Would any team benefit more from RoboUmps than the Jays?

So sick n tired of the belt-high fastball 6 inches outside called a strike. Especially when it takes the bat out of Vlad the Impalers hands.

Love to see a jays v Yankees game with RoboUmps calling balls and strikes. Suck it yankees

Jays should consider taking on Donaldson's contract if it allows them to acquire Rogers, TBH.

I love JD. It's borderline gay TBH (not that there's anything wrong with that). Also check out his barrel rate this year... he's 7th in the majors

I was just thinking earlier today how I'd still take Donaldson back on this team in a heartbeat. Guy's still my favorite Blue Jays player of all time.

Just throw Pearson in the pen.

Teams used to have middle relief pitchers, guys who can come in and go 3 or 4 innings when the starter is pulled. Perhaps Pearson could be that guy and maybe used later in high leverage situations after demonstrating fastball command

So I wonder who gets the start on Thursday with Matz out because of COVID?

Maybe its Hatch time? Would have to piggy back him though, I don't think he's stretched out yet.

Kay? Pearson? Allgeyer? Or *shudder* Zeuch?

Also, what's up with Mr. Invisiball Joey Murray? I googled it but find any updates. Is he out for the season with an injury?

He's on the Bisons IL, no updates since.

Those were called long men - they came in after the starter got lit up. They often were marginal/s***** pitchers and sometimes they could string together 3-4 decent innings to "keep the team in it".

We don't want Pearson to be that guy.

But, more often then not, we're only getting 5 or 6 out of starters on a good day, so Pearson could be a guy who comes in and gives you 3-4 shut down innings when we have the lead. That's piggybacking. I'm all for that.

Have been advocating that for Pearson for a few years now. Not clear he has the durability to be a conventional starter. Better to use him in that "middle ground" piggyback or bulk reliever role for now.

If Pearson could have a similar role to Andrew Miller with the Indians, that would be extremely valuable to this team. Elite K capabilities and someone who can pitch 1-2 innings every other day

Starting pitching isn't even much of a problem right now really, but the bullpen is a disaster.

Waguespack is striking out a s*** ton of batters this year in AAA. K% highest its been since he was in low A. Wonder if this just a random hot streak or if he is actually better at missing bats. Id have to imagine if hes K'ing that many batters as a starter it would be worthwhile to give him a shot as a 1 inning reliever to see if he can translate that swing and miss to the big leagues.

Interesting. Any data on his velocity, pitch mix of spin-rates?

No clue haha the AAA games arent on statcast unfortunately.

I have to imagine that hes definitely doing something that he hasnt the last few years. He had a decent 90-93 fastball that could have success up in the the zone iirc but he didnt have much else so he probably either added some velo or added a wipeout breaking ball.

To put it in perspective: We need to go 57-41 the rest of the way to get 90 wins. Playoffs or not, I'll use that arbitrary barometer to mark it as a successful season. That's a big accomplishment for a team that lost nearly 100 games 2 years ago.

Our schedule has been super tough and we've kept our head above water anyways. If at the beginning of the season, people told you that we'd be 33-31 with the amount of injuries we incurred and the schedule we had, I think most would be happy with that. And that's with a +49 run differential too.

Considering we have ~50 games against bottom tier teams still left (Orioles, Tigers, Marlins, Mariners, Twins, Royals, Rangers), I don't think 57 wins is unreasonable at all. It's a good position to be in.

57 wins is easily accomplishable imo. Barring more injuries and picking up a couple of good relievers this team could be the best team in the league in the second half.

Certainly possible and with Springer, Kirk and others added to the line up when we play those weaker teams. Get on a roll and become formidable and feared by other teams.....good times coming

Imagine if the Jays did sign a cpl pitchers that were there for the taking during FA....Brad Hand and Tajuan Walker.....UGH! (yeah...hindsight)

The team has the same feel as the 2015 team to me. Great team with a great run differential and amazing offense that grabs a piece or 2 at the deadline and just explodes to a 45-17 finish or something to win the East

Thanks Brownie. I seem to recall Tabby drooling over that name. "He is a long man........big and strong"...........

You can say that again...

I wouldn't say easily. It's doable...but easily? A lot more has to go right than it has so far.

We *DO* have 18 or 19 games left to play against the Orioles
