Confused about this deal from the Twins perspective. They gave up Garver for Kiner-Falafel only to flip him for Gary Sanchez, who they don’t even plan to keep, but meanwhile they are acquiring Sonny Gray. Which direction do they think they are going?

It looks like they are trying to go cheaper while saving face or making a half-hearted attempt at competing. Something like $40M off the books with these trades.

It actually looks like a solid set of moves IF they get Story. They would end up improving their infield defense and offense, while adding a nice starting pitcher and not increasing payroll a ton. Garver to Sanchez is a downgrade, but they intend to roll with Jeffers as the starter either way.

Out

Garver (~3M)

Donaldson (21M + 29M after 2022)

Petty

In

Urshela (6.5M)

Sanchez (~8M)

Gray (10M + 12M team option)

Peguero

I don't think they're any worse than they were before, and they have better financial flexibility with Donaldson off the books. Maybe also freeing up money for Story?

Do we know why Urshela's power eroded last year? I have to think Minny is hoping the 2019/2020 bat returns, in which case, he'll probably be as valuable as Donaldson at 1/3 the cost

It's a shame to see that one of the league's best young players is made of glass.

That contract is going to be a disaster.

There should be something written into the CBA where if there is a work stoppage in the future, teams and players are still allowed to make contact regarding injuries. Maybe through contact solely with team doctors. Because the fact that this is just getting out now, and this surgery is happening now, and he will miss part of the season when that could have been substantially or entirely avoided, is f***ing ridiculous.

Tatis is a boy. A few weeks ago I saw him stick his head out in a moving car.

The claim that he waited until the lockout was over to get a necessary medical procedure seems a little dubious to me. A non displaced fracture would have partially healed already if it happened in December or something. Anything worse would have been dealt with immediately.

This probably happened in the last couple of weeks and didn't alter his timeline at all. I certainly could be wrong though.

I've had something like this, you don't put things like this off. I had surgery within 2 weeks of the break (and that was in Canada). They have to do it relatively quickly or you come out looking like Quasimodo. It was also one of those 3 month specials.

That's a huge haul for Olsen, guess they didn't have the money for Freeman. Got to believe Freeman is going to the Yanks now.

If the Dodgers want often times the Dodgers get...... I would be shocked right now if he does not go there but good for Freeman to have the 2 biggest markets going after you.

Freddie Freeman’s era with the Braves is likely over. The Yankees and Dodgers have seemingly been the favorites over the past few days. But the Rays and Blue Jays have remained aggressive. There was never a sense the Braves made a strong push.

AA overpays in prospect capital once again

Return feels light to me. Not even a top-100 prospect in the package.

Didn’t TB make an offer before the lockout. Could surprise

I would love to see TB get him (not from a Jays standpoint) but to a Baseball standpoint.
