Id also add, if Vlad hasn't hit the wall so much for singles, just a minute change in launch angle he would have like 7 more HRs than he does. He has been good for a 21 year old who is trying to change launch angle during the season, while learning a new position and being pitched very carefully compared to others

One thing I noticed last season is Vlad continually got screwed on a lot of close ball/strike calls (almost all of them went against him), and I am not sure if that was because of all the hype and the umps collectively wanting to 'make him prove it'. But I think it got him off his game and he has yet to get back on track fully.

Yep, it will come. Still on pace for 20+ homers in 162 games. This last like 4-30 stretch came when they lowered his hands. Last 3 games it has changed back and he has looked better. I still think he overswings at times causing the groundballs

Terrific debut by Captain Kirk.

Our kids can play!

This guy is a no-brainer to be a big (no pun intended) fan favorite. He's like a fatter version of Altuve. You gotta love baseball, for guys like this being able to excel at the highest level !

Both guys are young enough to change their bodies in a single off-season if they commit to it. Kirk has way to much potential with the bat to let that bad body limit his potential. He can’t be 5’9 265.. atleast get in the 230-235 range.

Yes, except I think 5'9" is a bit of a 'stretch'. More like 5'7". He could be the one that could do it at a higher weight, but I agree better to lose as least some of that excess to improve his chances of long-term success!

Hopefully we see today's version of Robbie Ray again this season, that would be a huge add considering how terrible Roark and Anderson have been lately. I was super impressed with Kirk in his debut, he called a great game behind the plate, looked very comfortable and fluid defensively and the bat looked legit as well.

Still seems fatness and obesity lead to 60% ground ball rate.

Kirk seemed to have the "good" Vladdy night, when the grounder sneaks through, 3 grounders, maybe one of them you could say was a line drive, I don't know. Not a real line drive. Pretty much a Vladdy night grounding out (once at 107) and sneaking one through.

I guess he did hit a 420 foot foul fly ball... but I've seen Vladdy do that too. Even against Chapman once.

Rooting for them, but don't believe in the fat boys yet.

I would say until they hit 25-30 HR with an .800+ OPS over a full season (multiple times), they haven't fully arrived!

ETA: I guess that could go for any prospect.....

I missed this game, and didn't catch Jays in 30. How'd Bichette look, is he back on that horse?

Looked solid in the field, seemed a bit over eager at the plate (understandable after a layoff that long). Didn't make great contact, and swung at pitches well out of the zone a few times. Still wound up with a hit, so good.

Also, ran the bases really, really well which is the most encouraging thing for his injury recovery. Edit: Scored (kinda) standing up really easily from first on a double.

If Kirk hits like Vladdy right away it will be a resounding success. A 105 wRC+ from an out-of-nowhere catching prospect that young who just skipped AA and AAA would be swell.

Completely different scales for offensive success.

Being said, I expect Kirk to be a well above average hitter.

Anyway, aside from Vladdy most of the GB% leaders are small/fast guys so I don't think there's anything to fat correlating with groundballs.

Wouldn't know that by reading the board lol
