The fact Schilling and Kent are not yet in the HOF, makes the whole thing an fnnn joke. Also, the Baseball writers is something from the fnn 30's. They need to expand to TV guys who follow the teams/players daily, not just writers.

Writers, get over yourselves and your woke fnn voting, the parameters are clear and and if you follow the parameters, political opinions or if a guy was mean to you for interviews or did not give you interviews (Kent) should not make an fnnn iota of a difference.

There's no chance that Pigf***er McGee gets into the HOF, right? I mean, that can't possibly happen...

The upcoming list is mostly comprised of:

1. Guys with PED history

2. Guys who are *******s

3. Guys who were great but for a stretch that lasted less than 10 years

The Hall of Fame directs voters to factor in the "player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played."

So you don't really have a cogent point RE: the parameters being clear.

Let's say the reliever Felipe Vazquez had a Hall of Fame career and then at the end of it he did what he did. Should he be voted for? You're going to say no unless you are a sociopath. Then the question becomes, where do you draw the "integrity and character" line.

A brief summary of some of the character points for the people who did not get in:

- Barry Bonds did extreme amounts of roids, cheated for years, bringing his actual talent and numbers into question. Perhaps worse, he has lied about it forever, never taken responsibility or owned up to it, been found guilty of perjury etc., and has essentially destroyed multiple lives through his arrogance and indignation.

- Omar Vizquel is under investigation for domestic violence.

- Curt Schilling once wore a shirt that said "Rope, Tree, Journalist... some assembly required". I could mention 46 other things but that alone is basically ASKING for voters to keep you out of the Hall.

- Clemens - I guess he's like Bonds lite when it comes to steroid stuff? If either of these guys had taken responsibility for what they did, apologized, and moved forward in a mature way they might be in the Hall right now.

On a ballot like this with so many no votes it is a complete travesty that a saint with enough WAR like Scott Rolen didn't get in.

Cheating, breaking the law, domestic abusers etc that is clear. For a guys personal opinions with not one allegation of cheating, or violation of any law or MLB policy is not apples and apples. No allegations of racism or anything like that, it is his personal political opinions, as interpreted, many times wrongly by others.

I didn't use Clemens and Bond in my example, even though I think personally they should be in.

There was also a lot of chatter about Kent being an ******* to reporters...

Schilling and Kent should be in the HOF period, full stop. Those voting against them are doing so for periphery and petty reasons.

That a persons political views shouldn't be anywhere near this process and Shi's a knob. No issue, you alright?

No, my anger has overtaken me

So the HOF wants voters to consider integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.

How in the f*** do voters take that into consideration? I mean if you were the beat writer for a team, you might be around the team enough to get a decent take on someone's integrity, sportsmanship and character - but that limits you to players from that one team. Otherwise, you're going to go off 3rd party opinions, written articles - or simply your random gut opinion/perspective. That process seems to be extremely flawed, especially in today's age of s***** reporting and fake news (f***, we can't even get it straight on whether Schilling wore the shirt, or re-tweeted someone else wearing a shirt).

Even 'contributions to the team(s) on which the player played' is super vague. I mean if someone's a great player, he obviously contributed a lot to the teams he played on....or are they looking for the leadership quality? or mentorship? Many look at Russell Martin as this great leader and teammate - but was he? How the f*** would a voter know? Funny enough Jansen said Luke Maile helped him more than Martin ever did.

IMO, voters need to consider the quality of the information they have when deciding how to weigh a player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. It's probably different for every player - but for most, I have to think playing ability would be 90% of the consideration, with all those other factors making up about 10% - given most of the information you have on those matters is completely flawed.

The ironic thing is, and just shows how this is really just political, is that Schilling won the Roberto Clemente award as a player. Not just nominated, but WON! Out of 750 MLB players or however many there were that year.

Roberto Clemente Award is given annually to the Major League Baseball player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team", as voted on by baseball fans and members of the media.

wouldn't his recorded stats fall under his playing ability? Maybe they mean awards?

Not necessarily. Jansen, for example, played a LOT better than his numbers showed (at the plate) last season.

Like all voting, the criteria are subjective to the person casting the vote. Personally, I'm fine with a grade A ******* like Schilling being omitted, but I'd be pretty okay with Pete Rose getting in. This is based on me, and my subjective opinions of those players and what they've done both on and off the field.

Thanks for making my point why the process is so flawed now and the HOF is an fnnnn joke now.. A once great institution now a side note due to a bunch of people being petty.. Luckily you don't have a vote, unfortunately too many other petty people do..

According to a story in the New York Daily News, Clemens was romantically involved for a decade with Nashville B-lister Mindy McCready. Citing unnamed sources, the Daily News claimed the pair met in 1991 when Clemens was a 28-year-old married father of two. McCready was 15 at the time.

Pete Rose and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson is a shame they're not in the Hall. :(

Ewww... I don't remember that story, apparently Clemen's wife was cool with that, freakin' hillbillies, lol.

She ended up blowing her head off with a shotgun.

There's no difference. Wearing the shirt or sharing a pic - same result.

It's not just a distasteful joke. "kill journalists" is not even close to a funny sentiment. Things that a) are not funny and B) call for a group of people to be murdered shouldn't be brushed off as "just a joke".

It's also just the tip of the douchebag iceberg that is Curt Schilling.

His assholiness only really became apparent after he retired from playing. I don't recall hearing anything problematic with him during his playing years.

Yeah personally, along with lots of others, I think the all-time greats Bonds and Clemens should be in but I can at least understand the other side.

Schilling is a joke. Actually during his playing career I don’t recall any major character issue things and remember him getting the hero treatment even with his bloody sock.

He’s being punished only by the contemporary woke crowd (cough*cough* Laila) because he’s clearly not going to march to the Ivory tower as a single-minded amoeba
