Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Contreras looked like he had some good numbers last year, is only 24, and over a full season would have put up more WAR than Murphy. Is this a real big upgrade for them? Murphy >> Contreras Contreras had batted ball luck in 2021. More importantly, he is a negative defensively, whereas Murphy is excellent defensively.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Okay the Braves also sent Royber Salinas to Oakland Looks like a 70 FB 60 CB relief prospect, maybe two years away. Fangraphs says 40 FV. That makes it a bit better for Oakland, they get another lottery ticket arm.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I think so Ruiz has like, 6th percentile max EV. He's a slap hitter! Am I reading this correctly that Ruiz stole 86 bases in 2022 between AA/AAA/MLB? f*** me! With 16 HRs and a K% <20%. I have to think most of the scouting reports on him are outdated as they seem to reference this guy with a K% in the high 20's. This still feels like a below average return for Oakland, but there has to be some upside in this Ruiz guy.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I bet he goes to the Padres
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Vazquez is the last obstacle in the way of the Jays catcher trade, so hopefully he signs tonight and gets it over with. Edit: Vazquez going to the Twins.

MON4NHLTOR4MLB Verified Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Good. We need the musical chairs with catchers to end and see who’s left needing one
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 They have this weird thing where they NEED to get MLB ready players in the deal Oh come on man don't be obtuse. The A's made out like bandits with Brett Lawrie and Kevin Smith as major league ready pieces in the Donaldson and Chapman trades.
MON4NHLTOR4MLB Verified Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 So what’s the catcher market look like now and who needs one?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Wow - didn't expect Vasquez to get a 3 year deal. Catchers are valued!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Ross Atkins is going to pull off a HEIST with Danny Jansen
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 So what’s the catcher market look like now and who needs one? Based on earlier rumors, the Astros, Guardians, and Cubs are probably the most likely suitors. D-Backs probably won't make a deal for Jansen, and not sure if the Padres are a match trade-wise even though they have a clear need.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 That's a real interesting trade. Those rumours of Oakland's ask on Murphy had to be ********, I think.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Unless William Contreras suddenly becomes available There it is ... You didn't set that up? Haha... good call.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I see now, interesting deal.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Murphy >> Contreras Contreras had batted ball luck in 2021. More importantly, he is a negative defensively, whereas Murphy is excellent defensively. Jim is correct.

With those 3 teams mentioned let’s take Jansen out of the equation and add Kirk. What do you guys think would be a truly fair ask in return for 5 years of an All-Star catcher who is viewed as one of the best low strike zone receiver catchers with potential of .300 type hitter What could each of those teams offer in return! True fair value deal as I think he has the best big haul potential that teams would want!
