This is pretty cringe worthy man. If hitting the ball to all field effectively and bunting for base hits against the shift were even remotely easy to do - then the shift wouldn't exist.

I wasn't saying every hitter should be able to do it. I understand power hitters not being able to bunt the ball or even wanting to do it but a hitter like Biggio has a different swing/skillset. I assume with his great eye/bat control that bunting the ball down the 3rd baseline is something he can do at minimum.

Heck, the Rays use 4 OFers on him man. I just thought letting teams know he will take a free single would open the field up for him even more.

A few things wrong here.

Biggio absolutely plays like a power hitter. He's a flyball heavy hitter, strikes out frequently, pulls the ball often, and walks a lot. Just because he runs well compared to most power hitters doesn't mean he has a slap hitter's skillset.

Biggio doesn't have great bat control, he has a great strike zone discipline which doesn't mean the same thing. He takes A LOT of pitches and is very selective at what he swings at, and as a result his contact rates are roughly league average and because he doesn't swing at balls he doesn't swing and miss too much. If Biggio were to swing more it's not a given he would have the same contact results, he likely would start swinging through pitches more, for better or worse. If he had great bat control he would 1) make contact a lot more often 2) strike out less.

Bunting is a lot harder than it seems. Biggio will probably start laying one down every now and then if teams like Tampa continue playing 4 OF alignments against him, but can he bunt successfully consistently enough to outweigh the given opportunity of taking a walk, getting a single or getting an XBH? Not a simple question to answer! Especially because we don't know if he's actually a capable bunter or not.

I was speaking more to your last paragraph where I'd want him to start bunting against all teams that play 4 OFers or a super shift on him. I consider bunting when you have a whole left side open to be very doable as a lefty.

Lets not pretend like Biggio is .300 hitter at the moment so I thought this was an easy/doable suggestion to make defense play straight up and then he can pull the ball with more success. I currently think he'll bat 9th and be relied upon in a different role this season. Just my 2 cents.

If he doesn't lead off, he should bat 6th. Period. Just my 50 cents!

Our lineup is so stacked that I thought he would be great to bat before Springer and Bo. Players 3 through 7 could be swapped depending on how they look in spring training because we dont know how good Tellez/Vlad/Teo will be. Biggio and Tellez are our only lefties so its only right we split them up. We'll find out soon enough.

Springer

Bo

Semien

Vlad

Teo

Gurriel

Tellez

Jansen

Biggio

Lets get everyone vaccinated and life back to normal man.

I am not sure that is going to happen anytime soon :(

After hearing the Raptors news about having to finish the entire season in Tampa, I have very little faith the Jays will be home until the allstar break at the earliest.

Last I saw, the vaccine is moving so slow in Canada.

Very slow, but the Premier is prioritizing Toronto at the expense of lives in the rest of the province so that bodes well for baseball at least.

so are we going to sign paxton tonight!

Lets!!

Everytime I get a score mobile notification, I'm hoping it's for this exact news. I believe this will be the final touch for an amazing offseason.

I've convince myself Paxton is the guy we want because we haven't signed anyone and Boras has to wait until the last possible minute for his guys to sign. There's a 5 day quarantine period. It's time for guys to sign. Our report day is 6 days away!

On a one year deal it certainly fits for Toronto, and they must have made an offer. Paxton is probably holding out for a pitcher friendly situation to get his next contract.

Hopefully there is a strong broadcast schedule and not that pitiful 2020 shedule.

I think YES might broadcast every Yankees game. With fewer opponents this spring a good portion might be watchable.

With the variants and the slow roll out of vaccines don't be surprised if 2022 is not much better
