Sale could be tough, but our lineup would have a field day with the rest of Boston's awful, awful pitching staff.

Would never feel safe with that lineup though. With our bullpen they could put up a big number in a hurry unless we can get Ray pitching 8 innings lol.

Who is Luis Gil?

A guy who throws 98 with good spin and has a good breaking slider, and the YES network guys wonder why he wasn't up all year, then when he walks 7 they look at the minor league stats and realize he walked a tonne down there and say "that's why he wasn't up all year."

lol. That's why we were in several non-Sale games that were like 2-1, 1-0... just this year.

And just last night Eovaldi pitched them to a 2-1 win.

Even if somehow Sale didn't pitch the wild card game it's not like you'll get their worst pitcher then some players... which is the scenario that led to the blow outs.

It's looking like all of Boston, New York, Toronto, Seattle, and Oakland will be in a dogfight for the wild card spots.

This might make it unlikely that any team gets the benefit of lining up their Ace for the WC game. Something like Manoah vs. Pivetta or Taillon might be more likely than Ace vs. Ace.

Boston isn't a real contender so that's 4. Seattle has a bad run differential and might not be a real contender so that is 3, New York, Oakland and Toronto... If NY rights the ship, given Oakland is struggling just a bit and of course Boston isn't a real contender with their s***** pitching staff (did I mention that?) it is more than likely this is decided before the final weekend and we get Cole vs Ray.

A multi team race would be really exciting, but given lack of contenders outside of Toronto, Oakland and NY, looks like this won't be the year.

I know you are just pounding your iPad with random words so people respond, and trolling Grant, but I'm going to respond in a straightforward way anyway. There are five teams within 3.5 games of each other and they have 20 to 24 games left. It's already a multi-team race! lol. Even if Seattle sucks compared to the other four (they do) they could get in based on chance alone. And Boston could just outscore their opponents, win a bunch of 9-8 games, and get in.

I don't give a rats ass if anyone responds, but yes, of course I am trolling Grant.

Most non-Grant posters are well aware that it is a multi-team race. Any one following baseball for a while also knows sucky teams sometimes go far just by chance, 87 Twins for you old timers, 2014 Royals recently.

Grant has just annoyed me to no end with his constant trolling of Boston. Under John Henry Boston is on a 20 year run with different players, manager, GMs and presidents. They have a decent team this year and like the Rays are a great organization. They are currently the wild card leader, have a track record of success, have the former best Pitcher in baseball back, their starting staff all has great peripherals, there is zero reason to dismiss Boston, or complain about their pitching (too much). Grant deserves trolling, otherwise ignore my post.

Every one of these five teams is a good weekend away from getting into a Wild Card slot, a bad weekend away from losing it, and then another good weekend away from dramatically coming out on top.

I think Grant is secretly a Red Sox fan. He seems to be over compensating with his posts.

Terminator's Playoff Odds:

Jays: 100%

Red Sox: 33%

A's: 33%

Mariners: 33%

Yankees: 1%

I like those odds!

I would hope in a one game playoff situation and the team's SP depth that all hands are on deck for that game. Two of Ray/Berrios/Manoah/Ryu cover 8 innings plus Romano.

*waits for comments about Montoyo*

insert comment about Montoyo and AJ Cole last year

I will never forget how our pitching staff was used in that wild card game lol

Was just browsing through some old Jays teams of the past and came to the realization that Carlos Delgado's last year in Toronto was 17 years ago. That just doesn't feel right.

So when we win home field for the WC who would everyone prefer to face? The Red Sox or the Mariners?

Mariners normally, but not sure about this year with the border closed. It would be great to be playing all home games :)

What a run. They need to keep the focus vs O's.

Its been intense. After 2 got on against Mayza last night my wife walks in TV room and starts bugging me about why I ate all the brownies out of the coffee Haagen Dazs ice cream. I totally snapped on her and told her to get out....its an important part of the game. I'm groveling a tad this am. It is only Sept. 10! lol.

Have to head to TOR from Cal to take 3 guys out to game on some business vs NYY Sept 28th. Will be my first in person game in a long time. Really hope we wrap up a spot by then or at least that the game is meaningful. OTOH I do not want to be anywhere f***ing near casual fans if the game matters, and I am focused on it.

Is Mike Wilner really this stupid? His latest rant on Fangraphs Playoffs Odds really lifts the curtain on his subpar IQ.

I like the people on twitter shutting him up.

Mike, actuary and masters degree in statistics here. This is exactly how playoff odds would change with less than a month left in season and a week of winning every game while other important teams lost a lot too.

this is probably the dumbest thing i’ve ever read in regards to playoff odds etc. just a profound misunderstanding of odds shouted with a beating chest. no wonder this guy gets clowned so often

It’s almost like every game is super important and the jays have gone an an insanely unlikely streak while the teams they are chasing have sucked?

But should the odds algorithm or whatever it is not have understood that #Bluejays were just as good or better as the teams they were behind, just playing poorly, and those other teams weren’t going to be able to sustain the pace they’d set? That’s what I want from my math! (Mike)

They did! Even when we were behind Oakland and Seattle record wise, we had a better chance of making the playoffs than them. Just getting back into position to make the playoffs was going to take a once in every 5 years streak and we still have plenty of work to do! (Mike does not respond, probably went to Little Caesars for their new Bacon Cruncher pizza)

It'll be nice to get away from the wife for a bit.

After this weekend the WC standings could look a lot different Blue Jays, A's, and Seattle are all playing against pretty week opponents. The Red Sox are playing Chicago which will be tough and the Yanks are playing the Mets which who knows what will happen as they are both going to be playing desperate.

Going to be a fun weekend.
