Thaddeus Malice Verified Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Way off base, mate. I get the theory, but not for a guy like Bauer. I've never heard anything of note in a clubhouse. Dude just where's his heart on his sleeve, including the trolling and his massive platform that continues to grow. He apologized promptly to skip, and likely paid a hefty fine in kangaroo court, I can't remember anything else from him on the field? Except for early in his career, I don't think there's been much else on the field. I'd like to see him signed, but I'm never gonna be a fan of a dumbass like him. Anyone who believes in birther theories is a complete moron. But if the moron can get the Jays further in the playoffs, I'm not gonna complain much.

metafour Verified Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 July 29, 2019 man. He got frustrated and hurled the ball where absolutely zero fans are sitting. If thats your example of "on field problems", then I'm not sure what to tell you. Yes it was incredibly childish to lose his emotions like that, but imagine using that as your logic for not signing one of the best pitchers in the game...
metafour Verified Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Perhaps, and to be clear, I'd love to have Bauer on the Jays. I just wonder if the FO see him as a fit personality wise. Dan Shulman raised some issues in an interview here: https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/video/shulman-thinks-blue-jays-real-long-shots-sign-bauer/ Shulman didn't raise anything past pure conjecture. "He's a strong personality and I'm not sure thats what they want to bring into the clubhouse". As far as I can tell Bauer's "personality" has never had any clubhouse implications. There's a guy currently in the clubhouse (Grichuk) who has gotten into open spats with former players (Stroman) and opposing players (Anderson). They also brought in Ken Giles and his "personality". It would seem to me that one of the most analytically driven teams in the league (the Blue Jays) would be naturally interested in THE most analytical pitcher in the league. Maybe they actually don't like his "personality", but nothing Schulman said is backed by anything more than typical baseball media/analyst jargon. Trevor Bauer is not Marcus Stroman. The difference between those two is that Stroman seems like the type that leverages the fanbase against their own team's front office which absolutely no team likes, on top of being insufferable to deal with in the clubhouse with his "look at me" bravado. Trolling idiots on Twitter is not the same thing.

I was just pointing out he had an on-field 'incident' recently. I don't think Tito liked it very much and he never stepped foot on the diamond in an Indians jersey again. Just stating facts man.
Ray Verified Member Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 How much would Kris Bryant potentially cost? I like the idea of getting him as a stopgap at 3B for a year while Martin/Groshans develop, and his power should play really well in the AL East. Should be significantly cheaper than Lindor I would think.

If we're ponying up the prospects it takes to get them, we need to sign them to an extension. Bryant has obviously had a ton of success and these numbers certainly aren't everything, but I just noticed his EV and hard hit % have always been pretty s*****. Barrel % was very high, but has been decreasing every year since 2015.

Dokken Verified Member Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 This feels like a good weekend to go out and sign Trevor Rosenthal. Atkins, go get it done! 2 yr, $16 M for Rosenthal (maybe if the 2nd year is an option that vests with 50 ip in 2021 or 2 M buyout)?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 2 yr, $16 M for Rosenthal (maybe if the 2nd year is an option that vests with 50 ip in 2021 or 2 M buyout)? mlb trade rumors had him at 2 and 14 so 2 and 16 sounds fine. I'd even give him a 3rd year vesting option. It's easy for me to spend Rogers money though!
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Blue Jays GM hopes to add 'another really good player ... or 3' https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2052706 Shatkins seem to be talking a big game this offseason. Since they're putting Robby Ray into the category by saying "another really good player," id be pissed if that's the level of players we get this offseason. If theyre actually talking about legit "really good players," can you imagine if we ended the offseason with Bauer/Lindor/Springer. Would that be the greatest offseason of all time?

I guess it does depend on what their definition of a "really good player" is. I'm guessing they're putting Robby Ray into that category by saying "another really good player." If not then can you imagine if we ended the offseason with Bauer/Lindor/Springer. Would that be the greatest offseason of all time? He put that into context like what they did with Ryu last season. It's good. Also, settle down, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 how do you guys think Kim Ha-Seong will project in the MLB? Also, his projections aren't that good with the bat, and he's only 25, he could end up being a steal... so hard to say. It took a bit, but LGJ worked... I wouldn't be upset, lol.

Loll saying one, two or 3 really good players is hard to not get excited about. They should stop talking unless they're really confident about their chances to make it happen. It feels very unlike them, which is why I'm letting myself get excited lol.

If you check the vegas odds on the major free agents, seems like the Jays are in the top 3 for Springer, Kim, Tanaka, LeMahieu. I have no idea if Kim is good enough to push Bo off SS but that would be a solid offseason. https://www.oddsshark.com/mlb/free-agent-odds-and-predictions

Don't post odds bro, once a guy is selected the odds go up, and down for the team acquiring said asset. You on petes or something? I kid/

What was done with Dickey was smart, get a 24-48 hour window to negotiate an extension, and make the trade. Of course, don't do this for another Dickey (ugh).

You could make arguments for Ozuna and Turner to be close to that level. There really aren't a lot of options. I would be happy to get any one those 7. They could be looking at the trade market for that one guy though.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 After the recent vaccine news, given the limited options I'd be content if the Jays extended some of the core long term and saved FA bullets for next year's crop.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 After the recent vaccine news, given the limited options I'd be content if the Jays extended some of the core long term and saved FA bullets for next year's crop. I don't agree with this, a bird (Blue Jay) in the hand is better then two in the bush. The Jays are in a unique position to take advantage of a relatively low cost market compared to pre-COVID times. With another company announcing a 96% plus effective vaccine today, the chances are higher that the 2022 season will be a normal season with fans etc. This will allow teams in apprehensive financial positions now, to commit, which means more competition, players more willing to wait it out/hold out. We are unique in this FA because we have a lot of money off books and not much $$$ commitment. Our ownership is willing to spend even with COVID situation, depreciated market... Seize while the iron is hot. We do not historically do well on an even playing field in the FA market.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Buster Olney of ESPN reports that four teams are showing early interest in free agent right-hander Jake Odorizzi. Those four clubs: The Blue Jays, the Giants, the Mets and the Twins. The 30-year-old hits free agency after being able to make just four starts this summer with a chest injury along with a blister, and he wasn't particularly effective in them as seen in his 6.59 ERA. He was solid in 2019, however, with a 3.59 ERA and 178/53 K/BB ratio in 159 frames over 30 starts. With teams likely not spending big money on free agents this season, Odorizzi may have to settle for a shorter deal before hitting the market again in 2021 or 2022.
