glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Looks like the Jays are serious.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Time to get excited!!! Or disappointed. I'm feeling shades of the Darvish posting here.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Or disappointed. I'm feeling shades of the Darvish posting here. Bit less at stake. Not a fan of this. Didi is better option for IF at 2/16 or whatever
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Or disappointed. I'm feeling shades of the Darvish posting here. I don't even remember if there were legitimate Jays - Darvish rumours. I remember the whole Kevin Gray press conference thing
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 If we sign Kim, that obviously takes us out of the running for guys like LeMahieu, Lindor, and Arenado. Springer becomes a much more obvious target in that case and we would certainly remain interested in more pitching. Something like Kim, Springer, and Sugano or Tanaka would be incredible.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I don't even remember if there were legitimate Jays - Darvish rumours. I remember the whole Kevin Gray press conference thing NY Post said the jays had won the bid for Darvish.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 NY Post said the jays had won the bid for Darvish. From a Paul Gray... scoop, lol.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Flurry of tweets regarding Ha-Seong Kim. Seems like an announcement may be imminent:
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Going to merge some Kim stuff into its own thread. Posting deadline is January 1st. We know Toronto has offered him a deal, reportedly for five or more years. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/report-blue-jays-make-offer-free-agent-shortstop-ha-seong-kim/ Other teams rumoured in are Mets, Rangers, Padres... maybe a couple more I can't remember. Red Sox and Cardinals I think?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Buster says the Padres are making a "serious run" at Kim. We've seen Preller do things in a flurry before so it would kind of make sense right now.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Obviously I dont know much about him, but id be kinda disappointed if Kim is the reason the Jays are out on Lindor. Kind of set myself up with the Lindor rumours lol
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 International Flights are coming in and out of Canada every hour, I dont like the fact that he is flying to the States. But having said that, he could be going to Dunedin.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 He'd have to quarantine up here. They'd do the physical in the States, I'm sure.
Bturn2210 Verified Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 ya I'm sure he would be flying to Atlanta and then connecting on a flight to Tampa
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Some of this stuff is so ridiculous.. I remember when Kawhi went to Home Depot and got a bunch of moving boxes.. The Toronto Twitter sphere thought it was a great thing.. Same when he went to the Blue Jays vs. Angles game.. Los Angeles Angels... Same when someone tracked a MLE private jet that went to San Diego, thinking the Raptors were flying him home to get stuff before he came back to TO. You are better served to fly into a west coast hub from Korea, shorter flights. West coast is closer to Korea flight time and more Korean's, bigger Korean community. He could have been asking Ryu how he liked Southern California at dinner.. All is total speculation at this point.... If he is that good, there will be other savvy and deep pocket teams in the bidding...
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Obviously I dont know much about him, but id be kinda disappointed if Kim is the reason the Jays are out on Lindor. Kind of set myself up with the Lindor rumours lol Lindor is awesome, but I want nothing to do with a rental. And I am 99% sure he won't sign an extension now. To lose 2-3 great prospects for one year of Lindor just doesn't do it for me.

Key22 Verified Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Kim makes more sense than Lindor in that we have to give up a ton to get Lindor both in assets and in money. I think the Jays would rather just give up money and look at the trade market only if they can't upgrade with money. Kim looks good on paper. Seems to have multiple tools - speedy, good defense, can steal, has some pop, in his prime. Jays can always try and sign Lindor next year where all it costs us is money and not talent & money. Kim's $$$ won't stop us from landing anyone else. I'm older school - I really like have terrific two way up the middle players - I want offense and defense coming from C, SS, 2B and CF. The corners any idiot can play - dime a dozen pick-ups all day at LF. RF, 3B, 1B. Just give me big bats and not atrocious defenders. Springer, Realmuto, Kim and Bichette. Sign the damn cheques Rogers! Sign Walker and trade for an ace. Bing Badda Boom punch a WS ticket.

We were all monitoring it minute by minute and I think probably the highest traffic the board had ever had that night... We all got severely Blue Balled! Come to find out years later, I don't even think AA made an offer..

Ruthless
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Conflicting messages now. Joel Sherman is the one reporter saying the Padres are "in the lead". He is saying the deal will have an AAV of $7-8M and be 4-5 years, but only guarantee an amount in the high $20M's, which seems silly and is non-specific enough for me to think that he is being fed BS and doesn't have a clue. Other reporters (Korean) are saying Kim is coming for a physical but it's not with a specific team. I don't get the fit with the Padres. Kim has only started one game at 2B in his KBO career. Are they throwing Cronenworth into the outfield? Seems odd.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Daniel Kim who reported the Ryu news says that he thinks the Jays are the frontrunners and that Kim may be on a flight to Toronto.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Daniel Kim who reported the Ryu news says that he thinks the Jays are the frontrunners and that Kim may be on a flight to Toronto. They were talking about Kim on MLB radio this morning. It's typical in these situation for the player to fly in get medical done by MLB approved doctors with the information being shared with relevant teams prior to the finalizing of a deal. The fact that he isn't flying to Toronto doesn't diminish the chances of Toronto signing him IMO. The reality is the dollars are probably similar amongst the teams. He will go to the team he wants. The only issue with the Jays could be their unwillingness to guarantee he won't be sent to the minors.

Me too I'm at the point I'd rather sign Didi or Kim or Turner and trade for a starter like Darvish or Gray The asking price for Lindor is obviously too high or a trade would have happened already.
