I know we won't get him but lol

One never knows. Didn't the Jays try to sign Bo long term last off season and it went nowhere?

Trade Bo, sign Bogey is a very remote possibility of course.

There’s a chance they pull a Semien with someone

Xander isn't coming off a down year though looking for a show me contract like Semien was?

Not sure if that's what you meant.

I like Bo and all, but I would be fine with trading him for something we need if they can sign Bogaerts or Correa. A high end MLB SP or a young CF with control perhaps?

Well Semien was a good shortstop who was not getting high end offers because the market was thick. And teams don’t like to guarantee 30 year old shortstops the position forever.

I just mean one of these guys could sign a pillow deal and play second base. Or a longer term 2B deal like Story.

Toronto basically has 2B open. Three internal options but all of them could be dealt or used as bench players.

I don’t think trading Bo is something they want to think about doing

The thought of adding another bat like that is sure fun, but with Espinal/Merrifield and possibly even Barger in the mix, sure seems like they'd be better off addressing the OF or starting rotation with that type of money. But WAR added is WAR added I guess.

None of us knows what is going on behind the scenes (other than snippets in the media here and there), which is why baseball offseason always has several surprises.

Signing Bo and Vladdy long term is top of mind for the Jays FO, and if they see the chance of signing Bo long term as quite unlikely, then along with the "run prevention" mantra could lead to a surprise.

No one saw Fernandez / McGriff coming.

Speaking of McGriff:

Fred McGriff Elected To Baseball Hall Of Fame

By Mark Polishuk | December 4, 2022 at 7:14pm CDT

Longtime first baseman Fred McGriff was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the only player elected out of the eight nominees under consideration by the 16-person Era Committee. McGriff was a unanimous vote, getting votes from all 16 members.

Twelve votes were required for selection, and of the other seven names on the ballot, Don Mattingly came closest with eight votes. Curt Schilling received seven votes, Dale Murphy six votes, and the other candidates (Albert Belle, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Rafael Palmeiro) each got fewer than four votes.

Some BS that Schilling is getting the shaft.

Shameful. Taking into account character in terms or criminal/wife beater etc is one thing, punishing for political affiliation is really bad

Come on. Stuff= Transphobia. The Muslim thing was referring to terrorists I believe. Anyways, point stands it’s lame to penalize someone for having opinions against the woke grain, even if certain people find it distasteful

This about covers it.

He prefaced the Muslim comment with “Extreme”. I think it is ok to describe those who fly planes into office buildings extreme.

He has an opinion about bathrooms.. I guess you are not allowed to express it. He lost his ESPN job and that is their right.

Hall of Fame should be on merit unless your are a serious criminal or pedophile etc.

90% of the country agrees with one statement and at least 50% plus with the other. Yet he is getting cancelled from the HOF

Yeah no crazy opinions. If he went Kanye West, I’d get it. But those stances are a half/half thing at worst.

Such ********! Everyone has demons. EVERYONE. His opinions are open to a lot of people. And I don't necessarily agree with him, but I'm sure many in the hall have similiar opinions. So unless you want an interview with all potential hall of famers to get their view on these topics, then everyone should shut the f*** up. He was one of the best pitchers in the game and should be recognized as such. If not, the hall of fame is a joke!

Nah it’s about more than that

And also about the how. The intent. The “character” to use the HOfs language.

That’s against the American core of impartiality. Shouldn’t be

Speaking of all that, when will they wrap up the Bauer decision? It’ll be interesting who signs him once LAD inevitably cuts him. Red Sox? Fans would accept him as long as he’s good

Carlos Baerga apparently reporting that Justin Verlander to the Mets is close to being done: $86.8M for 2 years with a mutual option for a third year.
