Well, if they really think Martin isn't as good as industry consensus, then this was the time to trade him. If he has another no power year next season his value will be shot.

I say this realizing that the return (Berrios) is another question altogether.

No, but Kimbrel would look good in a Jays uniform.

Still need bullpen help if we want to do anything this year

We essentially just added Hand, and whatever 2 starters (counting Pearson) don't start. Unless someone is giving us a reliever for our 40 man drops...I don't see them adding.

Martin has a .440 OBP and a +wRC of 132 in AA. Who cares is he's not hitting bombs. A player like that is still super valuable. I can't even work right now, that's how much this trade has bothered me.

As a penny stock trader, I have learned that when the crowd shits all over a stock and whines like a little f***ing girl about it, time to buy. When they praise it like it's the greatest thing on earth, time to sell.

Welcome to Toronto Scottie Barnes and Jose Berrios. f*** off Austin Martin and Jalen Suggs. Professionals who get paid handsomely to know 1,000x more than the riff-raff fans determined that it must be this way.

I agree with your thoughts but disagree on how it reflects to this transaction.

Berrios was the stock with increased interest. Would have been the time to pivot to a less shiny toy like a Charlie Morton-ish pitcher for half the capital cost.

Not a big fan of this move, but given that there's likely to be a lockout, focusing on winning this year is probably defensible given where we are in the standings. If we're doing this though, we had better add at least two really good arms in the pen.

There won't be a lockout lmao

The Brewers and Giants are still looking to add an impact bat, per source. The Blue Jays are also seeking a bat, even after dealing two top prospects for Jose Berríos.

Looks like the jays are still looking to add a bat.

It's hard to even comment on the value here because so much of the outcome hinges on a Berrios extension. If he signs a reasonable 5-year deal or something in the offseason, a lot of the downside risk here evaporates.

Exactly, for me it all comes down to an extension.

Some of the comments are so ridiculous. It's a done deal, get over it and be happy that we got a solid starter. We sure needed another one.

Prospects are just that, prospects. They haven't proven anything yet.

Would anyone come here if the thread about a major trade was just a bunch of celebration gifs?

Not the kind of people we are looking to attract that’s for sure

Probably will be easier after we give him the QO in 2022

Interesting to look at past prospects

At Raps game but quick thought for Jays fans. Judging by reported deal for Greinke, would have cost Jays Drabek, Snider, Hech, plus. Pricey

Lol great find

This is usign extremes, you can not like the trade and not think it's RA dickey 2.0 or a disaster either, there is a middle ground. It's the over the top hyperbole that is ridiculous/

ROSTER MOVE: To make room on our 40-man roster for RHP José Berríos, RHP Tyler Chatwood has been designated for assignment.

I don't think there have been more than a small handful of worthless posts ITT.

See, this trade just instantly got better! Barely half an hour in and the team keeps winning.

Chatwood being gone makes me feel a little better. That guy single handedly lost us 3-4 games.

Single-handedly? Chuckles helped by putting him in a position to fail.

I think extension is key, if they sign him to one I am ok with this tbh, if not then def not. Of course they can afford him, the jays have payroll flexibility.

By affording him, I mean wanting to pay the big bucks that it will take to keep him. Trading for him just to give him a massive extension while giving up 2 top prospects seems dumb. If we don't get him under a reasonable deal past 2022, this trade will be a massive failure.
