G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I don't ever want to see Thornton throw another pitch in the majors for us. Please demote him when Richards is here tmw. And we definitely need to upgrade Matz at some point after the ASB. Kyle Hendricks please
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 dumbtoyo using up his best relievers in a blowout loss game lol Huh?
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Oh look we're probably winning if that shitcan Thornton didnt come in
Slyfisher Verified Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Nice opposite field home run Gurriel. Hopefully it's not too late to make a difference
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Pen melt down cost us another. Hopefully we won't see the likes of Thorton, Chatwood or Dolis anymore if Atkins obtains a few more pen pieces.
Jaysareus Verified Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Oh look we're probably winning if that shitcan Thornton didnt come in SHitcan is right how many more implosions by thorton does dumbtoyo have to see before he stops using him
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 In 2019 I thought Thornton could make a pretty decent multi inning reliever, but he's actually a worse RP than he was a SP (he at least put up a 2 WAR season as a SP).
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I wonder if these dumb shits will ever go on a run this season? I gotta keep telling myself that they only won 60 some games two seasons ago, and they've come along ways, because they are f***ing driving me nuts the last 2 months.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I'm sure glad we have Kirk stashed at AAA. How many games does his hitting streak have to be before we bring him up? It's sitting at 5 right now. 1.023 OPS being wasted in Trenton.

BCZ Verified Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Them feels... f***. Gibby was the best. Particularly the second coming of Gibby.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 f*** it's amazing the knack Charlie has for pressing the wrong buttons consistently with his in game managerial decisions. Why he insists on putting struggling relievers into close games over and over is a total mystery, his lack of awareness is completely baffling. Thornton needs to be removed from the roster asap to prevent our bumbling manager from continuing to use him when the game is still within reach. I don't care if it's a phantom injury or demotion to AAA, get it done Atkins.

Atkins will take care of this with an imminent Thornton DFA Same as he took care of Charlie's love for Panik over Espinal with a trade
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Them feels... f***. Gibby was the best. Particularly the second coming of Gibby. Gibby did the exact same thing with the talented 2015 team. If the Jays acquire the equivalent of Price, Tulo, Revere, a couple more relievers and got Pearson to play the Sanchez set up man role this team would also win low 90s...
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Gibby did the exact same thing with the talented 2015 team. If the Jays acquire the equivalent of Price, Tulo, Revere, a couple more relievers and got Pearson to play the Sanchez set up man role this team would also win low 90s... He did. I watched the famous 2015 Gm 5 vs TEX playoff gm again the other day. Gibby had Goins sac bunt with 2 men on in the big inning. TEX did the wheel play on a s*** bunt (of course it was...just because Goins was a s***** hitter doesn't mean he was a good bunter) to Beltre who fired it to Andrus for cakewalk out at 3B. Of course Andrus dropped it thankfully and the rest is history. We remember most Jose's smash and the W. Gibby was better than Buntoyo obviously but he had a better team. He pulled some bone head moves too. We got lucky on that one.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I can't really understand hating on Montoyo for using Thornton. - Matz seems to be building up stamina again right now so it was reasonable to remove him after 68 pitches. Last outing he only threw 48. - Thornton has not been a complete/obvious disaster this year. HR rate is very high but the K and BB rates look fine. Big difference between his FIP and xFIP. He was a competent starter in 2019 so it is very reasonable for the organization to think that he will settle in as an above average middle relief option once the noise settles down. - Thornton is literally on the team to take the ball in situations like this when the starter can't go deep. It was the fifth inning. Toronto doesn't have 5 high leverage relievers to ride to the end of the game, even if they went to your favourite decent reliever in inning 5 they would have been hoping for clean innings from a couple of s***** arms later on. It had to be either Thornton or Anthony Kay to keep it close. There Kay's ERA was higher than Thornton's entering the game last night. The pen is weak but that's not Charlie's fault. stfu!
BuffaloWings Verified Member Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Bottom line is this, the Jays are going to be a just above .500 team until they get some pitching. They cannot give up 7 runs to the Orioles and expect to win. Offense in Baseball is similar to defense in football, it wont bail you out everytime. Atkins better get some pitching soon or this team is going to flip flop with the Yankees for third all year long.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I am prepared to blame the offense more than anything for last night. Spenser Watkins should have been pounded back to the minor leagues with the stuff he was offering but the Blue Jays took an awful lot of unprofessional hacks trying to end his career in one swing and they paid for it.

We win one with Tampa who we are chasing but in both series lost a game we could have fairly easily flipped to a W. Now we are hoping to salvage a series win against the O's. For a wildcard we have to play pretty close to .600 ball the rest of this season now. 38.5% chance. The FO knows this. Just a question of how much they want/think we are for real this year and how much they want to give up.

Watins was ripe for the picking, but in the end the Jays put up 5 runs of offence. It's tough to win many games when the pitching staff implodes to the tune of 7 runs.

Same thing happened with Sheffield against the M's last week. He looked so bad and hittable but the Jays couldn't break through against him and eventually lost. Jays offense is really good but they need to feast off the bad pitching when it's there for the taking.

It's interesting the recent acquisitions are players with a few years of control. Hedging bets a bit on this year?

He better think this year is real though, its not many years you will have the lineup like you do now. You cant expect your team to lead the league in Home Runs every year. This offense is very real, Championship real. They have to get some pitching.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
