If I don’t get vaccinated, I don’t go into work and would get terminated from my job. C’est la vie. I protect myself and others with no real harm. Sorry if this part of my comment is too political.

All that said, it is interesting to think about the advantage this gives you he jays with the amount of all stars that are unvaccinated. Does this give the jays an edge?

Honest question - how does the vaccine protect others if you still get the virus?

Thats not too political. You are just stating facts.

He's not stating facts. It's too political and should be deleted. Otherwise we are in the situation where some political posts are OK (if you are on a certain side) but presenting data to refute that side isn't OK.

It's a complicated discussion, which the board has chosen not to dive into. That should mean all vaccine related posts are deleted, not just anti-mandate posters (I haven't seen many on the board who are anti-vax, a lot of vaxed but anti-mandate posters here, but they aren't allowed to speak, so pro-mandate posts should also be deleted).

Your post should be deleted too. And mine. No politics means no politics, unless the rule is 'no politics to the right of Trudeau'

I am fully vaxed and got Covid from another fully vaxed person. I'm just a sample size of 1, but given the size of the Winter wave, even in highly vaxed places it's obviously spreading among vaxed.

It's a complicated discussion... if the board isn't having vaccine discussions that's fine, but all the pro-mandate posts should be deleted too.

Well, this isn’t political as it’ll be interesting if baseball follows through as the other sports have. Vaccines may be great for preventing death and serious illness, but not transmission. So they need to stop with the bs of canceling games bc 2 trainers on a team test positive

Christian Arroyo has also been vaxxed. Did so during the lockout. “It was the right thing.”

I have to think over the winter a significant percentage of the hold-outs got the shot. Does Canada still count one shot of J&J ??

It's a rough vaccine for some, and I can see why an athlete may not have wanted to get it mid-season.

To my knowledge, Canada never approved the J&J vaccine, but DID approve the AZ vaccine (which the US did not). I'm not sure about the ability to cross the border with each, but I imagine they would do what they could to accommodate people crossing the border for work (which would include ballplayers) if they have some form of protection

I'm not deleting that post because it was an inarguable fact, not an opinion (political or otherwise). He didn't say "I agree/disagree with the stance my company is taking", which would be pushing it closer to the line.

I have been deleting posts on both sides of the issue. I will continue to do so.

How is saying they should stop testing asymptomatic people political? Other leagues have gone that way

Mlb games were getting canceled last year when any employee tested positive

That is… not true.

I will not put any money on my memory, that’s for sure. But I thought there were trainers on teams that tested positive and they canceled games

I’m not going to dive into it too much but first Google search article brought up

Major League Baseball's season just past the halfway mark, and more than 40 games have been postponed due to positive coronavirus cases. Five teams have had at least one player or staff member test positive during the season, and both the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals have dealt with team-wide outbreaks.

That would suggest my OP wasn’t inaccurate

That was 2020 but there were instances last year where one player and someone in the “traveling party” had it and situations like that. It was definitely an over cautious approach that hopefully gets abandoned as the other leagues have started to do

Because it is an opinion on how to handle this that many people would disagree with, and the goal of deleting potentially "political" posts is to avoid devolving into people bickering about points like that. I personally disagree with your opinion (and I chose to delete it rather than engage on the subject, but you're bringing it back up and questioning the decision so now I have to address why I believe that is a post that will not contribute to this thread in a positive way.)

Generally, the rules I'm following (I cannot speak for other mods here) is "if a point/comment being made could derail the thread, it should be pruned before that derailing happens."

Is it opinion or fact that it's really f***ing annoying to have to keep talking about this stuff?

PS I once joined this other fan forum which also purportedly banned opinionated talk on Covid/vaccines whatever. What happened in practice is that it was cool to call someone a selfish ******* if they don't get the jab and that they are killing grandma, but posts that said things like "maybe the vaccine isn't as effective as it's portrayed to be" got deleted with a warning.

As mods, I know it's not easy to remove your own personal bias from deciding which posts are appropriate, so I just want to say you're doing a very good job here, Brando

That is a fact, I think everyone would love it if we never had to talk about this s*** again...

Thanks man. I don't think my political leanings are a secret to anyone around these parts, but I'm doing my best to be even handed. :)

Coming from a guy who was deeply immersed in the politics section of this forum, they are making the right move here to limit the political talk. Everywhere else I go on the net is absolutely poisoned with partisan politics and various recent world events. This is the one place that is truly devoid of that.

Just like you could say people's political opinions are being muzzled, you could also say people's right to ESCAPE from politics and focus on Jays/baseball are being trampled on if it went too much in the free speech direction.

I felt some heavy snark there. Maybe I’m not being fair to Boxy though. After King beautifully welcomed him back into the herd, perhaps he’s turned a new leaf

I considered the possibility that it was snark, but I choose to take it has typed!

Case in point. The quickly developing war between ties versus ghostrunner is a much better Lord of the Flies scenario for this forum than anything politically charged right now.

How in God's name did you read snark? I was trying to commend a mod I don't often agree with on doing a stellar job on being even handed and not too strict since the topic at hand is a bit of a powder keg. Page 6 and this thread has been completely uneventful and informative. That doesn't happen organically, unfortunately, and even more impressively, no one is even really complaining of bias very loudly at all. The scenario I laid out wasn't an exaggeration. Hell, a mod even chipped in with one of those takes. I have travelled the internet looking for a new home and even though baseball has almost certainly permanently pissed me off, I can say with a good deal of confidence that there isn't a forum community out there quite like this one and when the mods do a good job, they deserve praise. The lesson is that we should all be grateful for this board and not take it for granted.

I also had a kid so maybe you're right about the new leaf thing, not saying it so I can have my balls gargled en masse but it may be relevant to why I may be less of an *******, though this theory has not been peer reviewed.
