BTS Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 What other active staring pitchers are likely to get in? Verlander Kershaw Scherzer? Bumgarner? I would have said Felix Hernandez was on track easily once upon a time but damn his second half of his career has been awful and there's no way now I think you can add Scherzer to that top group with Verlander and Kershaw. He should be a lock. Greinke has a very good chance too. After that, Cole might be on track if he stays healthy. Bum might be out if he’s actually cooked. Numbers aren’t quite there, and he has a prickly personality

Clemens is the last one. Degrom could win a couple more cy's and you'd have a 4 time cy young winner! Talent vs counting stats...does Degrom make it?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Dodgers outfielder Andrew Toles has been battling mental health issues that have kept him from playing professionally since 2018, but the club still renewed his contract for this season, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Toles is on the restricted list, meaning he won’t collect his salary, but the team’s decision could enable him to maintain healthcare access, Plunkett notes. Corporate responsibility at its best.

Dude is such a sad story, really hope he can get the help he needs and recover somewhat, even if he never plays again.

Hes just a content creator whos not doing anything groundbreaking in terms of research and development. And he probably makes more doing youtube than he would working for a team.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 I was literally just about to post this. There's nothing like Spring Training baseball. Hicks had to be removed after this, this was his only hitter.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Nah... he was a boss. I totally agree. The question is what is the 'voter's criteria'. Halladay, Schilling, Grienke are all similar. 200ish win guys with several Cy Young caliber seasons. I think advanced metrics would have all three in the same ballpark. But... Schilling doesn't get in because of politics or because his career looks weird ? Great seasons surrounded by injuries. Does Greinke get in if he retires today? No 20 win seasons but otherwise similar to Halladay. Will the criteria become... 1. 200+ wins 2. Silly accomplishments like '20' wins 3. Good behavior hmmm.. 20 wins might become rare too if current trends continue... I still want to see the first Cy Young Vulture... numbers look something like this g 54 gs 11 inning 167 * era 1.09 w/l - 23-2 (167 innings because they nice enough to get him qualified for ERA title)
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 I'm watching Yajure pitch, this guy's got some filthy stuff. Yikes!
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Strasburg left yesterday's game with a calf strain, he's so good, but made of glass.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Just saw an Ohtani HR highlight from today.... the guy should not be pitching. If all he had to worry about was hitting and defense, he's probably something like Cody Bellinger right? Maybe less D but still. He's a potential 50 HR bat who could probably be a decent RF with the best OF arm in baseball. And he can run.

He's a 5-tool OF who probably provides 4-5 WAR and possibly more if left to play RF every day. Edit: Just saw his two oppo bombs today. Dude has insane power.

His 2nd home run today was a next level oppo bomb that almost nobody else can do. Only the most powerful sluggers can do that. just a glorious moon shot
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 They should let Ohtani play OF everyday and then come in to close. That way you get his bat as much as possible and he doesnt have to focus as much on pitching. Just come in for 3 outs throw gas, mix in some sliders and splits and call it a day.

It was the Giants' Brandon Belt at 21 pitches in 2018 so I guess spring training doesn't count lol.

I would argue his ability to dig up and organize possibly obscure info would be a great asset to a major league team. As to your second point, I dunno, he's got less than 200K subs. I guess it depends on the type of hypothetical position he's offered.

LeBron already owns a part of Liverpool FC which is owned by FSG, so I think this is just formalizing that arrangement.
