Would love to have Rosenthal.

There's a good chance 2019 was just a really bad off-year for him.

Plus he's 30 years old.

2019 was his return from TJS and was 15.1 innings. Disregard it.

oh thats cool so he is still with us??

Yup... glad he slipped through...

To call Castro a late bloomer would be an understatement. The Tigers signed him out of Venezuela as an amateur in 2011, but after two years in the Venezuelan Summer League, a season lost to Tommy John surgery and a repeat of the Gulf Coast League, he didn’t make his full-season debut until 2017 as a 22-year-old at West Michigan. He has looked better at each stop since then, including a standout 2019 campaign as a starter and reliever in Erie, where he had some of the best power pitching on a staff that included top prospects Casey Mize and Matt Manning. A strong Arizona Fall League stint caught scouts’ attention, leading the Tigers to not only re-sign him but add him to their 40-man roster. But after making his big league debut out of the Tigers’ bullpen in 2020, Castro was claimed off waivers in December by Toronto.

The intrigue around Castro centers around a fastball that sits at 93-95 but works up to 97 mph with cutting action. His slider was a quality chase pitch for him against Double-A hitters, while his changeup has shown enough improvement to throw in different counts. The combination has enough movement that hitters struggle to square him up, evidenced by a low home run rate. However, it also costs him in command, coupling a 10.2 K/9 rate with 5.7 BB/9 in 2019.

Though most scouts view Castro’s best fit as a reliever, he actually has been much stronger in a starting role, where he’s better able to repeat his upright delivery. After claiming him off waivers, the Blue Jays may explore developing Castro as a starter, knowing that he could always fill a long-relief role if that doesn’t work out.

Rosenthal is a f***ing beast. He'd be a huge add - but I suspect he's looking for somewhere he can close...

Shapiro is on Overdrive. They asked him about the rotation not being good enough and what the plan is for that. He talked about improvement over multiple seasons and not just one. Basically, he was saying you can't go too big too soon or you'll make mistakes and lose flexibility... Which makes sense. But that also leads us to believe that we probably shouldn't expect much more with the rotation this offseason.

Was just reading an article on the Angels at the Athletic, and this blurb really made me smile, feels good man...

The deal for Simmons was made shortly after the Toronto Blue Jays blew the Twins and everyone else bidding for the services of infielder Marcus Semien out of the water. Semien agreed to a one-year deal with Toronto worth $18 million, a contract that was well above his estimated $14 million payday. As of Monday, the Twins believed they were in strong contention for Semien only for Toronto to drop its whopper of a deal.

Baseball commentary is so frustrating. In what world is $4M extra (or whatever) "blowing everybody out of the water"???

It is nice to see the Jays act like a big market team.

It would great to swoop in on Bauer. No one seems willing to pay for him. The Mets seem most likely but Cohen just lost a couple billion dollars and has to raise as much cash as possible to fight off a bunch of kids on Reddit so maybe we could swoop in and snag Bauer.

Well...I guess if you look at it from a % standpoint, $18m is 28-29% more than the $14m offer.

It would only make sense if that 4 million was on a long term contract but for 1 year it's laughable lol.

I know. I'm just saying that's the only way you can look at it being a significantly larger offer. % wise.

What type of contract would people here be comfortable giving Bauer and one that they think he would accept?

He doesn't have a long enough track record to warrant a long extension at huge dollars but is good enough for a short contract at a huge number. You'd hate to lock yourself down to someone who might not end up being elite as his contract says he is and ruin possible future moves.

The Mets are having a f***ing weird offseason, man. Dick picks and hedge fund explosions...

I was thinking 2 years....would go 30 31 AAV if competition dictated it. It feels like it's the Dodgers and Mets and everyone's looking for a discount. I'd be curious where the offers are at.

2 years $80M

3 years $105M

4 years $120M

Bauer would be the final needed piece the Jays are missing.

BTW Cohen just deleted his twitter acct over that GME stunt
