Bauer is a Republican. Makes sense.

Awkward, socially inept weirdo who outperformed his given natural talent through hard work and dedication who wanted to expose cheats before giving up and joining them then being the best at it. You didn't have to tell me this, I already knew that.

Sources tell me that I don't really care either way, but this thread is a proxy for a political fight.

You are doing your very best to make it a political fight.

Do we actually know that Bauer is still good post sticky stuff crackdown? I mean, he's VERY public about his absolute abuse of the stuff, and most of the talk about Bauer is always about how he doesn't have the natural physical gifts (of a complete machine of a pitcher, he's still better than 99+% of the non-baseball-playing population), but succeeds anyway...

I dunno, considering all the noise around him (and you can put me on team "I find his Twitter account juvenile and boring") + the likelihood that he won't be nearly as good w/o the sticky stuff and I think teams would have a hard time justifying picking him up, if he ever plays again.

Bauer had an awesome season in 2018 (5.8 FWAR in only 175 innings) before the obvious spin rate f***ery that happened towards the end of 2019. His spin rates had been creeping up over time since Statcast tracking started, but until the end of 2019 these appeared to be gains which could naturally be obtained through training as they were gradual in nature. From the end of the 2019 season until his eventual suspension it was alarmingly apparent that he was using some sort of sticky substance though.

Interesting

I lean towards agreeing with him. I suspect that non-disclosure agreements and hush money payments are quite common. There players are on the road so much, away from their wives, girlfriends, families etc... with snatch being flung at them from every direction at all times. They're only human.

It probably happens way more than we think. And understand, I'm not excusing the behavior at all, it's still the player's choice whether they do whatever it is they do and they are still responsible for their decisions and actions. It's also common knowledge that some completely moronic fans of a certain sex frequent the hotels and hangouts of baseball players, hoping to score, get knocked up or entrap them in controversy (just like this) and enjoy a big payday if they can find the right mark. Ditto for all other athletes, actors, famous people etc.

And in no way am I implying that this is representative of all fans of that sex. 99.9% of them are completely normal I'm sure.

Agreed John. It sounds as if he had the opportunity to provide hush money and chose to go public instead. Very interesting if true.

Bauer is just a fascinating situation. it's very clear from the things he says, he gives 0 craps. Like, if a reporter asked him the most obvious follow up question of "who do you know who has paid hush money to a ..." it's like he probably wouldn't name the names, but he would put some kind of number out there as to how many players he KNOWS has done it.

The fact he doesn’t give a s*** what others think of him is the reason why people hate him.

Why wouldn’t someone who made 42M last year pay a few hundred grand in exchange for an NDA if they were guilty?

Why should anyone care about what other people they'll never meet think of him or her? Like honestly, your family, friends and maybe your employer (to a point) but outside of that... who gives a s***? Too many people are paralyzed by the fear of what someone they'll never meet thinks about them. This imaginary audience that people worry about is mind boggling to me. All that s*** is what leads to the massive anxiety problem in the world today.

Bit of psychology actually. If we spend too much time worrying about what the world as a whole thinks about us as an individual (and really, the whole world doesn't give a rats ass), living up to those hypothetical expectations becomes impossible. It's the very reason why more and more kids have crippling anxiety before they're even teens over not getting enough thumbs up on their social media posts. They don't realize that their posts are only being seen by like 20 people, but they think that the entire world is watching and should be agreeing and commenting.

Follow up to the above: It sounds weird, but every one in the world would actually be better off mentally if they really understood how inconsequential they are to the rest of the world.

It seems like the opposite should be true, but it's not.

Recent birthday wish posts about Bauer have pretty much drawn zero anti-bauer responses. Pretty sure he'll be back in 2022.

My source told me he fully expects Bauer on the mound in 2022

Looks like my source was right

Doubtful he pitches for the Dodgers though. Curious how that will play out
