gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Springer apparently needs another DH day After playing 7 innings last night? There's no reason why Springer can't be in CF while Kirk DH's tonight. Get some players off their feet in either one of tomorrow night's or Thursday afternoon's game.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 I agree but the horseshoe will fall out of the Yankees' ass eventually. Their schedule is more difficult than ours and it's only Mid-June so there is still plenty of time. Fangraphs thinks we have a 20% chance to win the division still. The upcoming series against the Yanks has like a 30% sway in the division win % odds I think. I read that somewhere… like if the Jays get swept their division win goes to like 10% and if the Jays sweep the Yanks it goes up to like 40% or something.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Tapia might be raking but every time he has a play to make in the OF with runners on base, he derps it and more often than not, they score. Kinda over that - happens way too frequently . That said, he is becoming a much more interesting asset to be able to package into a trade, thoughts? Zimmer can't hit but he shouldn't be hitting, he's strictly a late-inning defensive replacement and a pinch-runner. Tapia doesn't hold a candle to what Zimmer adds in those settings. If Tapia continues to hit anywhere close to where he's hitting now, I take him 10 out of 10 times over what Zimmer is bringing to the table. Zimmer should have been off this team weeks ago, and Lukes should have been given a shot. There's no way that Lukes wouldn't provide more value to this team than Zimmer (he could provide more value than Zimmer by sucking a lot, but not quite AS much.) Zimmer's defence and speed are nice, but he's not being used like a guy who could arguably have his production matched by any random person on this board, so he is costing the team FAR more than he is giving the team.

Also I did some quick and dirty calculations and realized that about 18% of our remaining schedule is against the Orioles! Jays fans rejoice!

You've looked at the advanced data to see how he might be holding up?

I feel like Zimmer’s defense and speed are a bit overrated too? Haven’t checked numbers but its not like he’s Buxton/JBJ/Keirmaer out there. And his bat is probably one of the worst in the majors. Not worth a roster spot IMO.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Shocker. I think we all saw this coming. Sad. Maybe he can come back 2023 2nd half?? His time as a Blue Jay may be over already

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Silver lining: Stripling is gives us a more predictable starts week in and week out. Ryu was like a box of chocolates. I dreaded the thought of Ryu in the playoffs (yes, Charlie would use him in the playoffs). Also, this may prompt Atkins to be more aggressive in the trade acquisition route.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Yeah he's probably done as a Blue Jay. There's some good news
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Ok. So who will/should the Jays target to add to the rotation. A cheaper rental or someone with term that can be added to the core for multiple seasons?

Now's the time to audition some multi inning types. Adrian Hernandez?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Shocker. I think we all saw this coming. Sad. Maybe he can come back 2023 2nd half?? His time as a Blue Jay may be over already If it's TJS, then he's likely done as a Jay. Pretty much $40m in a sunk cost since this season will be a wash and next year (if it's TJ) will be as well. That's the risk with free agency some times. Bring on Montas.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Groshans and Pearson for Montas? Maybe add Samad Taylor?
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 I think this injury for Ryu probably dates back to last season. Remember when he was dealing in the 1st half, got hurt, came back and was dog poo? Dog poo this season as well. IDK. Sucks but at least we have the depth right now (Stripling) to take the hit. But feels like we could need a acquisition as a safety net now. Pearson becomes more important now.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Idiot. Why? He's still getting his $20M this year and next year and the team will benefit by him not being available. You make it sound like he was diagnosed with cancer or something. Do you feel sorry for him?

You make it sound like he was diagnosed with cancer or something. Do you feel sorry for him? I'm just guessing but maybe he's referencing how much of a dick you look like when you cheer for a player on the team you follow to have a potential career ending injury. On top of that it leads to the team getting almost no value out of nearly $40 million in salary. That's just fantastic news all around, we should all be dancing in the streets.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 s***** news to hear but not very surprising. Luckily Stripling has been doing well his last few starts.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Groshans and Pearson for Montas? Maybe add Samad Taylor? This is the exact trade I was thinking including Taylor. I think that probably gets it done. Unless we have injuries to the top 3 I would shop lower in the market but I think that gets it done.
Big BlueJay Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Kirk on the bench again. Counting tonight, Kirk has not started in 3 of the last 6 games (there was an off day in between as well), and only caught once. Kawhi wasn't load managed this much. Espinal on the bench too after 2 hits and 3 RBI last night, absolutely ridiculous
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Ryu headed for surgery, done for the year (at least)
