connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 If the Mets wouldn't go an extra 25M for their #1 target Springer because of luxury tax concerns how/why would they do it for Bauer? I don't believe that story Surprising not to see the Jays listed lol.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Sid is going to Breakfast TV? I thought that was off the air years ago lol. I don't think that's his audience. Strange move.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Marlins signed Bass? Smells fishy. Damn it. Our low level thug, Tony Bass, will be breaking kneecaps for someone else.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Marlins signed Bass? Smells fishy. Trade 4 Trout and it's complete
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Trade 4 Trout and it's complete Not until Tim Salmon comes out of retirement...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Cubs sign Austin Romine 1 year deal
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Author Posted January 22, 2021 Cronenworth, Profar, and Kim at 2B now. I don't see where they all get playing time.

I don't believe that story I REALLY REALLY hope the Angels sign Bauer. Need to see Trout in the playoffs again before he retires/declines like come on.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Cronenworth, Profar, and Kim at 2B now. I don't see where they all get playing time. It could work out if there ends up being a DH in the NL. Profar is probably the 4th OF right now, and could get a lot of reps if Myers spends a lot of time DHing. If that's the case you have Cronenworth getting the bulk of the starts at 2B, and Kim playing all around as a super-sub type. Pretty enviable depth.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Author Posted January 22, 2021 Padres must be top 5 in payroll. Commendable effort. MLBTR says 177 million now
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 MLBTR says 177 million now With a great MLB roster and a great farm still very much intact Well done

I thought they said no for the DH in 2021. It'd be weird if this decision wasn't firmed up yet. ST is like 4 weeks away.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 With a great MLB roster and a great farm still very much intact Well done It is kind of amazing. I am not sure I remember a FO/team that has done that; kept an amazing farm intact but built a really exciting winner via savvy trades and FA signings. IIRC, the Yankees at one time had both...early 90s?

They're treating it as a major concession to the PA.

We're making the signings the Red Sox used to while they're doing what I'd expect our team to do. Your Mookie Betts replacement ladies and gentlemen lol

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 This signing closely resembles that of Maicer Izturis. He is 3 years younger than Macier at that point of signing. I think it's right about proper value for a guy that shouldn't regress defensively or with his legs. Red Sox are in a position to throw him out at 2B most every day and get value out of the guy that probably has been one of the best 2B's defensively over the past couple years. It wouldn't surprise me if they are able to trade him for $10M in value in 2022

He's been consistently awful at 2B and ranks 29th out of 35 second basemen that have played 1000 innings since 2018 (-6.1 UZR/150). Maybe he won't regress on the basepaths, but he's decidedly average in that regard to begin with. I think I'd rather have a guy like Santiago Espinal, who is a better defender and baserunner. It's not like Hernandez has even an average bat to make up for it.

jerb Verified Member Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 Mark Feinsand @Feinsand Sources tell me and @adamdberry there are indications that Jameson Taillon will be the next Pirates player to be traded -- possibly in the next day or two. The Pirates have already dealt Joe Musgrove this offseason, so it would not be a surprise if Taillon is moved, too.
