I like the trade. Tapia will add a nice dynamic on the field and in the clubhouse, plus we get a lottery ticket. The question remains on how much we're sending back.

Why is everyone worried that Tapia will be the primary left fielder versus righties? He's not taking significant AB's away from Gurriel. He'll start 2-3 times a week and be used late in games. He's basically a healthy Pompey.

Shatkins had some bad misses, but that goes with any front office. The Shatkins regime is good at drafting / IFA signings. Other than that, there's really not much to be desired, average at best.

What about the 6.7 fWAR they plucked out of thin air for the rotation last year and gave up nothing to get it?

How about the multiple time silver slugger they have out in RF and batting clean upthat they gave up nothing to get?

I'd say for the most part they have been pretty good at trades too.

Even just some of the little trades like getting this Espinal guy for Steve Pearce...

lol... gruber's dumn.

Grichuk has been almost a full win better than Tapia.

Grichuk has 0.1 WAR

Tapia gets too many at bats, but he's not the problem, and neither is Randal f***ing Grichuk being gone the problem.

The problem is:

Kirk - 98 wRC+

Bichette - 95 wRC+

Chapman - 85 wRC+

Gurriel - 74 wRC+

Teo - 45 wRC+

oh, and a league worst batting with RISP

Randall f***ing Grichuk....come on, gimme a f***ing break.

You want to go over all of the dumb s*** that Shatkins has done? Go have another beer and change your sweatpants while your at it.

Says the greasy f***... I see you didn't reply to those comments, simply because you were owned.

I didn't say Tapia isn't a problem

I said he's not THE problem.

There is a difference.

If those other guys I listed weren't hitting like s*** nobody would give two f***s about Tapia or Grichuk

I've mentioned those guys being THE problem, several times on this forum, just saying Tapia IS a problem as well.

Well then we agree.

The thing is, if you get rid of Tapia it doesn't fix the Jays right now.

If those other hitters start hitting the way they have in the past, that does fix the Jays right now.

That's my point. Too much whining about Grichuk and Tapia, they are just a minor problem here.

Tapia wouldn't be nearly as big of an issue if he were only starting a few times a week instead of basically being a full time regular.

Injuries to Teo and LGJ plus load management for Springer has us seeing far too much of him. Dude's well below replacement level, cut bait and bring up Biggio, imo.

Hilarious. Grichuk now rockin' a 94 wRC+ and regressing to what we saw every year. You can set your clock by it.

OTOH Tapia far worse than I imagined, and what I imagined wasn't great.

A s***** slap bat that can't not K to a 21% clip who was supposed to be an amazing contact hitter. The f***ing guy has 140 PAs and a 49 wRC+ for a team thats billed to be challenging for a World Series ring. This is on the FO. Couldn't get Ramirez so this is our LHH? He isn't a very good defender and he isn't even that fast (64th percentile).

Please go away Tapia. Make the move ASAP. Glad Biggio is up but last night he looked eerily like the start of '22 at the plate. Hope he gets it together.

People that supported Grichuk were realists. That he was a serviceable 4th OF and the issue was he was getting too many ABs. Either solve the problem, or leave it alone. Don’t make it worse. They chose the latter

A best league average bat would’ve been a nice plus these two months. Hell, we could’ve used that real hot steak and then recently when he’s been garbage, he’d fit right it

Pre-2019 Grichuk would have been a nice 4th OF, but the 2019-present version is replacement level. He's not good. The problem is the Jays replaced a replacement level 4th OF with what could be the worst player in the sport this season, so it makes Grich look better than he really is by comparison.

Someone like Joc Pederson would have been a nice replacement for Grichuk as he hits LH and can pretend to be a CF in case of emergency. Hell, Tapia is so bad that Gardner turning down the Jays offer kind of stings now.

Regression to the mean is happening.

Tapia now at -.5

Grichuk now at -.1

This is quite the interesting race to follow, to see who "won" the trade.

Adrian Pinto has a 122 wRC+ in A ball at age 19. He's still an intriguing prospect.

It's very unlikely that Adrian Pinto will ever be as punchable as Pedroia.
