Excellent Barry Horowitz example, but his heyday in jobbing to the stars was the 90s. Aside from that, perfect post.

I recall Horowitz featuring regularly on Maple Leaf Wrestling on Saturday afternoons back in the 80's. That show was terrible as it was wall to wall jobber vs star squash matches. At the time Stampede Wrestling was the bomb as it regularly had quality matches with the likes of Bret and Owen Hart, Dynamite Kid, Davey Boy Smith etc.

Yeah right, from the first post I ever made on this board the "clique" was all over me. I think I see the problem here, apparently most are you are too stupid to even understand what I'm saying most of the time. The point of my post was that managers deciding to give guys a day off while they're red hot is stupid and generally the hot streak ends after that day off. Meanwhile several of you took my facts about Sanchez and keep commenting on how this will ruin Collins' career, if you weren't all slobbing each other's knobs all the time you might realize you're the ones who sound stupid

Toronto Blue Jays MLB Baseball

JAYS NOTES: Blue Jays, and other teams, are shuffling off to Buffalo for flights to the U.S.

BOSTON — When is an off-day not a day off? When it becomes a significantly longer than anticipated travel day.

Rather than flying here from Toronto on Sunday night following their game against the Oakland Athletics, the Blue Jays delayed their journey until late Monday afternoon, in part to avoid the congestion of the Boston Marathon, staged earlier that day.

There was another twist to the travel day, however, one that many sports teams entering Canada are deploying.

Rather than fly out of Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, the team bussed to Buffalo on Monday and flew out of Buffalo International Airport.

It’s the same strategy that will be deployed by the Philadelphia 76ers following their playoff games against the Raptors and the same itinerary the Oakland A’s used following Sunday’s game.

The reason? Travellers who enter the U.S. via land points of entry do not require proof of a negative COVID-19 test. They do, however, require to be fully vaccinated, reality for travel each way across the Canada-U.S. border.

The Jays and other pro teams aren’t necessarily trying to exploit a loophole here.

In fact, the Jays have been extremely diligent in their COVID-related protocols, testing anyone in the organization showing symptoms.

It is expected other Major League Baseball teams will follow the lead of the Jays, A’s and the NBA 76ers, to name three teams using the itinerary.

At issue is the risk of players testing positive — or even coming down with a false positive — and being stuck in Canada for an undetermined length of time.

In the case of the 76ers, for example, that could be critical in the midst of a playoff series.

Depending on the time of day and border wait, the 170-kilometre journey from the Rogers Centre to the Buffalo airport can be done in less than two hours.

With Monday being the Jays’ only day without a game in the first 31 days of the season, not having to spend extra time going through the COVID testing process was a potential time-saver for the team, as well.

While the Red Sox haven’t revealed their travel plans, they could follow the same routine as the A’s, especially given the circumstances surrounding the team, which has included three players testing positive for COVID this week.

“We know who is not going to Toronto and we already planned accordingly,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said on Tuesday. “We’re not in the business of panicking here.”

They are, however, in the business of investigating flights through Buffalo for their four-game series in Toronto, which begins on April 25. The Red Sox have had three players test positive for COVID this week and obviously want to avoid having any of their travelling party stranded in Canada.

It’s important to stress that teams such as the Jays and others aren’t doing anything that isn’t available to the average traveller. Canadians have been utilizing the border airport for decades and have taken advantage of the convenience since the border re-opened.

It’s not clear how regularly the Jays will use the Buffalo airport during the season with those decisions potentially being made on a trip-to-trip basis.

Their next trip, for example, follows a May 4 night game against the Yankees and requires them to be in Cleveland the following night to face the

With the exception of the Orioles, the AL East could be a season-long dogfight, some early season evidence gleaned by a look at the standings prior to Wednesday’s game here.

There was a three-way tie atop the division with the Jays, Red Sox and Yankees all at 6-5 and the Tampa Bay Rays a half-game back at 6-6.

Cora, for one, has been impressed with the Jays emergence as a divisional threat.

“(They’re) a good offensive team,” Cora said. “They did an amazing job when they won 91 games last year and they didn’t make it to the playoffs. But it was a team that, towards the end of the season, probably nobody wanted to play them.

“They’re a challenge, like everybody in this division. There’s a lot of talent out there. A lot of good young teams and they’re one of them.”

FIVE IS ALIVE

Other than a dodgy first inning when he walked the first two batters he faced, lefty Yusei Kikuchi’s outing on Tuesday offered up a rather hefty boost for the Jays rotation.

Relying on aggressive usage of his fastball, Kikuchi held the Sox to just three hits in five innings.

Kikuchi said the key was an early visit from third basemen Matt Chapman, who offered some pointed advice.

“He just reminded me to be aggressive,” Kikuchi said. “It gave me a lot of confidence. Coming from Matt Chapman, it meant a lot. I feel I was able to gather myself and go back to being aggressive out there.”

Just one start, but the Jays believe the southpaw is headed down the good track. The Toronto front office saw upside in the free-agent signee and is expecting him to show continued improvement as the season moves along.

“I feel so good about him now,” manager Charlie Montoyo said. “We feel like when he pitches now, we have a chance. He was aggressive with his fastball, throwing 96 (miles per hour) and he was in control.”

He was also sharp defensively, fielding no fewer than five grounders that resulted in outs at first.

This will obviously be be beyond your limited understanding of baseball but you need to look beyond the results only when it comes to evaluating hitter performance. Collins actually had a good game with the bat, he just wasn't rewarded with the expected results. He hit two liners with exit velocities of 102.6 MPH and 100.4 MPH with respective expected batting averages of .790 and .430. With a little better luck he'd be looking at a 1 for 4 or even 2 for 4 evening.

After last night, the Jays are 6-0 when the ump isnt blind and affects the game by less than 1 run.

Are now 2-5 when the ump's calls affect the game by more than 1 run.

Looking at the favoring... the Jays have had calls go their way in 7 games and are 6-1. (some caveats apply, last nights favoring was 0.03 runs overall, so basically a wash)

When they arent favored, they are 2-4.

Secondary trend is developing, whenever the run impact is minimal (ie less than .6 of a run overall) that's usually when the calls are in the Jays favor. When the calls are terrible and impact by more than a run, it almost always favors the opponent.

Is it really a 2 hour bus ride from Toronto to Buffalo airport? I haven't done the journey. Sounds like an inconvenience

Even longer if traffic sucks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the Blue Jays bus(ses) is/are pretty f***ing swanky.

This team has been run terribly, Tulo is one of many horrible mistakes they made. At the time they acquired him it was pretty apparent his career was on the down slope and that he was mainly just a product of playing at Coors Field to begin with. Then you have the brilliance of letting Edwin leave because they were too cheap to give him a few more mil. a year, this from a team with one of the highest attendances who could surely have afforded it. Oh, but that same year they came up with 18 mil. for one more season of a clearly washed up Bautista. Then there's the biggest crime of all, who trades away a young fireballer who throws 100 mph for an old knuckleballer? Syndergaard could have been the ace of this franchise for 10 years, instead they got 2 years of Dickey getting shelled including in a few huge AL Championship games. This team was irrelevant for over 20 years and just as they were becoming relevant again management destroyed any chance they had of staying that way.

I believe this might have been your first post. Honestly though, you seem like a very un-fun person to be around; I feel like you probably have very few friends that are willing to put up with this type of attitude if you're this negative in real life. All you do is bitch and moan, and everything the team does it terrible. If you think the Bluejays are so poorly run why don't you pick a different team to root for?

Or if you're so smart why don't you join one of the forum's dynasty leagues? Should be a walk in the park eh? Be able to show us all up.

The only part true is the Dickey part. And everyone on this board was pissed off when that trade was made.

No Springer

Not overly surprising given how he can barely stay on his feet after whiffing at the plate. It looks like something in his lower half is bothering him, whether it's his quad or knee either way it's not overly encouraging.

Bunch of idiots for even playing him last game. Like everyone could see he wasn't right...

Hindsight judgements are always fun.

But, since the start of your so called evidence of the team being poorly run, they've made the playoffs 3 times in 8 seasons. That's hardly evidence of a team being poorly run.

Yes, there has been several instances of bad trades and/or signings and/or letting guys walk. What makes that unique to the Jays? go back 10 years and every single team in virtually every major sport will have examples of that.

If all you're gonna do is whine and bitch about those instances, regardless of the actual success on the field, and never giving credit for the incredibly successful trades, signings and guys being let go for that same team, then all youre doing is being a f***ing moron. Cherry-picking on only bad decisions without acknowledging the absolute successes that deserve credit (and honestly with the jays over the past 10 seasons, there's far more of those than the failures) then all you look like is a whiny petulant child.

Name another team that traded nothing but a s***** left handed reliever got back Cy Young winner AND had that team throw in cash? Name another team that traded a struggling 33 year old lefty reliever for a playable bench piece PLUS a starting right fielder who would be a 2 time silver slugger winner within 3 years? Go back further in that trade to how they even obtained that reliever and how he actually contributed well as a starter before losing it and it's even more impressive.

In short, you're a f***ing buffoon pretending to have knowledge, when all you do is whine about the negatives without acknowledging the positives. You know what those people are called? Pricks. f***heads. Babies. Insufferable ****s. Bellyacher, crybaby, grumbler, moaner, sniveller, squawker, whiner. Take your pick.

You think you're so brilliant but you couldnt carry anyone else on this board's jockstrap when it comes to general baseball knowledge, let alone the Blue Jays.

This could be nothing, but the fact that everyone is pretending Springer is fine and just needs another day while his injury is suddenly being referred to as a "wrist injury" after it was only called a "forearm contusion" up until now is concerning to me.

I hope that's just some weird inconsequential inconsistency in their phrasing or something because a wrist issue seems a lot more concerning than a booboo on your forearm.

This is really bad timing too, because last year he missed the Houston series due to injury and he probably had it circled on his calendar again this year.

I’m almost certain he’ll push management to let him start Saturday or Sunday even if he can barely swing.

Lets hope he’s still just sore from the HBP and good to go Saturday/Sunday and that he doesn’t injure himself further.

The organization has a long standing history of intentional obfuscation when it comes to hiding player injuries so it's only natural that we become concerned when injuries magically find themselves moving from one area of a players body to another. I can't help but think back to the immortal words of J.P. Ricciardi when he stated how "it's not a lie if we know the truth" when BJ Ryan's back injury mysteriously morphed into an arm injury.

So Joey Bats had a monster last season on the Jays? I think he hit .203 with 18 HRs for that 18 mil.
