VernonWellsShineyBaldHead Verified Member Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 I haven't followed this story that closely and don't care all that much, but I'm hopeful that MLB will clarify what makes this incident 5-10 times worse than the others MLB has dealt with. There have been some pretty terrible crimes that have only resulted in double digit games lost as opposed to the ~400 we are seeing here. Is this what we can expect going forward for other players involved in domestic violence or was this a special case? If it's the former then I'm ok with that. If it's the latter then they have some explaining to do. The difference is Bauer embarrassed the league by calling them out for doing nothing about sticky stuff, proceeded to win a cy young while overtly using sticky stuff, and then continued to beat the drum after he won the cy by posting countless videos on youtube about the use of sticky stuff. He's the primary reason the mlb had to crack down on it and they dont like players dictating the game at that level.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 The rest of the situation aside, filming someone asleep like that is really f***ing s*****.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 That’s just the perfect example of the current divide of people nowadays. Jim’s will just keep reading and others will just be like “wtf are you even serious”… everyone can agree the initial allegations against Bauer were beyond disturbing…but what really happened is just wow (from what we know so far including this new one) What are you talking about. I have never expressed that Bauer is guilty or innocent, only to let the facts as determined by a court of law decide. Making conclusions based on stuff on twitter and other social media is just dumb.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I don’t like the idea of media and human rights activists deciding his fate. It should be voted on upon his peers if he should continue in Baseball. He was cleared of all charges. Had both a compelling case and physical and visual proof of his innocence. Enough of this cancel culture s*** and let the man play Baseball.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 How quickly we forget the whole "shot a gun at my girlfriend" thing... yeah really https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2016/03/01/victims-advocate-aroldis-chapmans-statement-disturbing/81179790/ Chapman said: “I want to be clear I did not in any way harm my girlfriend that evening. However, I should have exercised better judgment with respect to certain actions, and for that, I am sorry. “The decision to accept a suspension, as opposed to appealing one, was made after careful consideration.’’ Chapman, 27, was accused of choking his girlfriend, Cristina Barnea, during an Oct. 30 argument at his Davie, Fla. home. Chapman then smashed a window of a car in the home's garage, grabbed a handgun and fired nine rounds inside the garage.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 He got way too many games. It's a shame the MLB bullied him for bringing light to the sticky stuff. I hope he continues to not give a f***, I wanna see him tackle the issue with the balls next.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 It all comes down to $$$. Not the money it will take to sign him but will the backlash be enough to drive away sponsors. Social media is now about 50/50 mostly split down the middle based on their opinion of Trevor previous to the incident. For a team to spin the PR that this was a kink and a golddigger just won't happen (that is his team's job and they have done it well), as it undermines the suspension and team's just can't do that. So it has to be a team that is prepared to lose a sponsor if the media spins it as taking on a demon. You have a month to decide and I think there will be enough team's who decide it is worth the risk.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 What is it going to cost to have Bauer on your team in 2023?

Astros are probably just going to get better…
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Surplus value. Everyone’s favourite term If all it takes is the lost sponsor Is that sponsor worth 40M? I doubt it

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 The only difference is Osuna actually hit a woman Yes, exactly! Which makes the PR of Osuna signing even worse, or should have anyway.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Bauer would be an interesting get. He's been keeping at it during his time away so he shouldn't be too rusty. Not sure it would be worth the headache from a PR/clubhouse side.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Dodgers won’t have to pay him for the first 50 games of the season, but they’ll remain on the hook for the rest of his $32MM salary. He’ll still be owed approximately $22.12MM after accounting for his docked pay. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/trevor-bauers-suspension-reduced-to-194-games-bauer-reinstated-effective-immediately.html
