Watching Jays in 30. Have to say Vlads weight loss is impressive. Also have to say he still looks big and s***** on D.

What are people's thoughts on Biggio batting 7th vs 9th?

 

7th is where he roughly ranks batting wise but I prefer 9th so we have a great on base guy before Springer. Kind of works as a table setter from that position. It also sucks for late game situations where we might have an inferior player getting more at bats by being higher than him in the order.

I don't think it really matters. The only possible weak link in the lineup looks like Danny Jansen. They could randomize the batting order every day and it wouldn't make much difference

It's a tough call. If Kirk is in the line up, then i would bat Biggio 9th. At least this way, there isn't much of a drop off offensively if Kirk would get an extra at bat.

Ya it's an extremely minor detail for such a stacked lineup but was curious on what the preference of the majority was on something like this. Either Jansen 9th or Biggio 9th.

With so many good hitters, playing the matchups to set the order can make sense. Guy with a plus plus changeup on the mound? Move your hitters that don't do well against the changeup down the order.

 

This kind of approach means everyone is playing throughout the order, so no guys getting pissed off hitting in the bottom third all the time.

Jansen 9th for me. Would hate to ever watch Jansen be the last out of a close game while a superior hitter is on deck because of overly cute lineup construction

I'm pretty sure Jansen would get pinch hit for in that situation, unless we don't have anyone left to catch. These types of situations don't happen very often anyway.

Yeah, i don't buy the whole "turning the lineup over" thing. You want your best hitters getting the most ABs, that includes our 8th best hitter getting more ABs than our 9th best hitter.

With Grichuk and Kirk on the bench in games where Jansen catches there's bench options now!

Only other wrinkle to Jansen being 9th is that if Tellez is in the lineup, we would have to split up our lefties. That means we need one of Gurriel/Teo/Semien to bat 7th.

Since LOOGYs are no longer a thing, this really doesn't matter anymore, 'cause nobody will roster that lefty specialist...

 

Also, 24 pitches, 10 strikes. Not a great inning from Liriano.

So after today, the talk is clear that it should be Bo vs Jansen for the 9th spot and not Biggio ;) lol

 

Lets bat Springer 9th so he can drive everyone in. He’ll be happy about more RBI opportunities right

Wouldn't put that past Montoyo after seeing Biggio bat 7th/8th while Jansen was 3rd last year lol.
