Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Not surprised you’d bring positional depth into the debate. Though I’m sure with Vlad, Jays still get the edge with the starters. Will be interesting when we see what Casas is when he comes up Those numbers actually include Casas getting 231 PA and posting a .336 wOBA

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 I hope so but Devers is a stud entering his prime, Chapman is exiting his physical prime and has some holes to fix
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 My brother told me statcast says he would’ve hit 39hr in Fenway. Not sure if true
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Kinda shocked Story was willing to give up Shortstop. Assuming it was the 6 years that got it done. Seemed like the Astros were the perfect fit with him being from Texas and having the clear opening at Shortstop. He definitely makes the Red Sox offense even more scary. Believe the Jays remain the better overall team.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 I have Devers winning MVP. Hard to see them giving it to a guy on a 4th place team.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Red Sox season win total just jumped from 84.5 to 87.5 at my bookie after the Story signing. I had to nibble at that under.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 What was the second tweet? It was saying Story would take a huge discount to play on Rangers So I found out why that second tweet disappeared. It was the Rangers hitting coaches son, opened a Twitter account called MLBDrops and started to break news before Kenny Ken and the rest of them.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Agreed Wish he had gone to SFG I am really surprised he didn't sign a 1-year. I will look this up but he must have an opt-out clause after a year. No way he just signs for 23M AAV.

No way he just signs for 23M AAV. SI.com: Story has an an opt-out after four years. The Red Sox can keep him for a seventh season, which would make the contract $160 million over the seven years. Sportrac: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/trevor-story-18377/ Trevor Story signed a 6 year / $140,000,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox, including $140,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $23,333,333. Player opt-out available after 2025 ($5M buyout) If Story opts-out, the team can opt back in, adding a 7th year (2028) Joel Sherman: @Joelsherman1 Trevor Story’s contract does not contain no trade provisions #RedSox
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Story will nuke Fenway. Not happy about this. I wouldn't bet on it. He could end up proving to be a Coors Field product. Career OPS Home - .972 Away - .752

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 What's holding up a Conforto signing? Take a one year deal dude and bet on yourself. He turned down a 9 digit offer last offseason and's looking for something better, I assume. Good Luck.

Teams probably want him for 2-3 years, or with team options or something and he either wants $100M multi year deal, or a 1 year $20M deal

Git R Done...

I think if there's ever an offseason that it would make sense to lose a pick for a one year deal this is it. The club has several comp picks coming already so losing one wouldn't be as big of a loss. Plus the front office already showed they are willing to lose a draft pick for a one year deal as they were one of the clubs involved in the bidding for Syndergaard.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Yeah Conforto on a one year deal would be a huge boost to the lineup, but if he is anti vax as mentioned, then the Jays can't do anything there. I think he got some bad advice from Boras. He should have taken the QO.
Show Hey Verified Member Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 With Conforto being antivax, how much does that play into other teams wanting to sign him? Particularly AL East teams. Say the Yankees were interested. Not only would they be losing a pick, they'd also be giving a lot of money to a significant bat who couldn't travel to Toronto with them.

Works well for the Jays but won't impact other teams' decisions, really. The Yankees have bigger problems depending on if their players who aren't vaccinated can play at home.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 We've seen vocally unvaccinated players from last year get the shots over the winter so I wouldn't write off Conforto just yet.

Not only that, but can't play 81 home games either.
