InvincibleTiger Verified Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Ken Tremendous @KenTremendous The Blue Jays have the 3rd best run differential in the A.L. If they made the playoffs, I'd pick them to run the table. But can we consistently win one run games? Run differential is fine and dandy, but what about close games?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 At this point, if he dies, he dies. Season is almost over. Not only is the season almost over, but Merryweather only has a very finite amount of bullets a season anyway before he gets hurt. Waiting until he does well in AAA just potentially takes some of those bullets away. Call him up, let him throw 100, and hope his arm stays in tact long enough to actually help over the next 3-4 weeks.

Ray Verified Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Lourdes Gurriel Jr. since June 1st. .297/.349/.510, 130 wRC+. More impressively, he's walking at a decent enough clip: 7.4% BB%. He had a terrible April/May, but has really turned it around since.

Is it surprising though that many are doing way better with springer in the lineup. To be he not only add elite talent to the team, but i feel lots of the young players have way more confidence with him in the lineup.

Now he just needs to learn good routes to the ball in the OF and we're good.

Even as fans when I see his name in the lineup while he's hobbled, I get pumped.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Gurriel seems like one of those average / below average players who will have a 5 WAR season out of nowhere and people will think he figured it out but then he will go back to being a below average player.

But when you look at his entire season, he is the 6th best hitter after our top 5. That's the way I felt before the season and it's how I feel now. Hes been treated as a part time player at times when he's been pretty damn good since June.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 he is the 6th best hitter after our top 5. yes ser, that is how numbers work
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 yes ser, that is how numbers work He's also arguably not, if Kirk and Dickerson are both in the lineup, depending on what you think of Dickerson.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 He's also arguably not, if Kirk and Dickerson are both in the lineup, depending on what you think of Dickerson. Dickerson is a cheaper left handed version of Grichuk to me. I see him as the perfect 4th OFer for our team so I put him a level below Gurriel. Kirk I won't argue if he can get the same number of at bats. Huge fan of his.
AMS528 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 He's also arguably not, if Kirk and Dickerson are both in the lineup, depending on what you think of Dickerson. Kirk for sure. He really looks like he'll just be a consistent good hitter for years if his weight doesn't impact him negatively. Dickerson is 32 and looks like he can't hit for as much power as he used to. I think you take Gurriel there.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 He's also arguably not, if Kirk and Dickerson are both in the lineup, depending on what you think of Dickerson. Dickerson is the most valuable player on the Jays, because if he wasn't on the team, it would be Joe Panik getting those ABs (and probably ABs that other, better players wouldn't be getting too...) Edit: Somehow Joe Panik has been worse for the Marlins than he was for the Jays. -0.5 WAR and a 35 wRC+.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 F U Cole... We Got This!!!
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Dickerson is leading off? Well, that's just f***ing dumb as f***ing f***.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 F U Cole... We Got This!!! Honestly glad Springer isn’t in the lineup, he wasn’t even looking like 50% healthy the last few games. Interesting choice having Dickerson lead off and play CF, hope he does alright in this role. Nice to see Lamb instead of Valera finally
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Dickerson is leading off? Well, that's just f***ing dumb as f***ing f***. The bigger question might be wtf is Reese in there?

Springer fell on a swing, he isn't close to 100%, that's for sure. He needs a couple days off.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Dickerson is leading off? Well, that's just f***ing dumb as f***ing f***. Career .500 avg and a whopping 1.166 ops career against Gerrit Cole!!! (don’t ask what sample size)
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 The bigger question might be wtf is Reese in there? Probably because they think Jansen would get bent over by Cole
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 The bigger question might be wtf is Reese in there? He owns Cole, lol... jk/ LHB for sure. Who knows, this lineup leaves me scratching my head.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Dickerson leading off is bad enough but playing him in CF seems even worse. That guy's arm is completely shot.
