With management saying we were done the heavy lifting, maybe 5%?

In percentage points, what do you guys think the odds are we land Bauer??

I think its about 1 in 3 at best

Shatkins have been pretty transparent about their intentions this offseason. If they said that their heavy lifting is done, I believe them. They said they want the flexibility to be able to go after some of the free agents next offseason.

So I'd say there's about a 5% chance of us getting him where his market would totally have to collapse.

He said 1 of 3 at best... I believe that's close, 1 of 4 if you include the Giants... 25%

Still waiting for the mid-tier SP market to get going after the Bauer domino falls.

It’ll be interesting to see where Odorizzi/Paxton/Walker land, and for how much.

Right? I think you may see all of these guys signed within 48 hours of Bauer being signed.

I wonder if it's time to try him in the pen. If his fastball plays up, he could be an Andrew Miller type with that slider.

I prefer the Yates deal for close to the same money. Colome is healthier, but his projections are mediocre and his ERA last year was a mirage.

I would have been fine with either of those two or Hand

Hendriks contract is too much. Doolittle too low likelihood of being good.

Jealous of this deal. Would love to see Felix in a Blue Jays uniform.

I always have a soft spot for the past elites. I'd still give Bautista a minor league deal if he asked for it lol.

The second tier pitchers are likely waiting on Bauer. So who do we like. I figure the four remain targets are

Paxton

Odirizzi

Walker

And Rosenthal.

Which, if any, should the Jays target. Paxton has high upside high injury problems. Walker was pretty solid for us - results if not peripherals - and Odirizzi they always seem interested in and never get. Rosenthal for the pen would be another lock-down type and would certainly make our pen look like a powerhouse (on paper).

The interesting thing is you might be able to get 3 out of the 4 for less money than one Bauer. And on fewer years.

Or should we be looking at trades instead. With this current pitching we aren't going anywhere so waiting to see what happens.

Or Walker/Rosenthal. Walker is only 28

If the Jays think they can get Walker to the next level, or they can't get Paxton to sign, then I'd be OK with bringing him back.

To me though, Paxton has way more upside if he can stay healthy and bounce back he's a top of the rotation guy. They need that a lot more than they need more mid to bottom of the rotation filler.

Short-term I agree with you on Paxton.

Long-term I dont, and maybe its better Jays look at the next 3 to 4 years instead of next 1 to 2 years (considering both pitcher's ages)
