G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 This is pretty hilarious starting at the 20 second mark:
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Well, nobody has ever accused Donaldson of being classy. I mean - hitters feel like they've been cheated over the past 3-4 years, but given all the sign stealing that was happening at the same time - perhaps they should all STFU.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Are you assuming he's guilty? What's your point here? Sounds like he gave her exactly what she wanted and now she's trying to get rich quick. I don't care whether he's innocent or guilty. The fact is he's a moron. Engaging in this type of encounter with a casual fling is stupid. I hear all the time how people claim Bauer is such an intelligent guy. The fact that he's now just realizing he's part of a get rich quick scam if he is innocent. It doesn't take Inspector Clouseau to figure out this mystery.

They are tied for the MLB lead in fWAR now with 4.7 each This may be a fascinating race to watch. Vlad chasing the triple crown, Ohtani doing something we've literally never seen before. I'd hate to see Vlad get robbed of MVP, but this storyline is too good for baseball for it not to happen (assuming they both keep it up). It reminds me a bit of when Miggy one the triple crown but Trout was the superior player.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 I listened to that like 12 times in a row. Incredible. Trout, Ohtani, Rendon - the Angels need to get in the playoffs regularly. Baseball fans deserve that.

Baseball fans deserve that. The Angels aren't making the playoffs this year. They have 2 years of control left with Ohtani after this. They are a club that spends to the luxury tax, but have only been over once and it was just a few hundred K over. In Ohtani's free agent year they have a 32 year old Mike trout making 37, a 34 year old Rendon making 38.5(3 years to go on that contract) and Fletcher making 6 mil. That's 81 mil for 3 players. If they sign Ohtani for 40 they have 121 mil, plus arb players and they still have to find a way to build a pitching staff. Ohtani is being wasted on the Angels. They should trade him while they can and do a much needed rebuild around trout and their other young players. They will not trade him and gamble on the next 2 years, but I don't necessarily see them as the favorites to sign Ohtani when he's a free agent in 2.5 years.

We've seen triple crown winners before and we've seen hitters dominate like Vlad. Nobody alive has ever seen someone do what Ohtani is doing. Ohtani has a chance to do this: .270/.360 50+ HR 100+ RBI 100+ R 20+ SB 7+ fWAR on offense 25+ GS 130+ IP ERA under 3.00 FIP under 3.50 K% over 30% 3+ fWAR as a SP

If Jays go to the playoffs and Angels don’t, assuming Vlad wins Triple Crown-I think he gets it. Or it’s really tight

He's amazing.

Exactly Which they couldn't do even when they had some money to play with They should have singed any among Tanaka, Ryu, Bauer, Kluber, Gausman etc over the last few years Cause they didn't have a good enough farm to trade for Darvish, Snell, Taillon, Musgrove etc
AMS528 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 I know everything he's doing is absurd, but it becomes laughable when you also consider his speed as well. The fact that he's going to do all the hitting and pitching, but that he could steal over 20 bases as well is beyond comprehension. He's one of the ten fastest guys in the game as well. You literally would not be able to recreate his skills in MLB the Show. Defies belief.

Yeah there are "video game numbers" and then there is "we would have to recode the f***ing video game to even allow you to create a player than can do this numbers".
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Giolito calls Donaldson move 'classless' - White Sox pitcher angered by Twins slugger's 'sticky' reference after HR https://www.mlb.com/news/lucas-giolito-upset-with-josh-donaldson ...the White Sox right-hander was not thrilled with Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson, who connected for a two-run homer on Giolito’s fifth pitch of the game. As Donaldson crossed home plate, he rubbed his hands together and said, “Hey, it’s not sticky anymore! It’s not sticky anymore!” as picked up by the television microphone on the Twins' broadcast and in reference to Major League Baseball’s crackdown on pitchers no longer using sticky substances. “He's a [expletive] pest. That's kind of a classless move,” Giolito said during his postgame Zoom. I was watching this last night on MLBN, was pretty funny, to be honest.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 That's one of the best sounds I ever heard for a HR.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Yeah if Ohtani keeps this up, then he'll win MVP easily regardless of how WAR shakes out, and honestly, I'd be fine with that. The modern day Babe Ruth winning the MVP is perfectly reasonable. Going to be interesting to see what happens with two way players in the future. Ohtani's success might open the flood gates in terms of prospects wanting to become two way players, if it hasn't already.

What Ohtani is doing is once in a lifetime stuff.
