5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 The Pad's have their swag chain, other teams haves silly hats and it's all kind of fun and a form of team camaraderie. And the Jays have a... winter jacket? It feels forced. Especially now that the player has to stop before the dugout as Charlie slowly and carefully applies the jacket. It's just not a very exciting thing to watch. It would be one thing if it was some kind of cool, over the top jacket like a fur-coat or some studded jacket or some s***, but it's literally just a plain ugly blue winter jacket with country names scrawled across it. Padre fans LOVE the swag chain and they sell em and it's a piece of team lore now, but I don't think I've ever even heard a Jays fan talk about the jacket. Is there some kind of lore to the jacket or back story that I'm unaware of? What's the appeal of this ridiculous process? The jacket's a lame idea. Can they put it to rest already?

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 I don't mind it. I hope it only lasts for this season and they do something else next year. If they auction the jacket off for Jays Care then it would have been for a great cause.

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 It's a suit jacket and it's also a nod to the internationality of the team. I don't mind it at all.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 This thread is more cringe than the jacket, just Chuckles shouldn't be involved, really.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 How on earth do you think that its a winter jacket... lol

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 There's a lot of goofy s*** in sports, this isn't one of them. It's fine for one season and much better than throwing seeds.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 This. Should be a players thing. Montoyo doing it once was the max Apparently they asked him to do it, he should've said that's your thing fellas, etc...

You didn't wear any suits and it shows.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 It's not for us, it's for them. I don't understand the annoyance tbh. No one should want the players to be as miserable as our gameday threads are. No one's ever worked in a horrible work environment before? s*** sucks.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 They should change it to a hit-with-RISP jacket.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 They should change it to a hit-with-RISP jacket. Jacket might collect too much dust if that happened. It's like giving the Jacket to the Bullpen for every scoreless inning they pitch lol.

Jays are hitting .267 with RISP, which is 3rd in MLB trailing the #1 and #2 places teams who are at .271 (Houston and Washington)

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 Have you not been watching for the past few weeks? Of course. They were leading baseball prior to this cold stretch at .282 A two week cold stretch does not define a season.
King Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 Of course. They were leading baseball prior to this cold stretch at .282 A two week cold stretch does not define a season. I mean, it kind of does define a season if you're in the middle of a wild card race. That is narrative though and in reality it's just a streak of poorly timed bad luck.

This team has been destroyed late in games, unfortunately. Also, they were 1st overall a few weeks ago, in RISP, hence the drop through this spell. Not good mate, they need to wake the f*** up against likely the most important part of the season in the next 7 against the A's and Yankees or it's sayonara.

Is there anything real to this, or is it just statistical noise?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 Is there anything real to this, or is it just statistical noise? Likely noise, that bit us in the ass this season. Certainly with the pen, but they've been fugly late with the bats, it just compounded everything.

And that the Jays young hitters tighten up in the late innings, the anti-clutch. Buck and Pat will tell us clutch is a thing.....

A run scored is a run scored - regardless of what inning it is.
