Chaim Bloom is terrible. I can't think of a single thing he's done other than drafting Whitlock in the Rule 5 that was any good. I guess signing Kike who had a nice 2021. Other than that he's whiffed on almost everything else.

Not sure why he gave the Yankees a sweetheart deal considering the fans booed him in the playoffs. And Cashman trashed him for not accepting an extension in Spring.

 

Would have loved to see him leave that organization in complete shambles.

- got things started by trading future HoFer Mookie Betts for Alex Verdugo and garbage

- traded Jeffrey Springs for Ronaldo Hernandez, since DFA'd

- traded Hunter Renfroe for JBJ and trash, JBJ since DFA'd

- traded Benintendi for trash

- won't get anything for JD Martinez

- won't get anything except a comp pick for Eovaldi

- Bogaerts probably walking via FA

- gave Trevor Story 140M even though he doesn't play SS anymore

- have spent 50M on two 35+ relievers this offseason despite having a terrible lineup and rotation

 

Under 0.500 in two of his three seasons, and probably again in 2023.

Sucks that he went to the Cardinals since that takes a trade suitor away from the Jays, but at least now we should see some movement on the catching market. Murphy will get moved, and then the Jays should have a better idea of what's available to them via trade.

My guess is Sean Murphy likely goes to the Guardians since they have enough prospect capital to get it done.

 

So that leaves Astros, DBacks, & Marlins competing for one of our catchers. Red Sox and Rays have a need, but I doubt we trade inter-division.

Nothing was going to happen with any catcher via trade until Contreras signed. Now it's basically Sean Murphy and the Jays catchers as the best options so something should happen soon.

 

Although I agree that Jansen is not going to get the type of return he's probably worth, and I don't think Atkins is going to trade Kirk or Moreno.
