connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 If FF signs, the missed secret sign will be the IG update in January, not Carlos B

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 What type of deal do we think Schwarber is going to get? I'm starting to prepare myself for someone other than Freeman. 3 years $40M?

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Who cares what they want You’ll care when Vlad doesn’t want to sign an extension
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 You’ll care when Vlad doesn’t want to sign an extension It also matters to Freeman, lol. Term swung and missed there.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Clearly a bunch of MLB the Show Dynasty builders going on here
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Trade for Ramirez AFTER you sign Freeman you idiots. That way they will be none the wiser and after we win back-to-back WS I think everyone will be just fine with DHing once in a while.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Neither FF or Vld wants any part of a DH platoon I dont think i've read anything that says either player would be opposed to it. It's a reasonable assumption though that a player who normally plays the field would want to continue to play the field. But it's also a reasonable assumption that if you have already traded for J-Ram, Freeman looks a the lineup and says "yes please" and Vlad looks at a possible lineup with both J-ram and Freeman and says "Dime cuándo estar en el estadio de béisbol"

I suspect Vlad is proud of his ability to be a solid infielder after all. He worked very hard at it. I would think he likely cares very much about being allowed to play a position going forward. (I don't know this obviously, I'm presuming) 2. These pre-arb guys know they'll get paid way more in arb and free agency if they play a position well rather than being a "1B/DH platoon guy"

I think Vlad ... his bat is special enough that whether he plays 1b exclyusively, 1b/DH, 1b/3b/DH, he's gonna get paid.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 I think he gets way more than that. 4 years 60 mil at least. Call me crazy, but I think I'd rather have Schwarber for 4 years $60M than Freeman for 6 years $180M. We would get Schwarber's prime years and I think think there's a solid chance that Schwarber's bat (wRC+) is better than Freeman's over the next 4 years. I think Freeman's wRC+ is closer to the 135 range it was in 2018, 2019 and 2021 than the 186 it was in the shortened 2020. I think Schwarber is a lot closer to a 140 wRC+ hitter now that pitchers can't use spider tack and will further benefit from the shift rules (if implemented). Schwarber is much more likely to be OK with DH'ing and he can play (poorly) in the outfield or at 1st if we need to give Springer or Vlad the day off - or get Kirk some at bats at DH. Sign Schwarber and spend the rest of the money elsewhere.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Sign Schwarber, trade for Ramirez, platoon Biggio and Espinal at 2B And sign a couple more good relievers please. I have no interest in watching the bullpen piss away another season.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Yeah, Schwarber + a 3B (not named Villar) is a much more sensible idea than signing Freeman. Of course the issue with that is the FA 3B market sucks, so they'll have to lose some assets in order to get Ramirez (if available/realistic) or Chapman (definitely available but at what cost?) in that scenario. This lineup with Ramirez and Schwarber added to it is fap worthy.

A Freeman contract probably looks great for the first half and could turn ugly in the last few years. Offense hasn’t really been a weak point for this club and I think the money is better spent elsewhere
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 I have a feeling we can get Moose for absolutely nothing. I'd be curious about getting Senzel and Moose together in package. I also don't think Chapman will cost us all that much. I don't love the idea of adding him and Schwarber, who both strike out over 27% of the time - but it's still a plausible option. I also wonder where the Moreno to 3rd base sits and if that's a real possibility.

jerb Verified Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Blue Jays currently view their chances on Schwarber as better than their chances on Freeman, sources tell @TheAthletic. The competition for Schwarber, though, remains intense, with Phillies and others in the mix.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Considering the acquisition and opportunity costs, I’d rather trade for Chapman + sign Schwarber than sign FF.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Sounds like most are down to sign Schwarbar and trade for Chapman/Ramirez. It totally seems like the logical move as Schwarber + Chapman/Ramirez combined will earn less over the next 2 years than Freeman.
