That lead-from-the-front swinging dick personality is exactly what the administration hates the most. Gibbons, Donaldson, Martin, Pillar, Anthopoulos, etc. all got traded or canned. Some of them left on very bad terms. Schneider will likely keep a low profile.

Benintendi is an outfielder and Toronto has three starting outfielders AND the DH spot occupied most of the time

Benintendi is not a perfect fit

Wouldn't say he's a "perfect fit" but he definitely would be a nice fit as a LHB who can hit at the top of the lineup and play outfield. Better than running out Tapia and Zimmer on a regular basis!

Zimmer is a defensive replacement and pinch runner, he almost never starts.

Tapia starts like 50% of the games. When one of the three starting outfielders needs a day off or a DH day.

Benintendi on the team = one of Springer, Gurriel, Hernandez, Benintendi, Kirk, or Jansen is ALWAYS sitting.

It's not really an efficient use or resources. Kind of awkward.

It's moot because he's not Vax but I just don't see Toronto adding a bat tbh

If they spend I think it's on pitching only and they might do something like take on a heavier contract for a closer type

Yeah as much as I want them to replace Tapia, I see them standing pat on the position player side. My guess is all the pickups are going to be pitching (1 starter and then as many RP's as they can afford/get).

That's exactly the set up right now, just with Tapia. You may be underestimating how much playing time Tapia is being given. He has started a lot more than 50% of the team's games so far.

The value swing between Benintendi and Tapia is multiple wins in the standings, probably more than a high end reliever.

He's not starting that much anymore. I think 3 of the last 6 for example. Since everyone is healthy.

It's not a multiple win swing either. By projections it would only be about one win.

A high leverage reliever might beat that difference and perhaps by a lot depending on your reliever evaluation politics

Just trade for Naquin, Peralta, Ortega instead.

Yeah just a cheaper upgrade on Tapia

Injuries in baseball do happen and you can't expect the entire lineup 1 through 9 to be healthy 100% time. The Jays lack of depth this season on the roster really hurt when guys were on the IL. Jansen missed significant time, and other guys like Teo, Gurriel and Springer have missed some time as well. Also, maybe one of Gurriel or Jansen are moved for an arm. Benintendi is also a LHB which is what the Blue Jays need. Like I said he isn't a perfect fit, but would be a nice fit if he can be acquired at a reasonable cost.

Regardless, it's a moot point at the moment since it's very unlikely the Blue Jays could trade for Benintendi anyways unless certain policies change.

That's a beta move. An Alpha comes in and makes it known there's a new Sheriff in Town. Bench Vlad for showing up the coaches last night and his s***** performance overall. Bat Bo 8th, Gurriel 2nd, stop giving Kirk days off and tell the starter (in front of the whole team) he's expected to go AT LEAST 7 innings tonight because the bullpen is s***. Take away all electronics from the clubhouse and any amenities they have. Cold showers only until they start winning. Burn the HR jacket too.

We need a man to manage this team.

lol

Someone like Quintana for SP depth a good pen arm or two I think, I still like your suggestion of Ortega(can play CF with good defense) and Robertson, shouldn't be too expensive.

This FO is unpredictable. Few if any saw:

Berrios deal last deadline for 2 top prospects

Berrios extension term/AAV

Gausman signing term/AAV

Kooch signing

Springer signing

Dozens OTB said Charlie wouldn't be fired this year - no chance

My prediction at the deadline:

Quintana like depth SP

An impact LH bat

A current position player regular will go in a deal

2 mid to top end pen arms will come over

A prospect(s) many this Board will lose their mind over will go as a prospect

Firing Charlie was either a big message they were going all in or its is a move that buys them some room for milquetoast deadline moves. We will know soon enough.

I truly believe that Ross has still placed the utmost importance on adding a good lefty hitter. We know the pen needs help and a depth starter is required but he has been talking about a lefty since the off-season. There will be moves and I'd imagine at least one significant one - but I'm not sure if it's the move we're all expecting.

So with Kikuchi out with a neck strain, Gausman back tonight and Berrios looking stronger lately maybe the Jays can get a roll going into the AS break.

Gausman

Manoah

Castillo

Berrios

Let's do this Jays

And with Stripling pitching how he has been that would be an borderline elite rotation. Berrios would be the 5 lmao

I like it. Just shake it up a bit see if that prompts Vladdy or Bo to start beasting.

Like the lineup. Love that Kirk is batting higher. Batting Vladdy second is great as well. And no Tapia which is so nice!

Guerrero in the two hole is awesome. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bo take off with Charlie gone.

Wanted Kirk in the 3 spot for a while now. LTBF….it was only a matter of time.

Yeah this is an excellent lineup. The right players are playing, and moving Bichette down in the order was badly needed. Schneider already looking better than Buntoyo.

In terms of hitter talent The Book basically says you want them to hit

1st = best hitter

2nd = second best hitter

3rd = fourth best hitter

4th = third best hitter

5th = fifth best hitter

Toronto has their

3rd best hitter leading off

best hitter hitting 2nd

2nd best hitter hitting 3rd

4th best hitter hitting 4th

5th best hitter hitting 5th

So it's not exactly optimal, it's just a change.

The reason 3rd in the order is not for one of the top 3 hitters is because they come up with bases empty and 2 outs a lot.

3rd would actually be the spot for Bo IMO because he's not really a high OBP guy.

I think I'd go:

Vlad

Kirk

Bo

Springer

Teoscar

Gurriel

Chapman

Jansen

Biggio

Ya ideally Bo hits third high power low OBP guy

But at least they moved Vlad up. No reason for him to not hit top 2 from this point forward.
