I have no idea what the Jays will do next. They've got money to spend though, and another legit starter would be nice.

For all I know they are chasing a position player now though.

Ray would look good about now.

Ray

Gausman

Berrios

Manoah

Ryu

With our offense - man that would be a powerhouse.

What are people's thoughts on Gray - it seems odd that his numbers were worse on the road than at Coors. What's up with that?

I looked into his numbers a bit recently and the thing that jumped out was that his fastball was extremely hittable. That doesn't explain how he's worse on the road though as you would expect that his breaking stuff would be more effective away from the thin air in Colorado.

4/54 for Gray. I would have seriously considered that if he were willing to take the same from us.

Yup would have loved him at that price. Hes one good pitching coach away from being fixed.

f*** the Mets

MLBTR ranked Gausman fifth on our list of the winter’s top 50 free agents, and his contract falls a bit shy of our six-year, $138MM projection. However, it appears as though Gausman did leave some money on the table to join the Blue Jays, as SNY’s Andy Martino tweets that the Mets offered Gausman a larger deal than Toronto’s five years and $110MM

The Mets have supposedly offer Scherzer a 3 year $120 million contract. It would be amazing to see him turn that down in favor of returning to the Dodgers for less.

If the Mets do that, it's pretty much a guarantee Mad Max's arm will fall off in 2022. It's the way of the Mets.

lol, he's been a solid #6 for years

He's not been since coming to the AL. His fastball has no movement with average velocity. He's turning into Josh Towers sooner rather than later.

Getting a front line starter was huge for this off season. I'm so glad they got this bit of business done.

Gausman

Berrios

Manoah

Pretty good group to anchor the rotation for the next 5+ years I think

What are your expectations of a 6th starter? Stripling is ideal as a 6th starter, man.

Winning the off season - but AA won the trade deadline and put together a WS team.

I'm happy with Shatkins but just saying - results is results.

Did he turn down more money from the Mets?? If so I love it so much more.

My thoughts exactly. How nice is that to read, after years of Toronto having to overpay everyone.

Also f*** the Mets.

Kind of leaning towards hoping the Jays can get Rodon to sign.

Lots of upside there, and if he misses time then they still have another high upside guy in Pearson waiting to break out behind him.

This ain't the thread for this, but AA didn't build that f***ing team and they if they are any other division they don't even make the f***ing playoffs. I wouldn't go chalking that up in some sort of dreamland AA "win" column. He got lucky more than anything else.

So Dayton Moore is a better gm than Billy Beane? Oh wait you probably do seriously believe that.

Fantastic offseason so far. Now let's go get an impact left-handed bat for the infield and a power arm at the back of the pen.

Still think they should sign Schwarber. Rotate Gurriel, Vlad Jr, and Schwarbs through LF, 1B, and DH. He would be like the perfect #2 hitter to get on base infront of Vlad.

Imagine Springer, Schwarber, and Vlad Jr coming at you in the first inning. All can get on base or go deep in a hurry.

The game is about winning the WS - Atlanta may be in a weak division but it was AA's trades that made them into a WS contender - his team after the trade deadline was significantly better than the first half team - and they won without their best star player. AA built a team that could beat the Astros who beat the top teams in the American League.

Some teams are built to be the best teams in a 162 game season and some teams are built to win a WS when they actually get into the playoffs. One of the reasons I harp on having dominating pitching is because dominating pitching can shut down the best offense.

I think Shatkins is doing a better job in terms of long term success but the goal is winning a WS and yes the Jays are in the AL East and Atlanta is in a weak division - still AA had to build a team that could beat the best teams in the playoffs and they did - and without their franchise player.

AA's dealing in Atlanta covered here https://www.mlb.com/news/braves-2021-trade-deadline-moves-world-series-title

Like I say - I'd still rather Shatkins but credit where credit is due - winning a WS is the ONLY thing that matters - not Billy Beane's oh so close but always the bridesmaid results. Winning and only winning a WS is what counts.

And let's not be too hard on ATL - they won a mere 3 fewer games than the Jays - if the Jays had managed to squeak in and win the WS and beat 100 win teams we would not be saying it was a fluke. It would be because of the good moves by Atkins to land Cimber and Richards and Berrios.

It takes more than great moves to win a world series, it also takes luck. I like AA, but the biggest thing he did was get lucky.

If the Jays are in the NL east and the Braves are in the AL east, we aren't having this conversation.

You are giving AA too much credit, and not giving Shatkins enough credit, all because of a bit of luck.

To play Devil’s advocate, AA built a hell of a relief corps in Atlanta. Enough to absorb the loss of Morton etc and win the WS. We didn’t address our pen sufficiently and cut bait on guys soon enough.

Yeah, and still won more games in a waaaaaay tougher division against waaaaay tougher head to head competition and also swept the Braves last season.

I'm not saying AA didn't do good things. My issue was with the poster coming in saying AA = 1 vs Shatkins = 0 like it's just that simple and that the Braves winning the WS this season makes AA better than Shatkins. It really isn't that simple.

Anyways, like I said when I first responded, this isn't the thread for this discussion. I'll move on.
