It really is

Bunch of *******s and cheaters lately on the ballot which sucks because some had amazing careers

I feel these voters for the most part wanted to make these 3 guys suffer the wait, make it in on their last year. Same with A-Rod 10 year wait coming right up.

I don’t think any of them get in. I was a bit confused on what Schilling said as he mentioned he wanted off the ballot and would take his chances later with the players voting him in. He was referencing the Vet committee obviously so I was thinking it was actually former players after reading that but in looking on wiki, it’s still just baseball writers

We'll see next year, I believe you're incorrect on the Veteran's committee, it's mostly HOF alumni if I remember correctly.

Yeah personally, along with lots of others, I think the all-time greats Bonds and Clemens should be in but I can at least understand the other side.

Schilling is a joke. Actually during his playing career I don’t recall any major character issue things and remember him getting the hero treatment even with his bloody sock.

He’s being punished only by the contemporary woke crowd (cough*cough* Laila) because he’s clearly not going to march to the Ivory tower as a single-minded amoeba

Schilling is a massive loser who has proudly and intentionally made himself into a social outcast. He's not some laudable contrarian. He's reaping what he has been sowing.

When someone pisses everybody off, on purpose, for years, it should not be surprising or a "joke" when they are then rejected from social institutions.

That would support what Schilling said. I just took a quick glance on wiki and saw otherwise

I believe the Committee changes from time to time. 16 members. Here is the breakdown from a recent year. It's players, executives, and media members. 12 votes are needed so pure player support would not be enough for Schilling to get in.

Hall of Fame members George Brett, Rod Carew, Dennis Eckersley, Eddie Murray, Ozzie Smith and Robin Yount;

major league executives Sandy Alderson, Dave Dombrowski, David Glass, Walt Jocketty, Doug Melvin and Terry Ryan;

veteran media members/historians Bill Center, Steve Hirdt, Jack O’Connell and Tracy Ringolsby.

There's no difference. Wearing the shirt or sharing a pic - same result.

It's not just a distasteful joke. "kill journalists" is not even close to a funny sentiment. Things that a) are not funny and B) call for a group of people to be murdered shouldn't be brushed off as "just a joke".

It's also just the tip of the douchebag iceberg that is Curt Schilling.

We are going to delve into politics but they can put BLM on the floor of NBA courts and have corporate sponsorship when BLM had mass marches in the streets of NYC saying Pigs should fry and die and countless of examples. Cathy Griffin holds up a cut off head of the President of United States, Madonna says they should blow up the White House. No Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Madonna, No comedy awards for Kathy Griffin and the NBA should be sanctioned for supporting a group that's members have publicly advocated killing COPs. A lot of things f***ed up in the world.

When someone on this board makes a Traped comment, they are not advocating Rape.

There are three pitchers with 3000 plus Ks that are not in the Hall of Fame. Verlander, CC Sabathia and Schilling. The first two will have their time. It is BS that people can't take an fnnn joke of a pic that was FWD.... to DQ someone for a HOF career without a doubt!

Not going to touch the BLM stuff in general because that topic is incredibly complex, but many of the violent protestors have suffered severe consequences.

Kathy Griffin's career effectively ended after her stunt.

Actions have consequences! Again, Curt Schilling is just reaping what he sowed. I don't feel bad for him at all.

I don't think Kathy Griffin was in danger of getting too many comedy awards before that tepid Salome reference...

Kap is getting paid millions while being the poster boy of BLM, a violent movement who pushes a false agenda. As well as wearing socks that put out the message that cops are pigs.

But ya, it's of course not a 2-way street anymore. So much hypocrisy.

More likely to receive a restraining order

Bonds, Clemens, and Schilling should all be in. If you want to put an asterisks on all of their plaques so the world knows that they cheated and/or are scumbags in real life, then so be it, but they didn't commit heinous crimes or anything. It shouldn't be this complicated.

Putting my personal opinions about these things aside, what does Kathy Griffin and Colin Kaepernick have to do with the MLB HOF? Maybe the voters don't like those people either, but they aren't on the ballot so they can't vote for/against them. Unfortunately conservatives have become the masters at conflation and whataboutism. Schilling belongs in the HOF and I don't think anything he said should disqualify him from that, but whining about Kaepernick getting a Nike deal while being blackballed from the NFL is not a strong argument for his case. At least compare Schilling with some players in Cooperstown.

Like, Schilling and Mussina?

There's no chance that Pigf***er McGee gets into the HOF, right? I mean, that can't possibly happen...

If Billy Wagner can't get in, no way Papelbon does

Posted
Billy Wagner was on MLB Network today jokingly complaining that Mariano Rivera set the bar so high for closers that no more might ever get in. LOL

He also loved Trump and had bastard children running around that he didn’t support from his adulteress... so that’s another good comp for Schilling

Pretty sure Wagner has no children.

Honestly, the hall of fame should probably go away soon anyway. Create something with the latest tech that allows people to celebrate baseball as a whole. See great plays from the perspective of the player making them, or be on-field at the biggest moments of the sport. With the latest tech, we aren't far away from being able to accomplish it. Interactive displays could show any player desired, their biggest moments, etc.

You shut your whore mouth. Cooperstown is incredible - even if there are debates about who got in, or who should get in (and at the end of the day, that gives people a reason to talk about baseball, which is a good thing).

That said - if they could incorporate what your suggesting into Cooperstown - then sure.

His suggestions will likely supplement the traditional induction stuff; not replace

A call for Pete Rose to be in the HOF while excluding other players on moral grounds is a strange stance to take imo. I mean, completely ignoring that he broke the one black and white rule for participation in the MLB, he's kind of a shady person as well. Between Schilling and Rose, I think Schilling is slightly better. He's a bigmouth and a wannabe online troll but he doesn't actually do anything that bad.

Now if you want to make an argument that Rose belongs in the HOF because his status as all-time hits leader gives him priority or a lower bar for "personal" issues over someone like Schilling who is a pretty forgettable pitcher by HOF standards, that might be something.

Posted
It's crazy to think that the baseball HOF possibly might never include the all time hits leader or the all time home run leader. I get it with Rose in particular but it just seems so odd ...

Believe it or not, I don't think Schilling's opinions, regardless of what I or anyone else think of them, should have any influence on a HOF vote. To consider his opinions when filling out a HOF vote will have the effect of silencing any other MLB'er with HOF aspirations. That is not right.

If Schilling is charged and convicted, that is a different matter. Until then, his free speech rights should not be infringed directly or indirectly (by HOF voter moral judgements).

As for Rose, he broke the rules, too bad. But this doesn't mean the HOF can't put up some information on him, just not as a HOF'er. Compromise.

Rose is just kind of pathetic now which is sad cause he was a great F'n player

I met him once in a Las Vegas shopping mall trying to sell autographed baseballs at a table for 10 bucks or something

A buddy of mine once saw him in Las Vegas (hmmm common theme here) at a high end steakhouse bar. A World Series game was happening that evening but the bar TVs were all set to college basketball. When my friend asked them to turn one TV to baseball he was told that Mr. Rose had requested to not have it on while he was there. I told my friend he should have asked him how much he had riding on the college basketball game.
