy, these nine games coming up against them are going to be bad, bad, bad. I think they win four of the five in this series. I wouldn't be shocked to see them win all five. It's not pessimism, it's realism.

Jays are playing their best baseball of the season lately. The Jays are very healthy themselves right now, and the only player of note missing presently is Gurriel. After the shaky start to August they have turned things around and gone 16-7 in their last 23 games. Despite struggling against the Orioles earlier in the year they largely dominated them on their home turf. The Rays bullpen was just taxed to the extreme in back to back games over the weekend, and there is a double header coming up tomorrow. But the Jays automatically have no shot against the Rays just because.

They're calling up a AAA shitballer to start today. Taxing their bullpen early in the series will set the entire tone because they won't have a chance to recover. Also Berrios' start might be the most important of the entire series.

We beat a Yankee and Red Sox team on a downswing, we've also swept an awful Pittsburgh team, barely, took two of three against a bad Cubs team, barely, and took two of three from a not very good Texas squad (the one game we lost is the one game we actually faced a quality pitcher). Even forgetting the Angels sweep, the bottom line is we've been winning games, great, mostly games we should win, that's what you have to do, but Tampa is a different animal. In the coming series we will face Jeffrey Springs, Drew Rasmussen, and likely Shane McClanahan. They'll probably manage to poop out a couple of other competitive pitching games because that's what they do. Especially against us. We are in trouble in this series, not just because, but because Tampa is a tough freaking matchup.

Yay, another person who is the type to tear a strip out of the Jays when they lose a few games, but then will also automatically do their best to discount when the team plays very well and wins the vast majority of their games. If the Jays win then it's because they are playing s***** opponents and they deserve no credit because in MLB the better team on paper should always win. If the Jays lose then it's time to panic for the exact same reason, the better team is always supposed to win. There is a reason they actually still play the games, as anybody can win on any given day in the sport. The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays have nearly the exact same record heading into this series, have nearly the exactly same run differential, and each team is playing well heading into this series. The Jays are 8-2 in their last 10, and the Rays are 7-3 in their last 10. These are two extremely well matched teams, as accordingly each team has a good shot at winning this series if they play well and limit mistakes. Since Schneider took over the Jays have been winning a ton of games, and are 32-19 over this 51 game stretch. Right now the Jays are basically a very tough matchup for everyone they are playing, and it's just as easy to argue that it very well may be the Rays who are in trouble heading into this series.

You want to compare the Rays injuries vs the Jays injuries this season? The fact that these teams' records and run differentials is close is indicative of just how remarkably deep and resourceful the Rays are. If they can hang around while badly wounded, which they did, how much better will they be when they are healthy? Well, we're about to find out.

I see them still missing key contributors such as Baz, Glasnow, Zunino and others, and it's still up in the air whether McClananhan will be ready to return in time for this series. This isn't exactly a full strength Rays squad that the Jays are about to face despite your doomposting.

Digging deeper into the numbers Jays are 110-103 vs the Rays in Toronto. Thank f*** this series isn't being played at the Trop.

Yankees absolutely s*** on them last weekend.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Bo won MLB player of the week, obviously.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Get to this f***er early and continue to wear out there pitching. Would be a great start to the series if the Jays could put up a few runs in the first few innings. And lets hope we get 2021 Berrios not 2022 Berrios

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 yeah must be easing him back in Good! They should totally do that LOL He'll likely only play in one of the two games tomorrow then too...

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Today is the last day for Vlad to hit his career 100 and take the 9th youngest to hit 100 spot away from Bryce Harper (he'll tie with him tomorrow). If he misses that, he has until 17th to beat Pujols to the 10th youngest (hitting one on the 17th will tie him with Pujols). --- And more to the point, can the dude break 30 HRs this season?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 I thought Wander Franco had been re-activated. Just not playing??? I think he was shaking his hand in the one at bat I saw Saturday, and Yankees announcers mentioned he may not be fully recovered. Then yesterday only had 2 at bats and taken out. It was 10-1 or something when he was taken out... however must be something going on if he was rested half of yesterday but they still don't have him in there today.

That sounds right, he's had several setbacks coming into his activation.
