Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Lukewarm would be an understatement. Not a bad move or a good move. Just a move. More bad than good IMO. If the Nats were eating the full contract then I'd probably consider it neutral.
Signal Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Probably expecting others back next year so a long term RP might not be worth paying for I agree it is not the year to trade top prospects. This last move is one where the Jays traded away a redundant prospect at a position of great depth for a pitcher that is a rental but one that Walker may be able to work with and get him back on track. If so, he may become another story like Ray, who decides to resign with the Jays and gets his career back on track. If the experiment does not work, well what did they lose? I like Atkins approach thus far, he is trying to add pieces that will contribute beyond this year and this last trade is more of getting a much needed arm for the bullpen while giving Walker some time to work with him to see if he can get him back on track.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 So does that mean we have to pay the 6.5 deferred plus the prorated amount on what's left? 8M-ish total?
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Hand will be throwing to Reese McGuire, Tabby will have a field day.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Jays love dumpster diving. They’ll prob do some more of it and have some hits and misses as normal.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Don't want to see them give up prospects for f***ing rentals. Surprised they did this actually.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Escobar would’ve been nice for RA. Last time I’ll whine about it:)
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I can't see anyone having a strong opinion over this at least until he starts pitching. First s***** outing = the trade sucks. Nothing but good outings = the trade was worth it. To this point, it doesn't register as anything but neutral to me. Riley Adams is not a prospect and Hand's salary doesn't remotely alter the team's ability to spend in the future. In a way you could see this as good news. There is no way the FO would do this deal if they were anywhere near a budget constraint right now.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Meh... we're a bit better in the pen, I guess.
Buster Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Shatkins can't sell for team culture and optical reasons, so they're going to do these types of deals pretending to upgrade and make moves.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Those sliders look great. Now show me some of his slider post Spider Tack please.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Meh... we're a bit better in the pen, I guess. If he replaces Thornton it's an improvement But I was hoping for more I guess more would have cost more than Adams
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Me too Not thrilled about this one This reminds me of the Villar trade last year where they sent out an actual prospect for a player having a bad season by his standards.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 We could have had Hand last year when he was placed on waivers and then again in free agency. Instead we choose to get him when he isn't pitching well while we're practically out of the division race and give up Adams in the process for 2 months of his services? This looks very stupid man.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 We could have had Hand last year when he was placed on waivers and then again in free agency but we choose to get him when he isn't pitching well for 2 months when being out of the division race? Oh and while giving up Adams too? This looks very stupid man. The club also could have obtained Villar for free on waivers the year before as well. Seems like history has repeated itself, we just have to hope Hand isn't terrible like Villar was post trade last season.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 If this is it, all he really does is guarantee us a slightly worse draft pick. Although Hand has been s***** since the sticky stuff crackdown. Maybe we get a better draft pick - dunno.

There probably isn't room for him on the 40 at the end of the season so he would have been lost for free. We have too many catchers as it is. Hand is a veteran in the pen. The pen is looking Okay right now, but you could have 3 guys get hurt in a weak. We need the depth. We're not going to rue the day we traded Riley Adams.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 We ARE sure this is the whole trade yes??
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Meanwhile the White Sox get Cy Tepera who we could have just kept around....
Ray Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Escobar would’ve been nice for RA. Last time I’ll whine about it:) Shatkins just setting the stage for a Jose Ramirez trade Biggio, Groshans, & Kloffenstein should be a good starting point.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Riley Adams sucks and we don’t need 5 Catchers on the 40 man anyway. Hand hasn’t been great but he’s still better than 4 of our current relievers and has some upside. The only crappy thing is we aren’t getting any salary relief at all but who cares we are a big market team. It’s a solid trade.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I still think we're going to trade for Scherzer and Ramirez and it's going to be a Christmas in July miracle. Otherwise gloom exists for August my friends.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 If he replaces Thornton it's an improvement I mean.. that’s not a very high bar to clear. Kirby Snead is probably better than Trent at this point.
