Ya but it wouldn't be a shocker to see other teams join the sweepstakes after seeing the best offer currently out there.

Who? No one was with the Mets and Jays at that money, show me who?

The reported difference between the Mets and Jays (if true) means there was a massive gap between the two. It's not unlikely a team like the Yankees, Dodgers, Angels join a race for one of the big 4 thinking they could be had for cheaper than expected.

Lets see how things unfold because this is speculation at this stage. The results will speak for themselves.

Oh, so you know what each front office has to spend? Ever think of going pro ala ESPN or something?

Well then... you tell me baldilocks! Who needs a CF'er with cash?

Teams posture. You don’t know someone like Boston is out of it at a reasonable price. If Springer doesn’t get what he hoped, maybe he settles back with Astros who offered something like 5/120 and he laughed at them... you don’t know. Not every team is a cock tease like the Jays

Sugano has re-signed with Yomiuri on a four-year, $40MM contract, per Rosenthal. The deal includes three opt-out chances

Makes sense I guess. Prob wanted at least $20m more in the states to make the life transplant worth it

That's an insane contract for Japan, based on my googling. I think Sugano was already the highest paid player at around $6M...

I'm very curious as to what contract Bauer gets. There is such a gap between him and the next best pitcher on the market. You'd think that would lead into a slight overpayment for anyone looking for an ace.

What ever happened to Bauer wanting 1 year deals? Give him 1 yr $45M.

I guess we really want to lock him in for at least the next 3-4 years. I kind of expect him to sign a really complicated deal with a ton of opt-outs.

I'm reading a lot of things in the news like the Mets being out on Springer and the Dodgers being out on Hendricks. Time will tell if our patient approach results in players falling into our laps at reasonable prices.

Think he came to his senses quick because all it takes is one big injury and all that money goes away. He should be favoring opt outs instead.

You realize, as mentioned previously by various posters. IF the patient approach causes prices to come down, the competition then increases with the pool we are swimming in expanding. The fact we will probably have to start the season in Buffalo and the whole cross border thing will be a consideration if anywhere close to even. Which probably doesn't mean any bargains for us..

It's really hard to say what will happen with the market.

I get what you are saying, but will a team like the Astros, Cardinals, red sox, or Phillies step up and compete with us for Springer? We don't know if any of these teams are willing or able to put together a 9 figure offer. That's the gamble that our FO seems to be taking. It's certainly a unique offseason where certain teams just can't spend, period.

Why would they go back to Buffalo? Just stay at the spring training site.

To be fair, you get heavy odds for picking the Jays won't be able to get said player. Sugano just showed what happens when the Jays are the leading candidate to sign you They will refuse to get off their number. Now let's sign Springer to shut me up lol.

I am not talking odds. There is 0% chance the Jays get him. Not 5%, not 7%. 0%.

BTW, I am really wanting the Jays to sign him. But tempting the odds gods is the only way we do this. Thus, my militant post. #triggered

I think that little train headed up that steep hill was saying," I think I can, I think I can!" not "f*** it, that hill looks like a bitch, I'll never get to the top!"

If you're so confident Springer isn't going to come to the Jays, where is he going to land?
