connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I think it boils down to if you’re the only venue in the country doing something (NYC), it’s probably not about the science anymore
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 C'mon guys... You're killing me here.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 C'mon guys... You're killing me here. I need an explanation man lol. Should it not be pointed out that there’s only 2 places with this policy in place for mlb?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Laila is stuck back in time 2 months ago. In the US, even the “other party” has basically admitted while vaccines reduce transmission, it’s still going to happen and so it’s time to learn to live with it. So NYC is like the last unicorn at this point

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I need an explanation man lol. Should it not be pointed out that there’s only 2 places with this policy in place for mlb? I don't really care. That's not a determinative argument; it's very possible for lots of places to have inferior policies. Like, the drinking age is 21 everywhere in the USA. That's f***ing stupid as f***.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Anyways, I don’t know how Canada works but even if you subscribe to Laila’s POV, the NY policy doesn’t make sense where you can pack the stands but a guy can’t play bb. It’s really “mentally challenged”
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I need an explanation man lol. Should it not be pointed out that there’s only 2 places with this policy in place for mlb? Pointing it out is fine, drawing conclusions about why is where it was across the line. I was going to (barely) leave it when it was just one message, but the followup message was where it went too far IMO.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Admission - I don't even know what the policies are. I have not read them. I have not even read this whole thread.

It's a valid talking point, but I would like this thread to discuss the on the field implications of the vaccine policies rather than the validity of the policies themselves.

In the US, even the “other party” has basically admitted while vaccines reduce transmission, it’s still going to happen and so it’s time to learn to live with it. So NYC is like the last unicorn at this point Since I apparently can't just delete things without an explanation... I vehemently disagree that "it's time to learn to live with it". I consider that an offside post in this thread because were this a different forum without the "no politics" rule, I would be getting into an argument over this point. The whole point of the rule is to try and stop long arguments on points that aren't strictly related to baseball, and when my instinct is to argue with a post, it's more constructive in this setting to delete the post (because I'm not special, so if I would argue a point, it stands to reason that others, not necessarily a majority or anything, would also try to start an argument about a post.) Try to consider that your viewpoint may not be the same as that of everyone else (this is not directed at connorp, but at everyone), and if it COULD possibly start an argument about something not strictly baseball related, please just don't post it.

Yeah but it clearly crosses over. As someone said, and I know you hate the casual’s POV, people want to see Aaron Judge man. I know some girl that laid about $400 for seats to a Jazz game hoping to see Lebron and he didn’t play. She was pissed. Different circumstances of course
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I caused a mess here with my perfectly correct post so I will bow out now and not touch the subject again.

I get the rules and I’m just good at toeing the line. I’m not saying it’s my viewpoint, I’m saying it’s a fact that the federal government has now adopted a strategy to learn to live with it. Which in turn ostracizes the NYC rule That’s my final word as I’m about to do a 2 hr drive for work!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 My kid picked up the virus in December from her school. My wife, triple vaxxed, and myself, double vaxxed at the time, did not get it. We were all tested and all of us live in the same house, meals and games together, etc. Anecdotal bu I have no doubt if we were not vaxxed it would probably have been fatal to my immune compromised wife. She’s had 4 jabs now btw.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Taking a neutral stance here and hope it doesn't come off as too political. Most people I know who got COVID were double or triple vaxxed. Some of my family members who are triple jabbed caught and spread COVID amongst each other. The vaccine doesn't prevent the spread of COVID so a lot of these policies in place don't make much sense. Again, I couldn't care if people or players are vaxxed or unvaxxed and I'm not taking a side on either. It's their own personal choice. But from what we have seen this past winter, anyone can catch and spread COVID. An athlete like Aaron Judge, who is healthy and in fantastic shape is at zero risk essentially. Like is he a threat or danger to all the other players on the field and in the clubhouse? How about those vaxxed players who after the game go out to bars and for dinner, etc.? Aren't they interacting amongst unvaxxed individuals outside of the ballpark? Again, not taking a pro stance for either side, but these policies just don't make sense. Aaron Judge has had Covid so has some immunity (he could get it again, just like a vaxed person can get it), is presumably tested all the time, would be tested twice as much if he came to Canada and would be confined to his room. People are making a flawed argument. If there was some player, that was completely Covid naive, not being tested for Covid, allowed to go out on the town, would that guy be a danger to the community? Probably. Some guy, has had Covid, tested every day, confined to his room, and all at risk people in the community double boosted. Is that guy a risk to the community?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I just asked newly reacquired #Yankees 1B Anthony Rizzo about current mandates that unvaccinated players can’t play in NY and Toronto. He talked last year about not getting shots but answered this time, “That shouldn’t be a problem.” Looks like he is vaccinated. If he isn't and is expecting vaccine mandates to be abolished before opening day, I hope he realizes that NYC mandates are different than Canadian federal rules. It's very possible that NYC mandates will be revoked but the Canadian ones stay

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Who made these f***ing rules anyway
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 NYC likely will drop those mandates before Opening Day, so he'll be able to play home games. The city already scrapped their vaccine passport system and even masks mandates as well. A lot of these Democrat states are scrapping everything because the Midterms approaching this fall. Canada is a different story however. I could see the Federal Government dropping mandates maybe at some point in May/June since a lot of countries now, even the UK removed all restrictions to enter. So at some point, Canada will have to follow.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Yeah I did read NYC is likely scrapped. That probably explains Rizzo’s answer as well.

I do not want to have to close this thread, I think it has value, but I will. Disrespectful posts should not be allowed, that's fine. However respectful discussion of whether baseball players should be mandated to take the vaccine is an issue which will effect the Blue Jays W/L? Fair game I would hope. I agree Boxcar didn't read Laika's post. Laika said 'If the vaccine only reduces cases by 20% it's still worth it', not that he knew for sure the number is 20%. On the other hand a hypothetical vaccine that is 20% effective and had some side effects might not be even be approved. And the question as to whether it should be mandated would get trickier. The vaccine causes a small number of heart issues, however Covid causes a greater number of heart issues (remember Eduardo Rodriquez). If vaccine is 95% effective cost/benefit on the side of the vaccine. If the vaccine is 20% effective cost/benefit could change. I don't know the exact numbers, just that if efficacy goes down from 95% to 20% cost benefit changes.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 Just close the thread, Deadpool. I tried my best. I should have known it would turn into this.
