I feel like this story is flying under the radar a bit.

Apparently Buck Martinez is not vaccinated and has said he does not plan to do so.

https://www.torontomike.com/2021/08/buck-martinez-vaccination-controversy/

So he's still calling games from his home in Florida.

The broadcast is just better when you're at the stadium. Buck has had some lackadaisical calls in big moments lately. And there was better energy tonight when Tabby was saying he thought that popup was going to come back into play in the top of the 9th. He could actually comment on things the monitors weren't picking up.

So what is Buck's future with the Blue Jays. Is he just going to call games remotely for the rest of his contract?

I think it hurts the broadcast so it's a problem they are going to have to sort out.

True, unless it’s Buck at the stadium. The broadcast would be dramatically better with Buck at home without a headset, microphone or monitor, regardless of his vaccination status.

The better story is Kylie Irving in NY who can’t play home games. Interesting to see what will give there. Imagine if a Jay star did that

The Jays have needed to move on from Buck and Pat for years now. If this is what finally does it, then great.

I can't understand why teams don't see how important attracting younger audiences is. Having two "get off my lawn" men like Buck and Pat calling games and expecting younger audiences to tune in is just crazy. Shulman is great. He needs fresh blood next to him.

My question is if it's strictly a border requirement thing, why isn't he at every road game? Is he just done with travelling altogether? If so, then see ya. You can come to Tampa and do a Rays/Jays series for old times sake

But he can't continue to call off a monitor, he keeps talking over his partner and is even more clueless than when he was at the park.

It's probably a team or MLB requirement. They can't force every player to get vaccinated because of the union but network employees like Buck have no such power and he is subject to the policies of Rogers etc.

For the record:

Jonn's post was too political so it was deleted but that's not why he was banned.

Advanced level modding needed. You do realize his post is fully quoted and visible right? I don't see how calling Buck stupid for a personal health decision is not political but someone sharing a personal anecdote and indirectly trying to defend his personal health decision is.

The comments about his ability to perform his job under this circumstance is fair game.

Calling someone dumb for not getting vaccinated is not a political position. You can do so without references politics at all.

Yet if you say why you don’t get it, that’s political?

Was the post that was too political the post that Digital quoted? How is that too political? I don't get it. Maybe it was a post that was deleted that I didn't see?

Vaccine good, politics not. The two should not be mixed, here or anywhere.

Then why wasn't this thread closed after the first post? It brought up Buck and the vaccine. You knew it was going to spiral. All other posts were allowed, except the one which had a differing opinion.

Jonn's first three paragraphs were a pointed opinion on a political policy (vaccine passports). It's not that complicated.

I didn't notice the quoted post.

So why are they?

Buck Martinez is Blue Jays relevant so the discussion about him as it relates to vaccination choice is fair game and interesting.

What did Jonn say that was political? Why is he banned? The vaccine and one's choice not to, shouldn't be censored if that's what happened, I don't know what was said, but it steers that way.

It's always the same pattern, someone posts a establishment friendly quip, that is often not accurate, but it is left untouched, just a good laugh, until someone corrects the first person.

Then it's the correction (often accurate) that mods become concerned with because it is "getting political". But it's never the original that they care about.

For example if someone said "Buck is a f***ing Moron, 95% of Canadians are vaxed and they all want the vaccine mandate", mods wouldn't care, and have a chuckle even though not quite accurate

Then if someone responded "well it's more like 70-80% of Canadians vaxed and I'm not sure how many want the mandate but ... ", that person would have their post taken down, even though accurate.

Nothing he said was political. It’s basically mod by Minority Report. They’re anticipating where it’s headed. His anecdote about his personal health situation was relevant to the OP, as what he was saying is just because Buck isn’t vaxxed doesn’t make him an evil douchebag.

Apparently the ban was for something else though

And no one has said Buck is an evil douchebag. Unless he changes his position is probably on his way out as Jays announcer. Say what you will about vaccine mandates, but employers have a health and safety duty to their employees.

So they should just kibosh the damn thread, who cares what Buck's doing, it's his choice. This just follows one sided thinking, pathetic. Hahaha... see post above, my point. The v-passport and mandates aren't law, I'd f***ing sue the f*** out of them if I were Buck.
