Dude just needs to trust his fastball, hopefully they told him to work on it while sent down to just pound the f***ing zone with it, it's a good pitch.

Was his complete lack of fastball command a "trust" related issue? Was it primarily mechanical or mental in nature? At any rate this is a very big start for him to work towards proving he deserves a rotation spot in the second half.

I've always believed it's between the ears, his body language shows it profoundly.

No, he was building up to a starter role after the mono, he then injured his lat in game, shut em down for 6 weeks.

he will never be a starter. time to kill that dream.

Was the body language a result of frustration over lack of command due to mechanical issues? This is the sort of thing that's hard to prove one way or the other without really diving into his mechanics. At any rate hopefully he does well, his one tune-up start in AAA was decent. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to just skip over the 5th starter spot and give Kikuchi another tune-up start in the minors. Perhaps the team wanted to limit the innings a bit for the likes of Stripling and Manoah in particular to keep them fresh for the stretch run.

If Kooch indeed comes out of his side session today fine, the rotation moving forward will be Berrios (starting tonight), Gausman, Kikuchi, Manoah and Stripling.

I thought it was the shoulder that he injured? Lat injury seems like new info?

Infirmary updates...

There is 0 expectation for either of these guys... sad because they seem to have electric stuff.

Shoulder discomfort was the initial report. It was reported shortly afterwards that he suffered a strained lat. All things considered that's preferable to shoulder issues.

It's certainly possible, hopefully we get the Kooch that was dealing in May IIRC... or maybe he legit had a neck issue. I think it's confidence, as the inconsistency makes no sense. Here's to hoping for a refined Yusei, lol.

It's one of those cases of mono that moves to the shoulder and then the lat. Eventually it'll probably move to the groin and/or hip. Probably have to wait until next year to know for sure.

That was lumped in when he initially left the game, it ended up his lat.

Why? I mean knock on wood... but they can be back in the stretch run.

I kind of want them to trade for Richard Bleier lol

He's like a lefty Cimber expect not full submarine

Seems like he's legitimately good but boring and would be cheap and it would make everyone angry which is cool

I would gladly see him employed over Banda.

The Jays now have a +61 run differential. This is good for a Pythagorean win-loss of 55-42. Last year we were waiting for the Jays record to catch up to expected differential (it never quite did). This year I believe the expected differential has finally caught up to the talent, meaning I believe this is sustainable. Even before in the season when we were at 10 games + 500 I never felt everything was clicking. Right now it feels like everything is and the boys are primed to finish off the season on a tear with Vladdy a big part of that.

The Yankees have built up such a huge lead I don’t think they can be caught but the team is regressing. As expected their pitching rotation is falling back down to earth. I suspect the Jays are going to make it a much closer race than anyone could have imagined.

Don’t worry I will knock on all the wood after hitting submit.

I'm cautiously optimistic for his next start after the reports during last night's game about Kikuchi refining his delivery and mechanics. His comments about throwing from a different arm slot every start this season were very interesting, hopefully he's managed to find a little more consistency. I still semi expect him to walk the ballpark in the first inning though so who the f*** knows how things will turn out.

I don't think Banda keeps his pen spot past the trade deadline, he and Beasley are the obvious choices to be dropped from the roster if/when reinforcements are brought aboard. Castillo has remaining options but he's been a pleasant surprise up to this point.

Unfortunately Castillo does probably get optioned. He's probably the third name on the chopping black and they need a spot for Kikuchi tomorrow so he's basically second on the block.

I guess they could let Richards go but I dunno about that.

Apparently, Shapiro will announce details of a stadium renovation tomorrow early afternoon. Hopefully it's something substantial.

I'm not sure what's the most drastic thing they could feasibly do to the building.

I'd wager the most complex would be to rip up the current seats and make them more in line with baseball activities and perhaps cupholders

this is the main thing I want

reduce capacity slightly so the seats are all a few cm wider, and point them all towards the infield. and yeah cupholders in most sections would be cool.

I like that they are coming back down, but the way the entire staff was clicking on all cylinders earlier Makes me wonder if they were flirting with new sticky stuff. They may have put it away now until playoffs but we will see if all of a sudden they start clicking again. I dont trust those f***ers.

I think this is a given, the 200 level was already replaced with these seats. You'll notice they are a darker blue. That alone will make the stadium look fresher.

I think they could also do some cool stuff with the outfield. There was talk of elevated bullpens and an asymmetrical outfield wall. I bet they'll do something cool with the hitters eye and some of that blank space between the wall and the outfield seats to make it flow better. Concourses will be re-done i'd imagine, and they desperately need a food overhaul.

It would be pretty hard to get away with using sticky stuff as the umpires are checking each pitchers pitching hand after every inning. If I recall correctly the Yankees played a pretty easy schedule in the first half of the season. Another potential factor that could explain the increased offense as the season has gone on is the use of humidors in all of MLB's stadiums. This was expected to have an offense suppressing effect in the earlier months as humidity levels and temperatures are lower in the spring. As the season went on the humidors were expected to lead to an increase in exit velocities as the season went on in hot/humid climates.

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2022-trade-value-21-to-30/

Kirk is 27 and Bo is 21 on Fangraphs Top Trade Value list.

I think they are unfairly knocking Kirk for his defense though, which they admit drops him for around the 15th spot overall to 27th. His defense seems fine to me but it plays up because of elite pitch framing. I don't see his defense falling off a cliff by the time his team control runs out at age 27 either.
