When was the last 'hot streak' for JBJ? In 2020? Dude's posted like a 40 wRC+ over the past 2 years while getting regular at bats. He's likely to be a 12 wRC+ hitter if he gets 3 at bats a month like Zimmer did.

I have no idea. Probably like 2018 or something.

Why is Espinal sitting on the bench so much and Cavin playing so much. Doesn't make sense to me.

Biggio is a better player than Espinal, to put it simply.

If they could morph the 2 players together ... unstoppable. Great eye, great D, good pop.... probably a 5+WAR player

Don't you know our players are so exhausted that they need extra days off? Like it's such a demanding sport... LOL

This is the 2nd manager this season who is resting guys and getting Tapia into the lineup as a result. Atkins is crushing on Raimel and there’s no stopping it.

Thank god Zimmer is still here. I really enjoyed having a wee fat fella like Kirk and a guy who looks like lurch from the Adam’s family on the same team.

Hellboy and the Michelin man to go with Skinny Predator... god I love this team.:P

And a switch hitter to boot!

Also, nobody has made a JBJ signing thread, which shows that the board is mostly people smart enough to realize that the signing isn't remotely threadworthy.

As long as he gets as much playing time as Zimmer, I'm good. I worry that his name will get home more starts, even with Schneider.

Anyone else think something is up with Teoscar?

The guy is having a poor year, poor at bats, suddenly doesn't like hustling or making an effort

2021: 132 wRC+, .227 ISO, 4.2 WAR in 143 games

2022: 128 wRC+, .221 ISO, 2.2 WAR in 86 games

I'm not sure it's fair to say he's having a poor year.

128 wRC+ and an .819 OPS this season still despite it being considered a "down year" for him compared to 2021. If he goes on a hot streak, his stats will look better. Don't see much of a difference between the 2021 and 2022 Teoscar.

Yeah I can't really see any major difference from last season to this season. Pretty similar results thus far.

Teo was also garbage at the start so he's been extremely good over the last couple of months.

.396 wOBA since June 1st.

Teo and Bo have really uncompetitive at bats quite often. They are also good players overall. Those things aren’t really mutually exclusive.

I’m not even sure how much teams even factor it into analysis. Overall production probably trumps everything.

At the end of the day, every pitcher misses their spots and both those guys can square up a mistake very well. If a pitcher doesn’t miss their spots, they can be easy outs as they will swing at pitches they shouldn’t swing at on or off the plate.

Psychologically, I don’t want to see teo or Bo come up in big spots usually. Logically, that’s idiotic but there is something really deflating about a really bad at bat. But at the end of the day overall that probably doesn’t matter. I also, could be wrong about how often that happens. Maybe I just remember their bad at bats more.

One of my personal ‘ask a front office questions’ is this something that front offices even think about at all in a serious way. I’d guess not.

Yeah if anything Teo has been an absolute model of consistency for three years. Similar walk and strikeout rates, consistent power, mediocre defensively but not so much to be crippling. Putting up roughly 4-4.5 WAR for every 162 games. He's been a very reliable guy to plug in year in and year out.

Also, why it seems very unlikely that he’d be the trade piece this off-season. His WAR production would be hard to replace in free agency.

I don't think Toronto trades either of Gurriel / Hernandez.

Teo will be relatively expensive in arb3 which limits his value in trade ofc.

Gurriel is not going to appeal to many teams despite being cheap and hitting .300+ because no power, no defensive value.

Odds are these guys are in the corners in 2023 and Toronto just rides them to the end of their control.

That depends on how they choose to allocate the money. Teo is gonna get paid big money for his FA years, probably in the 20-24 aav range for 4 to 5 years. Jays might decide that money is needed to sign Vlad/Kirk//Bo/Manoah ect. Lourdes is making pennies through next year and hes gonna get a big bump, probably into the 15-18 aav range, after 2023 so you have to make some tough decisions on which players to keep. Dont have enough payroll to sign everyone. And it doesnt make sense even if you did. Cant just hold on to all your good players in to their 30s. Thats how you turn into the Phillis circa 2010 and beyond.

I think you do what Laika said, keep them but let them go or QO them at free agency. You could prob QO teo is he hits like this next year.

Rely on your ability to develop players for their replacements.

I think we see one of them moved this offseason for pitching and resign the other. No way we let them walk for just a draft pick imo.

I think it's very possible they let Teo walk for a pick.

Doubt they would even qualify Gurriel.

IDK I dont like the idea of letting guys walk for a pick in the 70 range. Doesnt seem like enough.
