5 starts = SSS

Manoah's entire MLB career only spans 21 starts at this point, so in a certain sense 5 starts for him is a significant sample of his overall body of work. At any rate it's entirely defensible to be excited about the young man's potential given how effective he's been so far.

They look like they have no chance in hell of being on target, but so far they've been on target, even for the most ridiculous plays.

He's looked phenomenal defensively this season so far (with the glaring caveat of the tiniest of sample sizes...)

Way too many errant throws.

2 of his 1st 3 throws to first last night were horrible.

In a sport that tracks almost everything it would be interesting to know what % of BOs throws to first require Vladdy to leave the base/off target. i bet it is top 5 in MLB for SS.

How terrible was Collins' debut? Waiting for fastballs... gets them fed to him and whifs disgustingly.

Him, Tilapia and Biggio should all be on home run jacket duty from here on out.

Yesterday's Ump Scorecard:

Utterly aweful, but still ended up favoring Toronto somehow. Called strikes were only 83% accurate.

Spanky could call a better game after chugging his breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I guess 2 months wasn't that much of a stretch.

Sounds similar to the Kirk injury last year

If Jansen has to miss a month or two, then just call up Moreno now. The Jays missed the playoffs by one game last season so they should know pretty well that every win matters. Moreno is already better than Collins and the minor league guy who played yesterday. Just do it and worry about the service time implications later.

it would be the dumbest thing in the world to call him up now if that meant losing a year of control, vs. waiting for like one more week

Keep in mind that Moreno got a late start to the spring. They may want him to complete 'spring training' in AAA before he comes up. Not sure how long he has to stay down to gain another year of control, but I agree, we can't be starting Collins or Tyler Heineman.

What changes did they make to service time that precluded a lot of the top prospects making the opening day roster? Does that affect Moreno too?

If you play 100% of the season and end up winning certain awards at the end of the year the team gets a bonus draft pick in a comp round.

I think top 2 in ROY voting win picks for their teams. Also making the first all star team, or placing high enough in other major awards voting.

Moreno not eligible now

So might as well f*** with him labourly for an extra year of slave driving ownership of his corporeal body and spirt

Moreno just got back from visa problems, no way they bring him up as early as now, not to mention the value they'd be throwing out the window as Laika has alluded to.

So are you stating that the Club could bring up Moreno in a week and not lose that year of control? IF so, then YES, bring him up in a week. Jays are REALLY weak at catcher and they have the means of improving it, then damn it, do it.

Many made arguments last year that Manoah was not ready. Well, that worked out. From everything I have read, Moreno looks to be ready to continue to polish his game and it might actually help if it were against better competition.

I mean they could send him down again after Jansen comes back to limit his days on the big league roster, but sure waiting a week (as long as Kirk starts at catcher like 90% of the time until then) is fine too. Although I forgot that Moreno didn't have much of a spring training, so yes probably better off to give him some reps in the minors to get some work in first.

That's honestly laughable at how much of an impact these umps have had in just 5 games based on terrible pitch calling.

More than 9 runs

Biggio has to be hurt. He's getting no burn despite Tapia, Zimmer, and 5th string catchers being his only competition for playing time. On a quick glance, looks like has has 2 HR in 15 AB's against Cole (only hitting .200 though).

Why can Kirk only catch 3/5 games?? Why not majority of the games with a rest day once a week like every other MLB starting catcher

Posted
The problem with that plan is that Ross Stripling sucks

Well hopefully he only gets a start vs Oakland and not a better offensive team like Houston/Boston

Taking one look at the way the guy is built can help you answer that question for yourself. He's already experienced hip issues so no sense in pushing him too hard and ending up injured. If you think the Jays catching situation looks grim now imagine what that would look like if Kirk were to go down with injury.

Probably going to DH a lot still. Plus he's fat.

Lookin like Moreno might be up before most of us expected then

Charlie gotta make sure everybody gets a start. Doesn't want to piss off the parents of these kids.

Vlad now leads the league in home runs, which is absolutely shocking.

The one we all predicted was Adam Cimber leading the league in wins.
