The Mets have officially signed the defending AL Cy Young winner, announcing Wednesday evening they’ve inked Justin Verlander to a two-year contract with a vesting option for 2025. It’s reportedly an $86.66MM guarantee, and if Verlander pitches 140 innings in 2024, he will have a $35MM player option for 2025. Verlander will make $43.33MM in each of the two guaranteed years of the deal and has a full no-trade clause.

Do the Brewers have anything we would want that they would realistically part with?

I heard they have a big 1B that's a lefty bat :)

Sal Frelick for Jansen - get it done Atkins.

Garrett Mitchell would also be an option, but I'm not sold he's going to be a ML regular (although he has big upside and the risk might be why he'd be available).

Damn AA just got a good reliever for a couple slap dick prospects.

Some teams can do that and some teams can trade their Clean up hitter for a good reliever.

OK I'm done for today lol.

Oakland ask for Murphy was Lars Nootbaar, Brendan Donovan, and Gordon Graceffo. Jansen talks were centered around Helsley or Nootbaar.

So Nootbaar might've been off the table and no deal done without him; they went for Contreras

Very encouraging to see the FO seeking this return.

The Athletics sought a return of outfielder Lars Nootbaar, Gold Glove-winner Brendan Donovan, and a power young pitcher like Gordon Graceffo in exchange for Murphy and three years of control, according to a source with knowledge of the talks. The Cardinals received a lot of interest in Nootbaar. He was also coveted by Toronto in talks about a trade for catcher Danny Jansen. The Cardinals and Toronto also discussed deals centered around a closer, with some discussion of Ryan Helsley, a source described.

The Cardinals have little interest in trading Nootbaar, who Marmol called an “everyday outfielder” entering 2023 and was among the league-leaders in walk rate, on-base percentage, and runs created in the second half of the season.

When a late round of talks with Oakland flagged because the asking price didn’t appear likely to shift, the Cardinals pivoted to Contreras and their feel for the offer he coveted.

"The same thing happened in the trade market, where they and the Cardinals both held their ground, prompting St. Louis to sign Contreras instead of trading for Danny Jansen or Oakland’s Sean Murphy. One industry source believes the Cardinals never engaged on outfielders Lars Nootbar and Dylan Carlson and tried to make a deal with closer Ryan Helsley instead."

2 years of Jansen for 3 of Helsley is awfully tempting.

I think it was a given Jays have hd in depth discussions with most teams about trades. These guys are all probably spending 16 hours a day this time of year just kicking a bunch of s*** around all day w/each other and with agents

It’s all what teams teams do and what they’ll circle back to I guess.

I would have done that deal. Helsley would be a huge get. I can’t believe that was available.

Holy f*** what is this off-season.

Holy christ Padres seem determined to spend money like drunken sailors. They are like last years Rangers who proudly proclaimed they intended to spend stupid money. At least the Padres have a very solid team as a starting point though.

As some of the more obvious trade partners and FA drop off, there’s nothing wrong with an occasional worrisome groan. Get over it. No doubt they’re out there trying but no guarantee for a lot of reasons. Takes two to tango with everything

Just another example… like nobody think Boegarts for 11 years is a good deal…it’s like a 4 year tax you have to pay to sign anyone good

I hope all the big spenders tie 25M+ over 10+ years to middle infielders this off-season. This might help reduce Bo's options in a couple of years.

People shift positions. Don’t count on it

If Bogaerts is getting 11 years and 280 mil what is Correa getting? Correa is a full two years younger than Bogaerts.

Correa will get 10 or 11 at 35 million probably. This offseason is wonderful
