Laika Community Moderator Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 So great to see Eloy actually return this year AND put up numbers right away. When he first got hurt I think the news was that he would probably miss the whole season.

White Sox will be dangerous.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Mariners blow a no out, bases-loaded opportunity to walk off the Rangers, then end up losing 5-4 in 10.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 This is f***ing mesmerizing. I can't believe how cool this is.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Lewis Brinson OPS is up to .800 Another tease? Or is this guy turning it around 4% BB and 29% K. He sucks.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 4% BB and 29% K. He sucks. Looked deeper, probably a mirage. Doesn't look like a Teoscar improvement.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 You guys hear that A-Rod almost signed with the Red Sox to play with Manny, Ortiz, Pedro, etc.? Apparently he was taking a bit of a discount to play with them and everyone had signed the contract (Henry, Arod, etc.) except for Donald Fehr (Prez of the Players Association) who refused to sign it and talked A-Rod out of it because it looked bad for everyone else if A-Rod took a discount. I had no idea the President of the Players Association had to sign off on FA contracts or that he had this type of power. That's f***ing insane IMO.

I can see contracts having to be screened by the player's association for compliance with the agreement, but not an executor of the contract. Fehr probably just intervened and convinced A-Rod not to sign.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 It’s the same in mlb with buyouts. They don’t want anyone messing around with the guaranteed contracts. It’s different than the NBA or NFL but always been that way
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 The Tigers have nearly caught LA and Cleveland in the WC standings. They might even end up in second place in the Central. They seem like a right pain in the ass.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 The Orioles must be thrilled! They can put that money towards not improving their team in any way.

Best part is he's still getting paid his remaining salary! Read the MLBTR post on it, I didn't realize he got the Bobby Bonilla-lite deal. Getting paid till 2037 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/08/chris-davis-announces-retirement-orioles.html

Nice little perk.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 They reworked the deal that way in agreement on his last year 23 Million owed. Nice little perk. It sounds like the original deal had the deferrals in it to be being with. Deferred 6M a year from the start. Crazy. They've rewritten that section since I first read it and added a bit more detail on his 2022 salary however, that the $17MM owed to Davis in 2022 will now be deferred and paid out in three installments from 2023-25.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Deferrals are only good for the player if you're s***** with money.
