I think we've failed to score runs in one other game this year. We score 4 or 5 and give up 6 or 7. We only give up 2 and we score nothing. This team....too frustrating lately.

Selling is the right thing to do

yup. they won't though.

The new Home campaign, and an impatient fanbase will get them to sell some prospects for an outside shot at a WC and a first round loss.

Trade Biggio, Van Eyk, and Kay for Story, Bard, and Gray. Not a big cost, appearance of buying. See what we can do with that

I think there can come a point where buying at the deadline will be a little pointless (ex. they fall 7+ games back of Oakland for the 2nd WC by next week), but I'm not sure selling will accomplish much either, unless they find a way to trade Semien and Ray for players that will help them as early as 2022. Trading for low level prospects really doesn't fit the team's current situation (they need to win in 2022). Holding on to both of those guys and qualifying them is still an option.

embarrassing effort. Springer has been a bust so fat

He should have had at least a walk tonight, so the ump screwed him. His .OPS even without the walk is .794, which is below where you would expect, but hardly bust territory. I mean Lindor has a .702 OPS and he got paid 341 mil, so it could be worse.

Like always, it is about asset management. If you trade Semian and Ray, you finish this season with fewer wins, but more assets which you can use to get wins next year (or subsequent years). The only reason to keep those guys at this point is that you think the comp picks are as good (or close) as the return you would get at the deadline. I think teams would pony up very compelling assets to get Semian or Ray at the deadline. This team isn't going on some magical run to the WS this year, it just isn't.

I think they sit and wait until after the first series in TO. They will push the playoff narrative to get buts in seats.

You're correct.

It depends on what the returns would be. I wouldn’t be against trading Semien and Ray if the team falls further back, it’s just I’m not sure if it would really accomplish anything since teams nowadays tend to hold on to good prospects. The comp picks at least increase the draft pool and/or give you a shot at keeping the player if they accept (Semien definitely won’t, and Ray might have pitched well enough to decline as well, but still two months to go). But you’re right about asset management, it comes down to what other teams would be offering.

Situations like this is where I envy a team like the Rays. They don’t give a s*** about optics and just do what they feel makes the most sense.

If the Jays move Semien and Ray, it should be for pitching prospects. As the saying goes, you can never have enough. Jays have some strong pitching prospects in the system but is certainly weaker compared to position players.

Seattle has some interesting pitching on the farm.

I don't think they get moved, anyway. Jays might make some minor moves on the margins, just in case the team goes on a tear.

No fight in this team, like the Red Sox and Rays

Go and watch their games. Comeback kings.

Not trying to win it with one swing. They string hits together. Unselfish baseball.

Thank you! Been saying this all year and getting flamed. Way too much reliance on the long ball. Good to see someone else who isnt blaming it on bad luck and bad umps. Good teams overcome that nonsense. This isnt a good team.
