Ok come on now. Borucki is a 3 pitch lefty holding 97. What are we doing with this guy?

The Jays seem to keep pitchers as SPs for as long as possible. If they are committed to Borucki as a reliever-only then they likely don't see him lasting as a SP, either due to durability or something else.

He's multi-inning at least.

We had this guy starting 3 years ago. He was like 92 with one off-speed, no slider, and he didn't embarrass himself.

High five, Mike!

I don't think multi-inning is out of the question at all. He has the slider/cutter that's effective against lefties and the changeup effective against righties. He can clearly be an effective multi-inning guy, but he'll be the one dictating that. He can get a little wild at times, but I'm sure the Jays would love to have him as a multi inning stopper.

It remains to be seen if fireballer Borucki out of the bullpen has much control of his stuff. He certainly didn't last season.

We will see. He might but last year he was wild as f***.

Fair enough. I think Alvarado kind of sucks.

I might be wrong but:

a) the changeup has not been good since 2018. He threw some horrible changeups today that the hitters just spit on.

B) his peripherals were not good when he was starting and "not embarrassing himself". His ERA just made people like Carlos Danger think he was a good SP.

Personally, I'm extremely happy if he can just settle in as a great setup RP. Give me one shut down inning.

He's never had control problems for his entire professional career. Basically anywhere between 2-3 bb/9. The Jays must be questioning his durability. I don't think command is that big of a concern with the way the game is trending (shorter stints).

That's what I was eyeballing, that's a small sample to take from last season. He'll be a stud pony Mike!

He's only thrown 78 of them since 2018. In 2018, it was a good pitch. But it's his 3rd best pitch now probably (the slider is clearly better). He just needs more reps with it after all the time off.

My thought process with that comment is how can we see him as a starter in 2018 but now that his stuff has ticked up, he's not a starter?

It must be durability concerns. Which are probably valid. But I would shoot for multi-inning at least.

I just don't really see the need for him to go multiple innings consistently. Unless there are multiple injuries, Borucki is being followed by or following a good reliever.

More generally, I think with the way the game has been trending the traditional logic of "let him start until he fails" can sometimes be flawed, with specific pitchers. An early but decisive decision to make a guy a reliever can be the best thing for him. Sometimes. For various reasons.

Well, that camera setup was really nice, so that means they're either never going to do it again, or they're going to plaster ads all over it, or they're going to charge for it.

Crazy good lineup for today’s game against Detroit:

1. George Springer, CF

2. Marcus Semien, 2B

3. Bo Bichette, SS

4. Teoscar Hernandez, LF,

5. Rowdy Tellez, DH

6. Vlad Jr., 1B

7. Cavan Biggio, 3B,

8. Randal Grichuk, RF,

9. Alejandro Kirk, C

Swap Grichuk for Gurriel, but even as it stands, it’s an amazing lineup.

I keep looking for that camera link to pop up, I hope they use it again. Big Diesel on the mound too...
