One of them two. They might keep Davis because of his tools, I'd think, hard to say. Palacios would be better off getting regular AB's.

Also, Pearson pitched in the simulated game, but probably want to build him up for starter or bulk reliever duties.

Just watched last nights game on PVR. Great win. Couple thoughts:

 

Holy f*** Bo has the hands of a sea lion. I know some guys point out there have been SS who improved dramatically at the pos. Hands arent something that get dramatically better. Hope I'm wrong because its a big problem. Speaking of hands, Espinal has good ones.

 

When is it ok to panic about Jansen or can we live with 3/4 outs a day in the order from C? Speaking of Panik, GTFO if you cant even make routine D plays. The IF throws are a circus.

 

Nice to see the Marcus and Rowdy square up those good fastballs.

 

Lets win it again today.

My point was this; his offence sux but at least we are getting gold glove caliber defense while he struggles. I wasn't saying batting almost zero was awesome or anything.

Jansen is so bad offensively that when I am watching a game a few minutes behind live on PVR I will fast forward his at bat. There is no reason to watch an auto-out.

IF D is so bad its killing them. Matz was sailing in the 4th before the carnival. You can never know for sure the impact of those extra pitches etc on what happened in the 5th. A MLB team just can't sustain this level of defensive play and be remotely successful.

I know this doesn't work, but I would play Espinal at 3B as much as possible. I like him there defensively, a lot, and I think he has a shot to be a plus bat. But we will be sent down as soon as Teo and George are back up. Then, more Biggio! Yay!

What makes you think that? I've never heard that before, he's a bench bat 26 man at best, his defense may etch him out a career.

I don't understand why Biggio is playing injured while he's struggling immensely.. seems like a good time to sit him out and let him recover physically and mentally.

Salvador Perez is statistically one of the worst defensive catchers in the league. Since 2016 he's the fifth worst defensive catcher among those qualified.

 

Runners stealing is largely on the pitchers.

A few days ago they (The SN/Jays panel) threw up some numbers and graphics that showed he was either number one, or close to it, in terms of defensive metrics for catchers for the league. I haven't actually looked at the fWAR. Throwing runners out if super important, but so are a million other things as catcher.

 

But, in sum, Jansen's offense has to improve. He's like the auto-out on a slowpitch team that only has 9 players show. Kirk hasn't been much better, but he is starting to barrel up his contact at least. A team strength going into this season is weirdly one of the weaknesses, albeit with a SSS. But if I am triaging, I fix 3B first.

I think Semien SS, Bo 3B and Biggio 2B is the only logical position swap we can do amongst those 3. Personally I don't think any of those guys can or will play 3B.

 

3B is usually reserved for bigger players with a great arm and hands. You can help offset your shortcomings in those categories by being elite in another. Can't think of many small players like Bo who have his hands succeeding at the hot corner.

 

Semien is on a 1 year contact who is looking for a big pay day. Last thing he wants is to play a position he hasn't played much before and ruin his value in any way. Would shock me if he plays there in any full time role this season.

I think the team is committed to letting Bo figure it out at SS. Semien is probably gone next year...Martin plays 3rd next year with Biggio back at 2nd. I'm sure there's a handshake agreement to leave Semien at 2nd this year - but I'd rather see him at 3rd with Biggio back at his natural position.
